    Healthy Paws Quail Raw Food?

Quail is a great addition to a food rotation. I am a strong supporter of having a variety of proteins in cats' diets. I feed our three cats chicken, turkey, duck, quail, pork, and rabbit. (Beef too, currently, but one of them is intolerant so I'll be phasing that out.)

    Alnutrin Vs. Ezcomplete

I researched and found several recipes that I based my own recipe on. The recipe from Raw Feeding for IBD Cats is a good one (not just for cats with IBD): Balanced Raw Food Recipe with Nutritional Analysis

    Alnutrin Vs. Ezcomplete

EZComplete: use with boneless meat contains Omega-3 source (green-lipped mussel) contains digestive enzymes more supplement pre-mix needed per pound of meat more expensive than Alnutrin Alnutrin: use with meat + organ OR meat + bone + organ (purchase the appropriate formula) does not contain...

    Cooking In Raw Diets

I disagree with Dr. Pierson on this topic, and do not cook the meat when making batches. If you do decide to partially cook, follow her directions and make sure you do NOT cook any of the bone.

    Raw Intolerance?

Our kitten, Koda, recently had us worried sick because he was vomiting. We determined that he has a raw beef intolerance. He throws up immediately if there is even a tiny bit of raw beef mixed into his food. So perhaps you can try different proteins? Indy stores often carry samples of...

    Hare Today Price Increase

There's a HT coupon this weekend! (I don't think there's been one in a while now.) "Coupon code July 2nd- 4th only. $10.00 off $200 order July4save10" I just received my order this past week, so unfortunately I won't be able to take advantage of this. Hope this helps someone else here :)

What Is A Good Balance Of Protein Types?

I believe that the more variety you can offer, the better. Home-prepared or commercial cat food – rotate those proteins! – CatCentric I feed chicken, turkey, duck, quail, and rabbit. Mouse and cavy were not big hits in our household (mixing with other proteins and/or freeze-dried treat...

    Ground Mouse

There are definitely different schools of thought when it comes to supplementing whole-animal grinds. Some consider them to be basically equivalent to feeding whole prey, which is often touted as being the "perfect food." I prefer to err on the side of caution and supplement. It's fine to...

    Hare Today Price Increase

@maureen brad I actually think it's great that you feed Rad Cat in rotation with the HT homemade raw! It would be pretty expensive to feed Rad Cat 100% of the time. And there aren't as many protein varieties as I would like. I've also heard that Answers is really good, if your son's store...

    Hare Today Price Increase

Shipping from RFM is more expensive than from HT to Maryland, where I'm located... So I'll probably continue ordering from both. I need HT's whole-carcass rabbit and quail! I'm so lucky to have a chest freezer.

    Ground Mouse

You can try mixing it with another grind without fur. We ordered the ground mouse in our first order as well, but did not re-order. Our three little buggers aren't fans of it, even though they like whole-prey pinky mice just fine.

RFM = Raw Feeding Miami. As the name suggests, they're located in Miami, FL.

    Hare Today Price Increase

It is possible, but I wouldn't know. I was under the impression that prices were fairly constant up until recently. Either way, I find that HT's pricing is still competitive with other options (such as Raw Feeding Miami), especially for rabbit. It might just be that demand for some products...

    Raw Gizzard Safety Concern

I feed gizzards to my three little monsters as well. :) Salmonella is more a risk to humans than it is to cats. Cats can handle the bacterial content of raw meats just fine. So just make sure that you wash your hands and sanitize anything that may have come into contact with raw meat.

    Hare Today Price Increase

I'm also starting to order 55 lbs at a time, to save on shipping and also not have to worry about price increases for a couple months. Just wish I had placed my order a couple weeks ago... lots of items have increased in price, by about $1/lb.

    Whole Carcass Rabbit And Hairballs

If the coconut oil is only going to be used for a short while, I wouldn't worry about it. If you need something to use long-term, I would research other options. It's debatable whether or not coconut oil is safe, and why take the risk?

    Whole Carcass Rabbit And Hairballs

Why the coconut oil? It contains salicylates, which are harmful. It can also cause liver problems, since cats can't process medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs). Coconut oil and cats | Little Big Cat The Golden Paste - Unsafe in Cats? (see "Problem 2. The Oil")

    Are My Recipes Balanced?

While there is no harm in lightly cooking the egg whites, it isn't necessary. There is more than enough biotin in the egg yolk so that the avidin in the egg whites is not an issue. The white is okay to feed so long as you feed the yolk along with it. I mix whole eggs into my batches. The...
