    Black Stool

My vet prescribed Methycobalamin B12 but after roaring start, he became poorly and there were black pieces in his unusually light soft stool. I'd expressed my concern at his soft light stools but was ignored, I assumed it was the renal food. I was then recommended to up a B Complex tonic he'd...

    Epatkaitin Problem

Apart from the lymphoma, sounds as though she had a happy life eating good food. I had to visit my local pet clinic to buy a few more pouches of the ghastly renal food to mix with the kitten food and asked the vet there (not my regular vet, she has no equipment) if there was anything low...

    Epatkaitin Problem

Sorry, forgot to ask, how did she do on her normal food? I'm beginning to think this renal 'food' is yet another rip off. Just called in to buy a few pouches and the price has jumped 20%! It's not the cost, but cat was doing very badly when given ONLY renal food. I understand the 'wet' part for...

    Epatkaitin Problem

I do have concerns regarding this over 'renal food'. He'd been eating a high fiber kibble when he was first diagnosed with early onset to normal by a former vet. Then he stopped eating altogether. He now eats predominantly wet food and will eat the renal pap IF mixed with a little kitten food...

    Epatkaitin Problem

I don't give him any meds, just Krill oil, a liquid B Complex, a Probiotic and CBD oil so can only conclude, given the swiftness of his turnaround, it must be the Epataikin. When I stopped it he was better straight away. Just have to wait for phosphorous results. Here's another poster who'd had...

    Epatkaitin Problem

Epakaitin was the one recommended by my vet. We don't have Phos-Bind here and I'd be hesitant feeding him something with aluminum in it. I've scoured the net and ones containing calcium carbonate are way recommended over aluminum. Neither here nor there as it makes him poorly anyway. Just must...

    Renal Food

Sorry for the delay in replying. My new vet specialises in cats (he's training in cardiac surgery part time). I'm constantly bothering him with questions via a messaging app when my nerves get the better of me and he always responds at length straight away. The only thing we disagree on slightly...

    Epatkaitin Problem

As my cat was barely eating a renal wet food, I added a little kitten food I know he loves and he cleaned his bowl. Not knowing how much phosphorous the kitten food contained, I added some Epatkaitin. His behaviour quickly reversed to the solely renal food (without the kitten food added) over...

    Renal Food

My CKD cat has had to revert to renal food, which he now eats, but his stools are always small, soft and light in colour. I give him Krill oil capsules, B Complex, Methycobalamin, and CBD for his hypertension. I've also grown wheatgrass for him which he constantly nibbles at. I'd been giving him...

The Good And The Bad of Miralax

Me again on Miralax. I missed your question 'what did they (the stools) look like'. Since he's been switched to Royal Canin Loaf his stools are always soft and not well formed, which is to be expected eating only that pap. My problem (again) is that he didn't pass a stool this morning and I'm...

The Good And The Bad of Miralax

I've just read your link. My vet, lovely as he is, is absolutely insistent on this 'it drains water from the intestines' line, however, he says the same about psyllium husk. Cat had hearty appetite just yesterday, this morning I found a few soft stools and one almost formed, albeit blackish...

The Good And The Bad of Miralax

It has nothing to do with you or what B12 does or doesn't do for you. If it doesn't act as a laxative for me then how for the cat? In any case it doesn't act as a laxative for the cat, which is why I have to us Miralax. And of course I talk (every day) with my vet, I don't rely on cat forums...

The Good And The Bad of Miralax

If he's constipated he won't eat. I think maybe he figures if it doesn't come out of one end, it'll come out of the other. I tae methycobalamin (B12) and it doesn't stimulate my appetite nor acts as a laxative. I don't understand where this is coming from. I've seen it in other places too 0.o

The Good And The Bad of Miralax

Cat refuses to eat today, vet's day off so back off for IV tomorrow. I don't understand this Methycobalamin treating constipation though, I give him a tab every morning, I've taken it for years and never felt it acting as a laxative 0.o

The Good And The Bad of Miralax

I updated vet on cat in that he ate yesterday but then ran in and out of litterbox an hour later and I gave him little bit of Miralax. He told me (again) to bring him in for IV and then he would show me how to do subQ. I told him NO subQ. Two of my dogs were on it and both died shortly after...

The Good And The Bad of Miralax

The vets here are a bit of a mixed bag also. He's gone from 'everything normal' to high CKD in a matter of months with no change in diet, which I believe to be the cause of all this. Wild cats don't get CKD. It's all the crap they put in the stuff for domesticated (did no favours for them there)...
