On 1st October 2023 our beloved half-Bengal, Harley crossed the Rainbow Bridge. He leaves behind his brother Benji.
He was 18 years old.
As many of you know, Harley had some health problems earlier this year with Hyphema in his right eye and also a severe ear infection on the same side. We...
Harley's eye returned to its normal colour but when the light picks up his eyes, his left eye has the normal reflection but his right eye does not. The last vet we saw thought Harley's ear infection and the eye problem were connected, something I'd said from the start. He was put on target...
He's back. We had to set the trap to catch him. He came when my son called him while rattling Dreamies...and the little devil came within 5ft and took off again.
As I help with rescue from time to time, I have a trap. I was going upstairs when I thought I heard the trap go off. Oh, the...
Kitchen window only opens at the bottom. The other windows open outwards (they're not sash windows) and we have brickwork.
No sign of him yet but I've got a leg of lamb cooking in the oven so hoping the smell wafting out entices him back in.
Oscar's 3 years old (according to our vet). There are types of screens here but they are too easy for a paw to just open them. They fasten to the windows or doors with velcro. We tried them a few years ago and it took our smarty cat a couple of minutes to figure it out. Our windows and doors...
For the second time this week. First time, he and Shady had sneaked into the kitchen (how we haven't worked that out yet), the window was open and off Oscar went. Shady didn't go out. Took us several hours to get the little rascal back in and he wasn't happy about it.
The back door in the...
I've got two chili plants. One on the windowsill which at the moment has 4 chilies on it and a few more buds. The other is in my hydroponic unit and has a lot of buds on it, one already forming into a chili.
My question is, how long does it take to dry chilies in a dehydrator? Mine is an...
Well, here we are again. I got a phone call from Fluffy's owner on Monday. That's the first time he's made contact since February 12th. Could he visit Fluffy on Tuesday. No problem I said. Tuesday afternoon, I get a text saying something's come up and he can't make it, could he come on...
Further update on Harley. Saw a different vet this time and he thought the ear and the eye problem could be connected (what I've been saying all along). He wasn't happy with the ear so took a swab to send to an external laboratory so they could grow a culture. We got the results of that back...
Ping-pong ball might be too light. I was thinking more along the lines of a small Kong ball - they are made of hard rubber. My German Shepherd had a Kong toy - the one you can put paste in. He would gnaw at it but not one single piece ever came off. Sadly, the Kong outlived my lovely dog...
Another trick to stop cats eating too fast is to put a small rubber ball in the dish. They've got to move the ball to eat the food and it slows them down.
As I said, incompetent and add to that, lazy.
The vet phoned not 5 minutes ago. Harley has a mild bacterial infection in his ears so we have to pick up medication for it tomorrow. Seems we've nipped that in the bud before it develops into something nastier. He wants to see Harley again in 7...
UPDATE
Just back from the vet with Harley. I think the last vet we saw has gone. He read the notes Ruth had left and didn't seem to be very impressed with her.
He was very thorough with Harley and also says he's in no pain from whatever has caused the Hyphema. He was concerned that because...
See my reply to FeebysOwner.
The workman, in this case a workwoman came a few hours after this happened. We couldn't cancel the appointment as we've waited for a long time to get the worktop in the kitchen sorted out. The lady took one look at it and said we need a completely new worktop so...
She wanted to hospitalise him tomorrow - all day at a cost of £400 ($500). She didn't take any readings but before we were seen, she was dealing with an emergency. From what I could hear, a poor cat had been hit by a car and also had eye trauma. This vet called the head vet to take a look so...
We're just back from the vet. Has anyone seen anything like this before? This is Harley. He is an 18 year old half-Bengal. He and his brother spend most of their time curled up on my son's bed. Today we had workmen coming to do a repair in the kitchen so my son very kindly cleared the...
Yes, he is a reasonable person and was a good neighbour. All this came about because he asked his brother to make some repairs to the house, particularly the central heating. Poor man sat all last winter with no heating. He asked repeatedly, it fell on deaf ears. By Law in England a Landlord...
Verbal agreement. Nothing in writing. Everything happened very quickly. He knew he was being evicted, went to the Council and declared himself homeless through no fault of his own and the next day they'd found him a place in a shared house but no pets are allowed. It will take 2 - 3 years...
