Do cats get used to mirtazapine?

Kitty is doing well, but still hard to feed. I still don't know what's the matter. She's good for several days, then has trouble for a few, in a cycle. I did get the mirtazapine ear gel. I have recently switched her to a better insulin, Levemir, and I'm trying a low dose of Miralax. I...

    Cat is biting

He literally leaps up on my legs begging to be picked up or jumps onto my shoulders when I bend over to put down his food bowl. Should i put him down then? He seems extremely desperate to be loved and not afraid at all. Frantic to be loved, even. Then after frantic rubbing all over me and...

    Cat is biting

It's actually twice a day, but I only pick up and cuddle him for a brief time on one of the visits, when I feed him. The second daily feeding time is when I'm with him longer. Ok, I'll try more frequent visits! (It's harder that he has to be kept separate from the other cats because he's...

    Cat is biting

I posted about this 3 year old stray cat months ago. He bites hard when bored or trying to play. Playing string with him or throwing him a toy does no good. He wants to be cuddling with me and biting and clawing. He is aggressive about getting on me and cuddle for 30 seconds, then bite me...

Best tips for giving medication to anxious senior cat as peacefully as possible?

The Royal Canin pill assists are much more eagerly accepted by my 2 cats on meds than Feline Greenies pill pockets of various flavors. You can get them at the vet and they are a little more expensive than Feline Greenies. When the cats are super fussy, I press in a small crunchy treat or two...

Do cats get used to mirtazapine?

I live in a rural area and she is by far the best vet within reasonable distance. I cut the mirtazapine into 5 pieces so she got less than 1/4 dose, and that went much better. She was only mildly sedated this time. I had decreased the phenobarbitol since the last mirtazapine attempt. For...

Do cats get used to mirtazapine?

Gabapentin was another choice for seizures and did not work. I try these tasty options as toppers. It works a couple times, then she won't eat it. Tonight she stopped eating the Hartz bisque. She will not eat baby food. I think there must be another disease process going on with her and I...

Do cats get used to mirtazapine?

I have a 6 year old diabetic cat, diagnosed 6 moths ago. I give her 2.2 units of prozinc, a medium acting insulin 2x per day. Her dosage was adjusted with her wearing a Freestyle Libre sensor for 10 days or so, twice. Sometimes she eats well, other times, she wants nothing except my...

Finding canned foods my cat will eat? (He now hates his former favorite)

I have been adding nutritional yeast as a sprinkle, and that seems to help a lot. For now.

Finding canned foods my cat will eat? (He now hates his former favorite)

I have never found a solution other than to feed them what they will eat.

    Wintering feral in Minnesota

I'm not the one who posted about it, but here's the basic one https://www.lcsupply.com/products/hound-heater-classic?variant=29 I use the K & H outdoor heated cat pads, those work very well. I'm in MN, and I don't think the K & H pads are quite enough for this climate. It was comfy enough...

To adopt or not to adopt....that is the question

I get very upset giving up kittens that I took care of. I love the cats I keep and those I put up for adoption very much. When I have been with more than about 3 cats, there were way more cat fights etc. I put up 2 elaborate cat trees from Chewy, and that helped, with more vertical territory...

To adopt or not to adopt....that is the question

Too many cats is stressful to the other ones. 1. Competition for territory 2. Competition for human attention 3. Competition for financial resources if a couple of them get sick I only take on an extra cat if it's not adoptable. I reluctantly took in cat 4 because he bites, probably due to...

Advice on a 10+ year old feral kitty currently in my spare bedroom

She sounds semi-feral to me, too. Adult ferals and abandoned cats that my mom and I taken in over decades seem to have little interest in being outdoors once the weather turns cold. (Minnesota). My vet says that's very common. The cats know they have a good deal inside a heated space. I've...

    Wintering feral in Minnesota

I think so. The main thing is for the shelter itself to be well-insulated and without many gaps for air to move through. (I'm a science nerd). So far as the filling, others have always said straw is best. I can't comment on that, other than to say that a raccoon I rehabbed and ended up having...

    Wintering feral in Minnesota

I think it will be ok as long as there is a good thickness of Styrofoam or similar on the bottom of the shelter and all around, being sure to deal with any gaps as best you can. I'm not sure what sort of shelter this will be. The air moving through the space beneath the shelter (e.g. through...

Friend of Ferals Award Badge - Apply Here

I live on a rural property and when ferals show up, I trap them and take them in the house and socialize them. I have socialized 6 feral kittens and 2 adults so far in my life. They get spayed and neutered, but I don't ear tip them since they become actual pets.

Just curious on other peoples’ experience with young cats that have seizures?

Well I'm not super hopeful about this kitten, but I think the vet has a reasonable approach. It's very stressful to be a caregiver for pets or people.
