Need advice: cat lost appetite, fever, no diagnosis

Oh my soul I am so sorry to hear about all you are going through. And your sweet girl! The cost of veterinary care is so very stressful. We spent over $7000 trying to save our 2 year old Tonkinese. Thankfully family was able to help out as well. I hope the internist is able to give you some...

Need advice: cat lost appetite, fever, no diagnosis

My vet kinda made it sound like the stress of the test on the cat wasn’t worth it. Because even if it were positive they’d do the same supportive care. My kitty was also given fluids and Onsior. I just thought it was an idea worth considering if someone in the house had in fact been sick recently.

Need advice: cat lost appetite, fever, no diagnosis

Anybody in your house have COVID lately? Might be a long shot but my cat had fever of unknown origin, all labs and tests including X-rays were normal. He wouldn’t eat, was shivering, etc. He stayed over at ER, (cost me over $2500 for them to say “we don’t know”). Only thing I can think of is my...

    cedar box

I could be way off, but my main concern would be this. Cats kinda like their territory to smell like them. Cedar has a strong odor that might mask the cats’ scent and annoy them, causing them not to want to use the box. Just a thought.

Smudge has now learned to use the printer!!!

My sorta-Siamese, Smudge, is too smart for MY own good. 🤣 A couple months ago he learned how to turn on the faucet. A couple weeks ago, he learned how to turn in the radio. Tonight’s feat? He has learned how to make the printer print test pages! 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ He loves when I print something...

Sudden change in behaviour towards a guest

My Smudge is skittish of my adult son, only when he is wearing shoes. I think it’s the big footsteps (son is 6’3”). Anytime son isn’t wearing shoes, Smudge is fine, even allows pets and gives kisses. But if son walks in with shoes on, Smudge scampers away. And it’s only my one son. Other son and...

Merging households with an allergic human

I second the LiveClear food. Pricey, but it does seem to help my adult son be much less allergic to my kitty.

    Unsuccessful introduction, now reintroducing

Hmmmmm. I just saw your video. I think Woody is playing but Pepper doesn’t really like it. My Tessa is almost 7 pounds and Smudge is 15 pounds. Smudge gets too playful, but Tessa is very aggressive when she wants to be. So when she makes those noises like your kitty is making, Smudge has learned...

Does my cat look skinny or thin?

I was gonna say she looks good to me, too. But my Tessa is a “whopping” 6.8 lbs. The chart is helpful. Tessa looks like a 4. BUT, uh oh, my Smudgers is a 6! And looks like he might be pushing 7!! I’d better try to trim him down 😮

    The Positive Thread - 2024

We got a lot of snow here today, but it didn’t stick to the sidewalks!!! So NO shoveling! Hooray!! And I filled the feeders yesterday before the snow, so Smudge is having a great day, too!

    Depo-medrol in a diabetic/CKD cat

I’m so glad you found a more affordable vet. Are you in the US near a Walgreens? Walgreens I get the albuterol for $30 with GoodRx.

    The Positive Thread - 2024

This reminded me of one year we took our kids to Disney. They were wearing sweatshirts. The locals were in winter hats and gloves. It was 50 degrees. One employee asked me “aren’t you cold?” We are from the northeast and had literally outrun a blizzard to get there. 50 was a glorious welcome...

Cat Food Recall Recalled Cat Food Updates

So forgive me if this has been discussed. This popped up on my feed. I’ve combed through this thread and read some of the things linked here, but I’m not finding any concrete info. My cats eat Purina cat chow. What exactly is the alleged issue with it?

    Depo-medrol in a diabetic/CKD cat

I’d ask about fluticasone as well. Tessa uses it and it helps her a great deal. Are you in the USA? It can be very expensive. Our pharmacy thankfully accepts GoodRx for the cat, which helps reduce the cost by over half.

    Depo-medrol in a diabetic/CKD cat

I’m sorry your kitty is going through all of this. I don’t know much about diabetes in cats, but I think one shot of depo should be okay. My Tessa gets it every 7 weeks. We do watch her for symptoms of diabetes but in her severe asthma case, she needs it every 7 weeks. So far she has been doing...

    Goodbye, Mr. Hissypants

Oh I’m so very sorry, how awful!! But yes, thank goodness there were people there so Mr Hissypants didn’t have to suffer long. Poor sweet baby. I’m so thankful he had you to feed him and stroke him and show him love.

    Unsuccessful introduction, now reintroducing

I actually agree with both opinions. My female cat, I had her first, was spayed - and my new male cat, even after being neutered, seemed a bit too interested at times. I think he was just going through growing up, if that makes sense. So yeah, if your kitty isn’t spayed yet she could very well...

Message From Vet Saying Will Refuse to Treat Cats If Rabies Not Updated!!!

Oh I’m sorry. I’m in the northeastern USA. My town offers a free clinic every year, as does my moms town. I wonder if your vet would be willing to give you a discount on your additional kitties? Or a group rate? It never hurts to ask.

    Vocal destructive cat

Is he Siamese? His behavior sounds a lot like my Smudge. And for Siamese is totally normal. They’re crazy but oh so very loving. And very entertaining! I do have another kitty though, so Smudge does have a companion to play with - they tear around like little maniacs.
