    Cats as self healers

I was thinking today of how Zorro, when he had IBS and was an outdoor kitty, would often flop on a patch of soft, cool moss with very cool clay beneath it. I wonder now if it soothed him in some way, as he always sought it out. It got me to thinking how ferals must seek out their own “remedies”...

    Dipper Tribute

Pretty sweet tribute to Dipper, the 3 legged pit bull by Jon Stewart on the Daily Show yesterday. ❤️

    Zorro

Zorro just passed, peacefully and painlessly in my arms at home…He was my dad’s cat: the last of the litter and the best of the bunch, from a barn box. Secretly, we both knew that this marvelous kitten would help my dad through the grief of his wife, who would pass that summer, and without...

Wifi & routers: bad for cats?

I often wonder about wifi radiation and routers being bad for cats. Does anyone have any sagacity on this subject?

    Nutramax probiotics

This is the company that makes the probiotics recommended by my vet & the oncologist. Want to stress emphatically there is 100% absolutely no judgment in this post. I just wondered if anyone had any experience with this brand & if they’ve had luck with it w/ their cat?

    Rx Clay…any positives?

Has anyone tried this product my vet is recommending?

    Cat Haiku

As I understand it, a haiku is composed of 5 syllables on the first line, 7 syllables on the second, and 5 again on the third. So, send in your cat haikus here. I’m no expert, but giving it a go…(it probably shouldn’t rhyme, I think, as mine does). Cat is reposing His rosy toes composing A...

    You know you’re a cat owner when…

You go on a 1 day staycation before visiting the vet, and spend any free time going to the nearest pet store to get a Yeeoww banana, a new scratcher & litter scoop.

Being a DJ for your Cat

Wow! I just hit the bullseyes by playing Roger Calm for my cat! He hopped up into my lap and purred and purred and purred. Has anyone else been their cat’s dj and hit the mark on some music they like?

Extra items we get them just because

The NY Times’s Wirecutter often recommends some of the best things for cats after testing them out. To me it’s all just eye candy as cat food & vet bills take precedence. But it’s fun to look… these are just a few.

    Kitten hobo!

I went to the dump today. Dump mistress was all frazzled b/c they’d just delivered a new empty dumpster…with a baby kitten on top! Those big containers come from a town 35 minutes away, on a windy backroad. How it survived clinging to the top of it all that way is beyond me. She demanded that...

    Working Cats

This is a random photograph from 1 of my favorite cat books called Working Cats, by Terry Gruber. We all have our own cats but I’d be willing to bet a lot of people here have stories to tell about going to visit their favorite bodega cat, or the little kitten at the machine shop, or the one that...

Plain yogurt and cats— any positive notes?

So my cat is going through an IBS flare up & I’m back to the days of yore of getting that tricky balance between …too much pumpkin? Not enough? Built up resistance to novel protein? Anyway I read that it is OK to give cats a tiny amount of plain yogurt to help with the runs. I gave him a...

    Mrs. Meyers Gardenia Air Freshener

I confess to being a Mrs Meyers cleaning products junkie, b/c the scents are so organic & lovely. But dang it, wouldn’t you know I went & bought the gardenia air freshener & later read that it is yet another one that is bad for cats (along w/ lavender). For any other Meyers fans out there, stick...

    Buffalo!

This nice lady let me take a photo of her T shirt. I am pleased that this is catching on, not just with cougars. The Buffalo Field Campaign in Yellowstone Park is trying to make a wildlife crossing bridge so buffalo don’t have to deal with cars. It’s a pretty design.

    IBD…the mystery of it all

I’ve had cats all my life. Not ONCE was it a problem ‘til now. Never did my ancient cat loving relatives mention it either. Maybe it just wasn’t diagnosed “back then,” but now it is everywhere. Figuring out the diet & medicines definitely helps, but for me, it doesn’t explain the mystery of why...

    Stop rodenticides that harm cats!

For any Californian, calling your Assemblyman (or woman) and telling them to vote YES on AB 1322, would be helpful. This bill would further restrict a rodenticide which, when also eaten by cats, foxes, raptors, etc., also poisons them. Passing this bill would especially help ferals. Thanks.

Scammers bilking people looking for lost pets

Read an article just now about people claiming to work at animal shelters saying they have your lost pet (having gotten your number via social media or a poster) then asking for money for their return via an app or a gift card. Do not fall for this!

    Blue bottom cans

Huh! my Farmina quail and pumpkin is back in stock, but with a new blue bottom! What “can” this mean? Is it merely a new form of packaging? But then why some of the flavors of it and not others?
