Took in another stray but she's positive for FCoV antibodies

Update here: post treatment, she's had two tests PCR and both were negative. So it seems it really did work and we're ecstatic, both for her and well for us because we can't imagine giving her up for adoption anymore. Nobody wants her anyway apparently but well that's a moo point now. She's been...

Took in another stray but she's positive for FCoV antibodies

Just an update in case anyone will still see this. We decided to go with a non profit organisation from the north (well, central Italy, but for us in Sicily everything north of Naples is the north 😂). They got us the meds from abroad and we finally started giving them to her four days ago. She...

Took in another stray but she's positive for FCoV antibodies

I'm so sorry that happened to your cat, and it must have been terrible for you 😔 Thank you for the input. I'm actually torn between giving her the meds and then somewhat chancing it, or just leaving her be and just chancing it. The probability is quite low - but if anything did happen I would...

Took in another stray but she's positive for FCoV antibodies

That's a very good question, and one I currently don't have an answer for. It's one of the things I hope to find out tomorrow from the vet friend of my doctor friend who said he will look into this, and what kind of testing we should to to cover everyone. It seems likely they can be reinfected...

Took in another stray but she's positive for FCoV antibodies

She said she and her boyfriend have a trip to Rome coming up and they just realized they wouldn't know what to do with her then. I offered to cat sit for free even though it's like a 50k drive one way but she just stopped replying after that.

Also, yes you're right, there isn't much evidence beyond the hundred odd days they continued testing in that study. Still at the moment it seems like the best shot we've got. We've also researched possible side effects extensively and it seems very safe. Nonetheless I am by no means taking this...

Took in another stray but she's positive for FCoV antibodies

True, we haven't factored in subsequent testing! We'll have to replan for that. Thanks for pointing that out. I may have to reschedule.. We've tried countless Facebook posts asking both for adoption and for foster to adopt in groups not just in Sicily but in groups nationwide in Italy. I...

Took in another stray but she's positive for FCoV antibodies

I've been going over these studies with a doctor friend of mine and a vet friend of his. We are now thinking of trying this approach. Nobody else has responded to any of our attempts to find her a home. She's now with my boyfriend but he works in another city so he had to take her there. She's...

Took in another stray but she's positive for FCoV antibodies

Yep that's the one I've been reading too! And a couple of others. My vet is going to get info on how the fecal testing works (IE if the lab they use does that). We are in Sicily so something's are a little... Backwards here.

Took in another stray but she's positive for FCoV antibodies

Plot twist - they don't want her anymore. So we are back to zero candidates. I've read studies of treating cats with the experimental antiviral drugs for 7-10 days when they are fcov positive but before they could ever develop fip - like a preventative measure. A lady who contacted me in one...

Took in another stray but she's positive for FCoV antibodies

Yes. I've been crying on and off all morning, but besides my selfish wish to keep her, it's for no one's good to hold on and try to solve something that may not be solvable.

Took in another stray but she's positive for FCoV antibodies

Mine are negative. I'm now thinking if it's worth keeping her with my boyfriend for a while and see if she gets negative or doesn't shed - I don't know what the chances of either are - or just try to find her a forever home right away. One lady has messaged me who is interested in adopting her...

Took in another stray but she's positive for FCoV antibodies

As far as I understand alpha 1 would be the glycoprotein that if elevated can mean different diseases could be suspected among which fip, but hers is low. Alpha2 agonists seem to be given for sedation etc - her blood was taken when she was under anesthesia already for the spay surgery. I'll ask...

Took in another stray but she's positive for FCoV antibodies

Thank you, I think we are leaning towards isolate for now and retest. The vet doesn't suspect FIP at all, I misunderstood initially due to the test name being a bit misleading and not understanding Italian perfectly when on the phone. there are two more images the veg sent me with the results...

Took in another stray but she's positive for FCoV antibodies

Thank you, I've since learned she doesn't have fip luckily but she's positive only to the feline coronavirus. I don't think I can change the title anymore, is there any way to do that?

Took in another stray but she's positive for FCoV antibodies

Thank you for your patience. I think I need to take a few days to digest it all, wait for their results and then start thinking about making a decision. I think I'm a bit clutching at straws trying to rationalize my wish to keep her but if they are negative.. then yeah, it's just added risk for...

Took in another stray but she's positive for FCoV antibodies

The thing that confuses me is that within the two reputable sources you have linked which I'd looked at as well, one says less than five percent develop fip and the other says 10percent. And the second one says some say newly acquired cats should be kept separate if suspected to be FCoV...

Took in another stray but she's positive for FCoV antibodies

Yes I've spent most of the night actually reading studies, medical papers and so on. I still found a lot of contradictions, like some say cats will clear the virus in X months and others saying they will always have it. And some in between. I don't know, my head is spinning the more I read up on...

Took in another stray but she's positive for FCoV antibodies

Hi everyone, I've had mine in for bloodwork this morning to see if they already have the same antibodies so if they've already been exposed anyways. I'm finding so much contradictory information though my head is spinning! Is there anyone here who knows how this antibody , feline coronavirus...

Took in another stray but she's positive for FCoV antibodies

Hi silentmeowlook, I've just checked again but there isn't a number, only the reference for negative values. I tried that group but they declined my request saying it is only for actually sick cats to be connected with providers of treatment.
