Thank you to everyone for your responses. We have a small bit of progress. We put Craven inside of his crate and let Clem come in the room (bc he kept trying to attack her), at first she seemed really calm and was coming up to this cage and smelling it. After a little bit, we let Craven out and...
So we adopted my cats Clem and Craven last May from the same cat cafe. They immediately got along and for the last year and a half they’ve been best friends, sleeping next to each other, grooming each other and play fighting as normal. Last night my husband and I both woke up to our cats...
Wow thank you so much for this, it made me cry but in the best way. I sent it to my husband as well. I appreciate you and everyone in this lovely cat community.
Hi there. I lost my cat yesterday and I too have been struggling with feelings of guilt. Though my cat was sick for about a month, it felt so sudden. It was hard to have him fade away in my arms and afterwards I hyperventilated and wondered if I had done the right thing by putting him to sleep...
Back in December 2020, my husband and I very suddenly saw our sweet 14 year old Calico aptly named Cali get so sick so suddenly. Within a week, we had to put her to rest due to major kidney issues. Her brother (from the same litter) named Zinger stood by us for the last 9 months to help us heal...
They are free fed but feeding them separately might be what we'll have to do. We've gotten the female kitten to stop eating it so it's mainly just the male kitten and my husband and I are gone at work for 9 hours everyday so we cant actively supervise it. I'm considering moving from free feeding...
Hi everyone. I have recently gotten two 3 month old kittens about a month ago and I have a 15 year old adult cat. We have recently moved the kittens out into the house more as the kittens and our cat seem to be tolerating each other more. However it seems that now that the kittens are out more...
That’s true! And in Zinger’s defense since his sister died in Dec, he’s been all by himself for 7 months and has been so spoiled so I can only imagine what an adjustment this has been. And overall he’s such a sweet cat all the time even when he’s been sick, so we’re very lucky.
Yes they are so weird and they stress me out but I love them haha. But yeah I think we may pick some kitten wet food up to try as well both for him and the little ones. Thanks for the recommendation!
No it's dry kitten food also by Hills. Zinger's always been fairly finicky with wet food even before all this happened but we try to give him some every so often for the benefits of it being more hydrating, it's usually just a matter of finding the right one he'll actually eat. Since the kittens...
Just an update — last night we put out the kittens food and this morning my husband saw him eating and currently I am watching him eat again! Still not totally sure if this will last (I did give him some Mirataz this morning) but it feels so good to see him eat some food on his own again. I also...
He is still drinking water — how much, I’m not sure of. We have a cat fountain so it’s difficult to see how much he’s drank in a day but I and my husband have seen him drinking water a few times a day, it’s really the only thing he’ll do on his own. And he’s still peeing in the litter box.
I noticed you said your older cat also stopped eating after a new kitten. Did the older cat just eventually start eating again on its own or did you do anything special to help?
I’m also just realizing there’s a chance I may have been applying the Mirataz slightly wrong in his ear. The vet wasn’t able to show me (covid related restrictions) and instead just sent me on my way with it. I thought I’d been doing it right but I don’t think I went into his ear deep enough...
That’s a good point that I hadn’t considered. He hasn’t been in the same room as them eating but I suppose he could still potentially smell their food through the door? I’ll try to give him some of their food tonight or leave it in his bowl and see. I’d ideally like to get him on a fairly...
Unfortunately the earliest his regular vet could see him would be next Thursday despite his current issues. So I think our tentative plan is to call the emergency vet tomorrow to see if they are willing to provide us with the pill version of Mirataz since the ointment seems to have very little...
I got him with various baby foods, pumpkin purée and some other Tiki Cat wet items and he wouldn’t eat it. But I also got some Temptations catnip treats and he ate 5 or 6 of those. So it seems like all he wants are different kinds of treats, I really can’t understand why but I also know treats...
As far as I know his teeth are mostly fine. He had his last normal check up in Jan and they said he had some minor teeth issues so we started brushing them more at home but the vet checked his teeth yesterday upon request and didn’t note anything strange, the treats he will eat are hard too so I...
Yes, we have paused intros and he hasn’t physically seen them in almost 3 days. I’m going out today to grab some other things to see if he’ll eat them. Since I posted that, I did get him to lick up some tuna, don’t know how much of it he really ate but he did lick a lot of it. And he continues...
