Apologies in advance if this is a ridiculous question. :)
After almost a year of wrapping Gus's daily dose of Cerenia (and every other day dose of Mirtazapine) in Pill Pocket dough before sticking it down his throat, I finally got some #5 gelcaps and am ready to ditch the Pill Pockets...
Just another note about Naraquin, for what it's worth.
Kitty's been taking it for about two months now (I think?) and it has definitely helped bring down his phosphorus level. However, the vet noticed at his checkup earlier this week that there's a blackish/greenish film along the gumline of...
It did work to bring down my boy's phosphorus levels after using it for a month.
I'm a little annoyed by the dosing instructions on the bottle, which say to give one capsule per meal. We feed Gus four times per day, so does that mean four capsules per day? That seemed like a lot, so I called...
Kitty's normal med time is about 7pm, but he got yesterday's dose around 11:30pm since we were out of town until late. I'd like to walk it back to 7pm.
Is it okay to give it an hour early every day for a few days until he's back on schedule?
Forgive me if this is a silly question, but how...
Anybody have experience using the phosphate binder supplement Naraquin? The vet just prescribed it earlier this week to help bring Gus's phosphate down. There isn't a whole lot of information about it online other than the basic stuff from the company that makes it, so I wonder if it's...
It seems like most personal accounts of Mirtazapine side effects I've read about are kitties being extra vocal and wired. But the VCA site's info page about it says the most common side effect is drowsiness.
Have you seen the drowsiness in your kitty?
My boy seems a little more aggressive...
Another related question: Does encasing the pill with a little Pill Pocket before pilling Kitty the old fashioned way help prevent the pill from sticking in the esophagus? I've read about the dangers of dry pilling, with clindamycin particularly because it can cause esophageal ulcers and damage...
It could just be the Tiny Tabs were made to look shiny in the photo because it looks nicer, too.
We do plan to try mixing the liquid with some other treat in the meantime. After mixing up this morning's med/Churu/broth, I actually took the tiniest drop of a taste on my fingertip, and OMG it...
Gus was prescribed a 14-day course of clindamycin for a mouth infection. (Sutures from a lower canine extraction irritated his gums, which led to infection.) Rather than manhandle him and syringe it down his throat, we decided to try the route of mixing it with food - initially just tuna...
We'd like to transition from Merrick Backcountry rabbit/gravy pouches to some other canned or wet food. We're trying to at least stay within the same brand for now to hopefully avoid too drastic of a change for his little body.
In the past, I have tried adding a treat he likes as a topper, but...
How do you slowly transition Kitty to a new food if he refuses to eat the old food?
We set down a plate with 1/4 portion of new food, and a separate plate with 3/4 portion of old food. He wolfs down the new food and leaves the old food to dry up and eventually end up in the trash.
We've...
They are these meat-flavored things that you can hide pills in for administering medication. The texture is almost like putty. You tuck the pill in, pinch the top closed, and voila!
Is it normal for a kitty's anus to be sore for a few days after having a stool sample taken manually at the vet's office?
This was done at Kitty's visit on Tuesday. It looked a little irritated, to me, and he still seemed to be moving a bit more gingerly than normal even yet this morning.
I...
This may be a silly question, but those are my specialty, so...:p
When we talk about taking it slow when transitioning to a new food, does that apply to different flavors and/or protein sources within the same kind/brand of food? (Example: within the Merrick Purrfect Bistro grain-free line of...
Aaaaand I just realized you meant "black-and-white cats" and not "black and/or white cats". But I don't see an option to delete my post, so blep and hello anyway. And I'll just back outta here slowly. :D
Gus is a triller, too. :) I'd never heard a cat sound like that before him. My most favorite sound is the trilling purr-meows he does when he's doing his "feed me" purrs and begging at the same time while the chef is preparing his meal. ;-)
The number of times per day that I greet my cat would probably be considered ridiculous.
