Very Frantic Feeder! I've Tried Everything...

I've called around and it seems like either I pay more for a spay (up to $500!) and $85-ish for a hernia repair, or I pay less for a spay ($125) and more for the hernia fix...this is the more affordable option it seems. I'll probably call a couple of other vets. I'm so bummed, my vet of 15 years...

Very Frantic Feeder! I've Tried Everything...

Oh wow! What a small world. :) The vet that I saw (who I won't be going back to as they don't do this surgery) said it wasn't inguinal or umbilical...he called it abdominal. If the kittens' are on their back, the mushy lump flattens out, but it's not like it can be pushed in in any way where it...

Very Frantic Feeder! I've Tried Everything...

Hi @PeeWee111 - thanks for the reply! So glad to hear that all ended up well with your little! I'm amazed it was only $30 extra...I don't think any vet here in Chicago would be so affordable. But one can hope!! I think my kittens' have abdominal hernias which are different than umbilical...

Very Frantic Feeder! I've Tried Everything...

Adorable! How did the hernia surgery go? I have five 5 week old kittens and 2 of them have soft mushy lumps on their bellies...going to the vet on Thursday. May I ask, was it expensive to have the hernia fixed when she was spayed? Thanks!!

    Mama gave birth!

I just checked on her and in less than 24 hours she has gained 16 grams! Whew! Not sure what happened with her weight yesterday, so strange! But she's happy, nursing well and super playful/inquisitive. So I'm happy. :))) The other kittens gained crazy amounts - 20-40 grams, even with me making...

    Mama gave birth!

Hi everyone. I'm concerned about one of the kittens (the one in a previous post whose 3rd eyelids were showing)...the 3rd eyelids seemed to reduce/go away for the most part unless she's sleepy and she has been eating/gaining weight and playing and climbing all around. This weekend, however, I...

    Mama gave birth!

Thanks. I'm watching like a hawk. If I see any hint of discharge or they start losing weight/stop nursing/stop being active, I'll bring the kitten in to be seen.

    Mama gave birth!

Hi all! I'm chiming in with another question about one of the kittens. Everyone seems to be doing fine...putting on plenty of weight, very active, starting to play (they're just over 2 weeks now), starting to crawl out of the nest, etc. Everyone's eyes are open, but one of the kittens has its...

    Mama gave birth!

@Sarthur2 @Furballsmom Well, big kitten gained over 20 grams since yesterday, so I think its ok! Thank you so much for all your input/advice. Really has helped a tremendous amount to know I have knowledgeable people to ask all my nervous nelly questions!! You're gems!!

    Mama gave birth!

One other question...everyone gained at least 10 grams in the last 24 hours except for the biggest kitten. It went from 185 to 191 - only 6 grams. That kitten is so much bigger than the others, is it possible for a big kitten like that to have a day where they don't put on 10 grams (it has...

    Mama gave birth!

The heating pad is meant for a pet's bed & doesn't have a temp setting - it's meant to be a low heat. I plugged it back in for overnight. I think the bed might be a little small for her and all the babies. Another one should be arriving soon. This morning when I went in to check on her she was...

    Mama gave birth!

I unplugged it and will check back in after a bit. She did just have a large bowl movement (which was totally normal, just big) - maybe that was hard work & she's having some pain from it and that's why she's panting.

    Mama gave birth!

I have a heating pad under the bed in the nest for the kittens. The room is about 72 degrees. I wonder if it's just too hot for her in the nest. Do you think the room at 72 degrees is warm enough for me to unplug the heating pad? She's in the nest with them most of the time.

    Mama gave birth!

Question: how long does it take for a mama's belly to go down? My cat's belly is still round after giving birth on wed 3/24. I thought her belly would be less round by now. I didn't see placentas for the first 3 since I wasn't there for the births, but they were cleaned up and umbilicals cut so...

    Mama gave birth!

Sorry for my delay in responding! Thank you, everyone! I double checked Petsmart the night I posted this and found they had the R.C. mother/baby dry so I ordered 2 3.5LB bags. :) Everyone seems to be doing well, growing & gaining weight. The biggest (last born - the orange one in the pic below)...

    Mama gave birth!

@Furballsmom I haven't heard of those brands...I'll look into them, thanks. @Sarthur2 they did say it's because of Covid. I see some Royal Canin that's just kitten food on Amazon, but I'd been feeding a Mother & Kitten dry food. Do you think there's a big difference? Would the plain kitten food...

    Mama gave birth!

One question...I have been feeding her Royal Canin mother & babycat wet & dry food. However, when I went to reorder a bag of dry food, I discovered that EVERYONE is out of stock. Chewy.com told me that there's an ingredient supply issue and that there's no estimate for it being resupplied. If I...

    Mama gave birth!

@Sarthur2 Thank you, thank you!! I'll keep monitoring & playing room service - she lays in the nest nursing & I bring food to her. :)

    Mama gave birth!

Thanks @Furballsmom! I'm just now seeing in an old thread that panting/fast breathing is not abnormal for new mamas while nursing. That's a bit of a relief. Anyone know how much KMR should be given in a day?

    Mama gave birth!

Yesterday morning, Embers gave birth. When I woke up, three had already been born. They were clean & no placentas in sight. Shortly after I arrived, she gave birth to a 4th and seemed to be tending to it but when she laid back down, the sac was off its body but not its head so I pulled it off. I...
