    Help - Feline Hyperesthesia

@Greta_Loki thank you so much for your response! I ordered a bottle of CBD oil for cats to try with her! I’ll report back when it arrives.

The early days of treating Feline Hyperesthesia

@fionasmom I'm willing to believe anything about FHS right now! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. After following up with the dermatologist on Thursday night, she recommended that we go back to our original dosages of buprenorphine and prednisolone for a bit, and Minnie almost...

    No poops post amputation.

Poor kitty! After 5 days I’d definitely check in with the vet. Pumpkin is supposed to be a natural laxative. I’ve never read about whether olive oil has laxative properties in cats, but I did have an incident where Minnie got covered in it (long story) so I know that it doesn’t hurt them! Good...

The early days of treating Feline Hyperesthesia

We brought her to a speciality hospital and had an appointment with a dermatologist and the neurologist, but we were seen by the dermatologist first. When she and I spoke she said that she consulted with the neurologist while she had Minnie sedated, and the neurologist said that unless we wanted...

The early days of treating Feline Hyperesthesia

A camera is a great idea! I've been thinking about getting one for a while! Any recommendations? I'm a teacher so there's no way for me to continue to work from home as long as my school remains open. I can ask the vet about boarding her, but she gets agitated at the vet's office and they often...

The early days of treating Feline Hyperesthesia

Starting to go a little crazy over here... Minnie is approaching the 14 day mark on prednisolone and amitriptyline but it's starting to feel like we're going backwards. She's pretty consistently been having 4-5 brief episodes a day for the last two weeks, but today has been all over the place...

    No poops post amputation.

Bupenorphine is an opiate and can definitely cause constipation. My girl Minnie took some time getting back to "regular" litter box habits after she was under anesthesia. I just assumed it was because of the fasting and stuff beforehand, but she's also on bupenorphine so that could have...

Post-spay and my kitten refuses the cone and bites at stitches.

If the cone has loops that you can run something through, try a harness! Minnie initially refused to keep her cone on post-surgery and I bought a cheap harness after reading a recommendation online (I don't remember where). It was the absolute best advice.

The early days of treating Feline Hyperesthesia

Minnie update: We are on day 9 of the prednisolone and amitriptyline. On Wednesday morning, she had a really severe episode that lasted for about 25 minutes. I called the vet in a panic and she suggested that we continue the buprenorphine for another week, as some cats need to be on pain...

The early days of treating Feline Hyperesthesia

Thank you both for sharing these resource! I've been googling pretty frantically since this all started, and it's hard to know where to start, especially since it seems like there's no real consensus on what causes FHS and how to treat it. It also sounds like Minnie has a pretty severe case...

    Help - Feline Hyperesthesia

I don't know if anyone is still checking this thread, but my Minnie has just been diagnosed with FHS. She has the tip of her tail amputated (it was too badly damaged) but she's still trying to bite the tip (unsuccessfully- she's been in an e-collar since the surgery). She's been on prednisolone...

The early days of treating Feline Hyperesthesia

Hello all! I have been lurking on this site for weeks now, so I thought I'd go ahead and join the conversation. It has been a doozy of a few weeks. My husband and I rescued Minnie in 2016 when she was about a year old. We picked her up off the street so we didn't have any information to go on...
