    Elderly cat rapid weight loss

It’s sad, but I am also strangely relieved. She was not herself the last month and the last 24 hrs was horrible in watching her struggle. Something I never want to do again and I emplore others not to wait so long. We buried her in our yard and I spent some time with her tonight. I keep...

    Elderly cat rapid weight loss

This is us. She is was doing relatively ok ( eating a lot , more socializing) but in a span of 24 hours she basically lost the ability to even stand up and was peeing on herself in the tub. She also stopped eating entirely. In hindsight we waited too long. That is my only real regret.

    Elderly cat rapid weight loss

I called the emergency vet today at 830 and by 9am she was there and her suffering was over. The cancer can’t hurt her anymore. It hurts that she is not here and I think I see her around every corner, but but it hurt more to see her suffer. Will post more later. I stayed up all night caring...

    Elderly cat rapid weight loss

Waiting another hour or so before I call the on call vet to try to fit her in. Very bitter sweet and a tough call to make.

    Elderly cat rapid weight loss

Thank you. She is laying in the tub in what seems to be a peaceful manner. Doesn’t really acknowledge me being here. She’s just spent. Not sure if I should spend the night with her in the dark or just leave her in peace. We spoke about it as a family and are going to call the local vet first...

    Elderly cat rapid weight loss

I just watched her try to stand and she went on her side. Nearest emergency vet is hours away.

    Elderly cat rapid weight loss

She has stopped eating and is very secluded. Walking is tough. Keeping her as comfortable as I can until Monday when the vet opens. Truthfully, I am hoping she passes before then.

    Elderly cat rapid weight loss

She is now peeing on the floor only. Weaker than 2 weeks ago. Started prednisone yesterday. Getting to be time.

    Thoughts on CBD?

I think that it is pretty rare to not second guess yourself when deciding on euthanasia. Your cat must be in a tough place for you to even consider it. I was once told that with euthanasia, you're saying that you'd rather take on the pain of the animal being gone, rather than the animal...

    Elderly cat rapid weight loss

Both litterboxes are essentially the same in size, shape and color. Both use the same litter. The cat walks past the letterbox to pee, so it's not a distance thing at all.

    Litter Box

Is she eating? As the others have said, something is almost surely wrong. If they're small turds, check to see if it is even coming out of her butt. You can try mirlax. With that said, something is going on and she should be seen by a vet.

    Krista's Care

You gave her an IMMENSE amount of care. Krista was so lucky to have had you and hit the jackpot with you as an owner. She would have been gone a long time ago with basically anyone else. You gave her so much "bonus" time.

When is it time to say goodbye?

My grandfather was 100 years old and one of my best friends. When he was very sick and there wasn't any hope, I sat by is hospital bed for days praying for him to die and his suffering to end. When he finally passed it was a relief. I think that the ability to end the suffering in our pets is...

    What a wonderful quote.

    Elderly cat rapid weight loss

So after a week of thyroid medicine, she is doing about the same. She is reclusive most of the day (where she was a very social cat in the past), but she doesn't appear to be in any pain, eats VERY well, and still enjoy sitting on the deck at night and catching and eating crickets that get too...

    Elderly cat rapid weight loss

My parents will be able to provide the same care that I am. The vet is going to start her on the dose and then we have to check in with them in I think 2 weeks. Other than making her comfortable now and spending time with her, our biggest concern is not waiting too long and we are keeping an...

    Elderly cat rapid weight loss

I adopted her 15 years ago from a very poor shelter, so one comfort that I have is that I feel like I've given her 15 wonderful years of life that she wouldn't have gotten. Every day is a gift.

    Elderly cat rapid weight loss

I got all of the tests back from the vet today. She has a VERY hyperactive thyroid. We're going to start her on medication tomorrow. We knew that she had a tumor in her belly, but I guess the white blood count is very high, indicating an infection (likely the tumor). Based on her age, it seems...

    Elderly cat rapid weight loss

She comes out to eat, and still likes to go outside on the deck for a few hours each day, but is pretty reclusive all other times (staying in the tub, or hiding in a back corner of the coffee table). She used to be a pretty social cat (sitting on the couch with people, always begging for food...

    Elderly cat rapid weight loss

She seems to be going downhill fairly quickly. She's urinated on the floor in the basement where she is staying a few times today, and hasn't seemed to have pooped much in the last 2 days or so. She's stayed in her "safe" spot under the coffee table pretty much all evening. Even a few nights...
