    Gardening 2020

The first harvest of the Summer. Everything is late because of the lockdown. I was very happy with these peppery radishes in a stir fry though. Outdoor Irish grown tomatoes. Here’s hoping we get enough sun for them to ripen!

    Post-Neutering Recovery

One might think I might know a thing or two about testicles given that I have them but it seems I either imagined the second testicle or confused his willy for one. In any event, Humphrey (or Little Bo Peep as we are now calling him) is recovering nicely from his surgery and will have his...

We call them Granny’s Bonnet around here. I like the flower tendrils that protrude from the back of the flower head. Very elegant. From seed! Brilliant. I have a little cluster planted with cacti. They shed their skins when they grow. Like a snake! My sweet corn, french beans and courgettes...

You Know You Care More About Your Cats Than About Yourself When . . .

....you remain in an awkward position on the sofa, suffering cramp and back ache so as not to move and wake the cats from your lap. ....you have started to feel lonely when you are the only one in the bathroom. ....you never really did like that antique, family heirloom, hand painted, fine...

    Gardening 2020

Lucky you! It’s almost impossible here without a greenhouse. I have one variety of sweet pepper (Marconi) coming up in a pot. Hopefully the sun will shine this Summer in Ireland! Here’s what I managed down at the allotment today. The lockdown overgrowth is slowly being cleared. I also planted...

    Gardening 2020

I’m late with everything because of the lockdown. My little city allotment has become overgrown as they were closed for the last while. I popped down today and this is what greeted me. But I cleared a small piece and planted the red and white swirl beetroot, coloured beets and radishes this...

How does your cat "talk" to you?

My two are pretty quiet. I get some eeps and peeps, a paw tap for attention, a miaow if they feel lost or overly ignored and miaows at feeding - one has a sweet I want food miaow, the other one has a long whiney “why is food taking so long” miaow. The nicest of all is when they climb on me, purr...

    Dirty Anus

I’ve had a few kitten and poop issues since I got the two boys some weeks ago. One of the boys curled his tail in such a way that he always pooped on it (that has now been outgrown), the other would try and cover for so long in the litter he would sometimes get it on himself (that has now been...

    Post-Neutering Recovery

Thank you amethyst. I checked him last night and the testicle has appeared! It is in a funny position in the scrotum - one in front of the other as opposed to two side by side. Hopefully it will stay in position and all he will have a regular neutering next Wednesday.

    Litter Box Behaviours

Just an update. The vet thinks there is nothing to be concerned about. He suggested that if the kitten is frequently urinating small amounts or attempting to go with no result, then we should act on it. As it is not a regular occurrence, the vet suggested that he may just have had an accident...

    Post-Neutering Recovery

Hi All, My two male kittens will be neutered next week (27th). One has an undescended testicle so his operation may be a little more invasive. I’m just wondering if there is anything I should be aware of in terms of recovery. Do cats tend to worry their stitches? Believe it or not, I’m only...

    The Positive Thread 2020

I really enjoy podcasts. I like listening while cooking dinner, lying on the sofa in the dead of night with a few candles and eyes closed and on my commute (before the lockdown that is). In fact, a major positive of the lockdown has been a change of attitudes to remote working. That is of course...

Furminator - does it cut hair?

Question of the Day, Sunday 17th of May, 2020

Any armchair not occupied by human or cat works for me. To relax though, it must have a side table to hold a pot of tea and my bits and pieces or else pencils and keys end up down the sides of the chair which is a nuisance 😃. If I’m lucky, I’ll get one by a window but the kittens have usually...
