2 Year Old Cat Suddenly Very Sick

Poppy is home! She was kept in the ICU for several days and given supportive care. But they got her well enough that I was able to bring her home and continue antibiotic treatment here. Her initial diagnosis was acute gastroenteritis with the possibility of IBD. She is able to eat again and...

2 Year Old Cat Suddenly Very Sick

As an update, Poppy took a turn last night. Her diarrhea was so frequent that she couldn't leave her litter box and laid down in it. The sight of food makes her gag. I am speaking with her vet this morning and will ask them to please hospitalize her as I am unable to give her the medications...

2 Year Old Cat Suddenly Very Sick

Thank you so much! I was able to get liquid compound of the anti-diarrheal and got that in her mouth tho she did foam a lot afterward. I’m hoping she will drink water or eat something soon... otherwise I’m afraid she will need to be hospitalized.

2 Year Old Cat Suddenly Very Sick

I'll look into a pill popper! She is somehow a ninja at escaping the cat purrito method (might speak to my wrapping abilities more than her agility)

2 Year Old Cat Suddenly Very Sick

So Poppy has some major fear-based aggression which makes it near impossible for the vet to examine her without sedation, but because she's so sick, I can't get gabepentin down ahead of time. They were unwilling to take her out of her carrier and sent us to the emergency vet... which makes me...

2 Year Old Cat Suddenly Very Sick

Hoping someone here can shed some insight or perhaps just offer empathy during this difficult time! My 2 year old cat Poppy started vomiting a week ago out of the blue and lost her appetite after not being able to keep down food. I took her to the vet who sent her to the emergency vet. They did...

    Bedtime Routine Resistance

Thank you for all of the advice! She is still going strong with her resistance but saving her last meal for bedtime has definitely helped.

    Bedtime Routine Resistance

Hello! My cat and I have just moved into an apartment with a roommate after previously living alone. For a variety of reasons, I’ve chosen to keep Poppy in my room at night with the door closed. The main reason being that my roommate comes and goes so often in the evening and Poppy is an escape...

    Traveling with newly adopted cat

@GoldyCat That's all wonderful advice - thank you! I have a soft sided carrier right now but it's too big to fit under the seat. I've ordered a Sturdi Paws carrier that had decent reviews on Amazon and seemed to fit the airline requirements and also has a tether inside the carrier so I can...

    Traveling with newly adopted cat

Hello! Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I am needing to go to stay with my parents for the next month or two. I recently adopted a 1 year old cat, Poppy, and I will need to bring her with me. I would have asked friends to watch her, but as I am currently in an epicenter for the virus, all of my...

    New Cat -- Worrisome Behavior

@Joan M - It's reassuring to hear that with patience and time, your cat started to trust you more! I do feel like perhaps her swatting does come from a place of play / curiosity. She only attacks when I'm moving, but she does seek me out when I'm doing things like typing on my laptop just to...

    New Cat -- Worrisome Behavior

@rubysmama I have been nervous to try as she is prone to biting and scratching and does not like her paws to be touched. I have considered trying to clip one or two nails while she is sleeping to see how it goes...

    New Cat -- Worrisome Behavior

@ArtNJ Bored cat watching my hands honestly could be what's happening here! I'm going to up the play time by a lot and will report back in a few days. Thank you so much for the tips!

    New Cat -- Worrisome Behavior

Thank you for working with me on this - cannot say how much I appreciate it! It usually happens like this - I will be either moving something, typing, brushing my hair etc. and she swiftly goes in for a bite or scratch. I cry out "ouch!" and she retreats and I immediately leave the room. She...

    New Cat -- Worrisome Behavior

Hello all - I wanted to circle back as it feels as if Poppy's behavior problems have only worsened. Now in addition to biting, she scratches whenever I am doing things in her vicinity. For example, today I was working on my laptop and she jumped onto the table and then bat/scratched my hand...

    New Cat -- Worrisome Behavior

@koolimy - It's nice to know that it gets better! I think Poppy definitely bites when she wants something, it never feels intentionally aggressive. I haven't thought about training her, to be quite honest, I didn't even realize that you could train cats. I'll look into it! Thank you for the tips...

    New Cat -- Worrisome Behavior

@rubysmama - Thank you for the reading! Finding TCS has been a life saver as a new cat mom! @ArtNJ - Ha! That's good to know. Thank you.

    New Cat -- Worrisome Behavior

@rubysmama - thank you, so good to know! And yes, that is little miss Poppy! I decided to close her in my bedroom while cooking for now which definitely gives me some peace of mind knowing she won't accidentally hop onto a hot stove. @ArtNJ - I will keep at it with encouraging her not to get...

    New Cat -- Worrisome Behavior

Thank you, @susanm9006! I have made sure to wash the wounds immediately after they happened and have been monitoring them. I appreciate the idea to get away from her biting trigger - I will try to incorporate that as well as the "ouch"/hiss methods.

    New Cat -- Worrisome Behavior

Thank you so much for the quick and helpful reply, @rubysmama! I will be sure to check out the links that you included. That makes sense about the lack of kitty manners - I never feel like her bites are out of aggression as she doesn't show any other signs like hissing, raised fur, or growling...
