A tentative update on Bowie and a question...
We haven't been able to see Bowie yet as they've kept him in quarantine, which leads me to speculate that his condition is worse than I thought. You can see his picture here on the shelter's Facebook page - Ohio SPCA & Humane Society - Just scroll...
Thanks guys, for all your support. I know I'm doing what's best for Bowie.
The latest update is that he's still in quarantine and will be till March 3rd. We called into the SPCA adoption center yesterday to check on his progress and we were not allowed to see him (because he's in quarantine)...
I know you're right, Jefferd18 and thanks for all your kind and informational comments. But you know, I sometimes second guess myself... Do I have the right to do this to him? To get him neutered? Does any human caregiver have the right to mutilate another sentient being just so it can conform...
Update on Bowie @ 22/02/2020 - We've just dropped Bowie off with the local SPCA Humane center who have agreed to take him in due to his injuries. He'll be in quarantine for 10 days then at some time after that, I'll be able to adopt him into our family of humans and cats and we'll just have to...
I started our kittens off on a mix of Stella & Chewy's raw and added tinned cooked chicken & turkey - not cat food, but human food. I prepared the raw then crumbled in the chicken or turkey, and this went well for a time but it was proving too expensive for us, being on a very limited budget so...
Thanks for your replies Lisahe and Azazel. I've managed to get our three cats on just wet food now, after some tantrums as they all consider dry food as "real" food and wet food as a poor substitute. The older cat used to eat just dry food for years apparently (He is my mother in law's cat) and...
I've never been a fan of dried cat food, but I saw bags of Blue Carnivera dried cat food in the pet store recently and they seemed to have an impressive list of ingredients with the protein sources made from raw foods. They do, however have a few questionable ingredients, like fava beans, flax...
Thanks for your support, tnrmakessense; I have to admit I was rattled by Shadows Rescue's remarks. It's not like I was proposing to give Bowie any old "human" medication... I'd done my research and due diligence and I had the skills and equipment to dispense proper and accurate doses of the...
We just give our cats turkey bacon or Canadian bacon, fed raw and cut up into small pieces. Far healthier than the junk the big brands sell and all our cats love their bacon... cheaper too than store bought cat treats and the plus is that you can eat it too! :)
Our three cats were addicted to Friskies Party Mix and we spent a small fortune getting it for them. They'd be begging for treats several times a day and you'd get no peace till you gave them some.
Then the older cat started being ill and refusing its food. I suspected the treats and kibble he...
According to this site https://americanhistory.si.edu/collections/search/object/nmah_717045 it was discontinued by the manufacturer in 2013. You'd still have been able to buy stock of it a little later than that. One commentor said that he called the company when he could no longer get in the...
Hi Jefferd18,
Does this by any chance go under a different name, as we've checked Walgreens (see attached screenshot) and they don't know what it is. We've even tried searching for it under its full chemical name of Bismuth Formic Iodine.
According to Answers.com, it used to be available at...
This is excellent advice... Thanks everyone; I can't imagine why I never thought of doing it myself! :)
I've been doing this with every dish I serve our 3 indoor cats (plus two outdoor "neighborhood" cats) for a couple of days now and they all eat their food more readily. One of our indoor cats...
We've looked online for this BFI powder but can't seem to find anyone who sells it. There are reviews on Amazon from several years ago and everyone raves about it. There is someone selling 1.25 oz of it for $400!!?? Perhaps the product has been discontinued now.
I'm pleased to report after only 3 days on the Cephalexin, Bowie is already showing signs of improvement with no side effects. His injured eye is looking better and he's not wheezing, snuffling and sneezing. I'll give him the full course; I want to make sure his chest infection is good & gone...
I was initially using Hydrogen Peroxide to clean his wound. He wasn't all too happy about it but he let me and wasn't aggressive. Ne even jumped up on the trashcan when I asked him to, so I could access it easier. If anything, I think he enjoyed the attention.
I also bought some styptic powder...
