How to teach cat to... not chew? (or, to eat mushy foods)

Thank you soooo much for putting all this together! This is an amazing resource, and it's definitely going to be helpful in the future. You're seriously the best. Wish me luck as I order all this and put it all together! (also, I'm sorry to hear about your grinder! That doesn't sound...

How to teach cat to... not chew? (or, to eat mushy foods)

I do have a few questions, actually! 1. Where do you source your eggshell Ca++? Or do you make it yourself? I see you can buy pure calcium carbonate on iherb, but I'm not sure how that compares. 2. Where did you buy most of your supplements? 3. The Vit B complexes all seem to be made of...

How to teach cat to... not chew? (or, to eat mushy foods)

I'm not opposed, I'm just not really sure about the Ca++ ratios, and I was scared to mess it up... How much Ca++ do you add to your boneless meats? And for that mix (4 eggs, 1 cup water) is that for around 5lbs of meat? I know the basics of that recipe but I just want to be sure.

How to teach cat to... not chew? (or, to eat mushy foods)

Maybe "gravy" is too intense of a word - it's just a watery liver-juice that forms at the end. But the alnutrin uses egg yolk powder, so I'm guessing that's where the difference is. A raw egg yolk would bind the meat together somewhat but the powder just sticks instead?

How to teach cat to... not chew? (or, to eat mushy foods)

They're reluctant to eat liver, so I grind the liver into a paste using a magic bullet, and I add the supplements to that. I've also done it with just water, with no luck. I know there's a way to "sprinkle on" the supplements, but I'm honestly not sure how that would work with the Alnutrin. Do...

How to teach cat to... not chew? (or, to eat mushy foods)

I've tried nuggets from Primal, patties from Vital Essentials and whatever the small things are from Smallbatch. They are a mushy texture and my cats don't want to eat them. If the mixture is chunked, the only guarantee that the cats are getting all vitamins and minerals necessary is by the...

How to teach cat to... not chew? (or, to eat mushy foods)

I feel like I have a new cat food problem every week lol So, my goals with cat food are to have it be complete/balanced, to not contribute to urinary/kidney diseases, for it to be digestible (because one of my cats has some issues with diarrhea) and for it to be reasonably affordable. And I am...

How to teach cat to chew?

Thank you so much for this advice! I tried very small pieces of gizzard (since that's what I had defrosted) and my "licker" cat has started to get the hang of it. I'm going to start them all on strips of boneless meat as well, to build up their jaw strength. Thank you so much everyone for your...

How to teach cat to chew?

Hi all, So I tried before to get my kittens on 100% raw food, and it never worked out. They hate anything that's mushy, cooked or raw, so I gave up temporarily just so I could get them to eat. After doing some research, I think it's worth giving prey model raw a try. Both of them love to chew...

    Very Picky Kitties...

Okay, I haven't given up quite yet. I'll try to do more mixing of canned food. The thing is, there isn't a canned (or wet food, really) that they both consistently like every day, so even that might fail, but... oh well. If I go through the rest of the meat (~4lbs total) while mixing it with...

    Very Picky Kitties...

I don't currently have FortiFlora, but someone has said parmesan cheese is kind of similar in flavor? I gave them a little bit of it alone and they ate it. I also have baby food lying around but he doesn't like that as much. Tonight I gave them half-canned half-alnutrin food, sprinkled with a...

    Very Picky Kitties...

I tried using a little kibble as a topper when they first refused to eat the alnutrin cooked. The first time I topped with kibble they ate about half of their (admittedly large) plates, the second time I topped with kibble they wouldn't touch it. I'll try topping it with some crumbled up...

    Very Picky Kitties...

Update 2: My alnutrin arrived. Followed the recipe for pork in the Cooked Recipes thread on this site. This is the same brand of ground pork from earlier, prepared in the same way (stovetop with a lid). He ate half of it, she licked the sauce and ate a tiny bit, but walked away from it. I...

    Very Picky Kitties...

Update: Did experiment 2. (Never imagined my science degrees would be useful here...) Cooked the ground pork, gave them a bit. Both ate it, with slightly less enthusiasm than raw ground pork. A good sign. Froze the cooked pork, and gave it to them again a few hours later. Both ate it, her with...

    Kitten Yowling

Of course! Here's both of them. His favorite game this morning was playing with a basket, and her favorite game this morning was getting in his way...

    Very Picky Kitties...

Yep, it was fresh, not frozen. Unfortunately the nearest butcher is 35-45 minutes away, and I really don't want to make that trip more than once a month at most. So freezing it is the only practical way to feed that. But I can't feed grocery store ground meat (at least, not confidently) and I...

    Very Picky Kitties...

Thanks for the reply! I offered them a chunk of raw beef today - they looked at me like I was crazy. So I think they're ground-meat kitties. But that's okay, I brush their teeth anyway. They actually dislike frozen raw more than the freeze dried stuff, which honestly surprised me. She'll give...

    Very Picky Kitties...

This is really interesting! Everyone always recommends food that's frozen immediately after grinding/processing, so I thought the specified pet food would be fresher... guess not. As a little experiment, I went to the grocery store and got some ground pork and intact beef. I planned on cooking...

    Very Picky Kitties...

Hi everyone! Long post incoming, apologies in advance. So, before I even got a cat I knew I'd be feeding them raw or homecooked food. I ended up with 2 kittens, and I thought great, they're young so they should be easy to transition to raw food! :headshake: They are the pickiest kittens I...
