    Eosinophilic granuloma complex - Desperate

My cat has this somewhat… and allergies. He just overgrooms himself and irritates the skin. It flares up and gets better and flares up again. We have done pred daily, now tapered down to 1 every other day. It works and then it doesn’t work. I think I will stop giving that to him and try...

Cat Hasn’t Eaten in 4 Days

Try something smelly like sardines or tuna? If you were to syringe feed him wet food, would he vomit it back up? One of my cats had a problem vomiting recently which was out of character for him. A minute or two after eating he would vomit everything up. We thought it might be a foreign body...

    Non-stop vomiting

I apologize my post is long. I am distraught because my 7-8 month old cat has been vomiting since Wednesday night and it hasn’t resolved. I brought him to vet #1 thursday for cerenia injection and subq fluids. My cat wants to eat but kept gagging and retching. Then Friday morning I saw more...

    Buying litter at the store

We shop at Costco for our cat litter (Scoop Away), and the past couple times we went they have been out. We even tried multiple locations. So today when we went and saw the litter in stock, we bought 10 packs. My husband and I only go to Costco maybe twice a month if we have time. Normally we...

Crating a kitten for 8 weeks

I did have to crate my cat for 3 weeks when she injured her knee. The vet said it’s either crate rest or surgery so we wanted to try that first. I think she was around 7 months old at the time. Of course she hated it and made a mess inside, but luckily her leg was okay afterwards.

    Erroneous blood work....anyone else?

I did not have a wonky blood test, but we did a felv/fiv test and later they told me the tech “made an error” and had to redo the test (after they already gave my cat the felv vaccine without checking results first!). So I took her home and later the vet called saying she was positive for...

Any ideas for getting a single cat to lose 2/3 lbs in a seven household?

We bought microchip feeders for all our cats and portion their food, feeding twice a day. There are some of our cats who have to be separated from the cat who gets an endless portion (because he doesn’t eat enough). The food hogs will crowd him when he tries to eat and pull food out of his...

    Mirtazapine side effects 🙄

When my cat was not eating enough and on mirtaz there was a point I would sit in a small room with him, add some water to the pate wet food, and use an oral syringe to feed him. He didn’t like it and avoided me but he was getting the calories.

    FeLV odds for young kitten?

I would wait before introducing because I read that felv/fiv can take 60 days since exposure for it to show positive. But even then with kittens their maternal antibodies can hide it. And felv can lay dormant in the bone marrow and show up years later. So you never know until you know I guess...

    What is this color called?

Thank you for the info. 🙂 Her feet are white except for the back legs, which has some diluted color. I added a pic. Sorry for the messy cage, I was working long hours the past 2 days. She has an appointment tomorrow to get flea treatment, fvrcp, felv/fiv test before I move her to a small...

    What is this color called?

How would the color of this kitty be described? She has a striped tail and light blue/gray eyes. The front paws are white, I forgot what color the hind feet are. She has a good temperament so far, a bit cautious but purring and meowing, and she enjoys pets. She came from a barn colony but seems...

Warning for those of you that adopt or rescue a shelter cat

I’m so sorry… That is my worst fear. I did not know much about felv/fiv when I started adopting cats. I had them all tested but did not know about the long period before it can show a positive result, and the possibility for the maternal antibodies hiding the infection in a kitten, etc. So I had...

Kitten has grey poop / eye issues

Are you able to have a fecal test done at the vet? The last two kittens I brought inside were infected with giardia and had a grey/green tint to their poop. They did 3 rounds of meds and I’m still not 100% sure it’s clear. It’s hard to get rid of

Feral missing eye and expensive surgery

Hi again, so she brought him to the vet she trusts in a far away city. But I guess the vet told her he’s not in pain and doesn’t need anything for the eye. She told me she tried to insist they stitch up the eye or something, and they said it’s really not necessary. So he only got neutered today...

Feral missing eye and expensive surgery

Thank you everyone. I posted to the rescue networking group and a very sweet lady local to me has contacted a vet and is willing to take him to get the surgery and neutered. And she will hold him for the aftercare until he is well. I guess she said she will post the bill online afterwards to...

Feral missing eye and expensive surgery

Yeah, we’re not planning to keep or adopt him. He’s not friendly. I have 8 indoor cats already, including 4 rescued feral kittens from outside. I just don’t have the money to cover this. We spent at least 1500 out of our pocket on an injured feral bitten by a dog recently, with a 700 extra bill...

Feral missing eye and expensive surgery

We caught this feral the other week for TNR and immediately noticed a problem with his eye. He is missing his eye ball but the socket is still open. The eye doesn’t look infected, just the eye ball is not there or visible. I made an appointment at a local low cost vet to get his opinion and he...

    Giardia treatment & bath

I have rescued 2 kittens from outside with giardia. They were diagnosed around 2 months of age and received meds, and at age 4.5 months right now the female is confirmed positive again. The vet gave me metronidazole for her and panacur this time, but he wouldn’t give me panacur for the boy...

    Kitten spay - lump

I was able to have the vet who spayed her do a re-check today. He said it’s seroma / fluid build-up that should go down within a few weeks. He thinks it’s not too big now so she doesn’t need to have it drained, unless it gets bigger. He doesn’t think it’s a hernia. He was really grabbing the...

    Kitten spay - lump

I’ve been trying to call as soon as they open but they will not answer the phone…really frustrating. All the smaller vets around here are like this and always busy. I called the main vet I go to and they don’t have appointments either but can see her as a drop-off tomorrow if I leave her there...
