What is normal after spay surgery?

Final update (hopefully)! The stitches are finally out! Yesterday she started grooming herself, which means she also found her stitches and started pulling them out. 5 out of 6 to be exact. :) So there wasn't much left for the vet to do. The wound healed really well and the chance of anything...

What is normal after spay surgery?

Thank you, that was both helpful and quite amusing. :) The butter thing sounds promising, I'll keep that in mind. She did decide to wash herself a little bit - not long after we put betadine on her incision, so of course she managed to lick most of it off. 🤦‍♀️

What is normal after spay surgery?

Also, as a side note: She hasn't been grooming herself much since the surgery. The good part about that is that she's been less tempted to lick her incision, the bad part is that, well... she's starting to get a little stinky. :) I can see her mouth watering at times when she would normally give...

What is normal after spay surgery?

Thank you both. :) When she was little, people used to joke about how she looked like an ugly duckling... I guess she did end up turning into a beautiful swan. :P She's quite long and lanky, but weight-wise she's in the normal range for her age. I expect her to "fill up" as she grows. :) @cat...

What is normal after spay surgery?

@cat nap Thank you! Initially the plan was to get a boy and call him Odin, but since she ended up being a girl I thought I should stick with something related to Norse mythology. ;) And I feel you on the big baby part, I'm exactly the same. Although I do hate it when they give me antibiotics for...

What is normal after spay surgery?

I agree, shots are rarely pleasant so I understand her discomfort. :) Especially since she probably doesn't understand what's happening to her. I've decided to be a bit more bossy about the carrier today and I just picked her up and put her in. I expect her to get over her fear of the carrier...

What is normal after spay surgery?

Thank you! Kitty had an actual proper wet food meal this morning, as if nothing ever happened, and a decent serving of kibble after we came back from the vet. I'm not sure what the shot was but she wanted to give her another one today and I asked her not to, lol. Her fever is gone and I have to...

What is normal after spay surgery?

Another update: I ended up taking kitty back to the vet since she wasn't eating again. She has a mild fever but otherwise she's fine. They gave her 3 shots (one for the fever, an antibiotic and an "energizer"). She was (hyper)active for a bit and now she's back to sleeping. I'm supposed to take...

What is normal after spay surgery?

She had some more chicken to eat and I managed to crush the pill and sprinkle it on top. Apparently the pill is flavored so it shouldn't taste too bad. She didn't quite eat all of it but at least most of it is in her system. She also drank a lot of water afterwards. I'm so proud of her :D

What is normal after spay surgery?

Update: My mom boiled some chicken breast and asked if I wanted to try to give kitty some. Since she didn't want to eat her food or even treats I was skeptical it would work but I decided to try anyway. And she ate it! I gave her a small portion and I'll boil some more for later. Yay :)

What is normal after spay surgery?

I've been as fast as I can, I admit I'm quite inexperienced since I've never had to pill a cat before. Once I get it into her mouth she just stares at me and refuses to swallow. I've tried rubbing her chin/neck, blowing on her nose etc. She just won't do it. So yes, smart and feisty is right...

What is normal after spay surgery?

Hi again. Kitty is doing better, this morning she followed me to the kitchen and chilled with me for a bit. She even started yapping at a fly :) She's had the tiniest bit of food and water, I guess it's a start. She's walking a lot better and seems to be in a lot less pain. I think the blue...

What is normal after spay surgery?

I feel like she's slowly getting better, she seems a lot more aware and she's walking a bit better than before. Earlier she even purred and talked to me a little. I just wish she would eat a little bit, I think it would help her recovery a lot :( Plus I'm supposed to give her antibiotics...

What is normal after spay surgery?

This is the best picture I could take of her incision. I have no idea what it's supposed to look like. What do you think? (24h or less since surgery)

What is normal after spay surgery?

From the general look of her last night I doubt they gave her anything to reverse the anaesthetic. I guess on the bright side her being all drowsy means she's less likely to run around and hurt herself/tear open her stitches? I'll keep an eye on her and keep you posted. Hopefully I'll manage to...

What is normal after spay surgery?

They did warn me yesterday when I picked her up that she might not want to eat today either so I assume they must have given her something pretty strong. I also forgot to mention that yesterday she could barely open her eyes whereas today she can open them & look around just fine. Also her...

What is normal after spay surgery?

Hi all. My 6 month old kitten got spayed yesterday (I left her at the clinic at 9 am, picked her up at 5 pm, I'm not sure at what time the surgery actually took place. It's currently 9 am the following day). When I brought her home she was wobbly for a bit but now she can walk in a straight...

    Mealtime Quirk

Hey everyone. So about a month ago I changed my 4 month old kitten's wet food and shortly after that she started not wanting to eat unless I'm next to her keeping her company. Sometimes she'll even stop eating and she'll come ask for pets and go back to her bowl. The strange thing is, she only...

Does A Twitchy Back Always Mean Fhs?

An update just in case someone ends up reading this in the future: Kitty's back still only twitches when playing or otherwise excited. No other symptoms have occurred (hallucinations, self-harm etc.) and all other behavior is normal. I guess it's just a thing that can happen :)

Does A Twitchy Back Always Mean Fhs?

Thank you all, I feel a lot less worried now. I'm still gonna keep an eye on her and make sure I tell her vet about it if any other symptoms show up :)
