    Advice Related To Relocation

UPDATE: I am scheduled to close on a house here in a couple of weeks. Ambrose has been spending more time around another apartment--they have let him inside when it gets particularly nasty out although they're not able to keep him inside full-time. As for the other three, a new neighbor moved in...

How Do I Stop My Cat From Begging For Human Food.

Hiss and growl at him, then put him on the floor. That's catspeak for 'no.'

I Have An Irrational Aversion To Leaving My Cat Alone At Home.

Even though both of my cats are chipped, they also both have collars with id tags on them that they wear at all times. Not everyone thinks to check cats for chips--if they see a cat out and about, people just tend to assume they're strays. Seeing a collar is a visible statement that the cat has...

Can An Older Kitten Adopt Young Kitten?

Only if the older kitten's ears are laid back and blood is being drawn. I have a 1 year old and a 5 month old--when Leo first came in he was barely 3 months and Angus was nearly ten months. Angus was a good 9 lbs where Leo was not even 5 pounds at first. Angus immediately started grooming and...

    Baby Teeth

I think these were a fluke. I found tapeworms coming out of Angus' butt so I got meds for both Angus and Leo to take. Angus gulped his pill pockets with the meds inside down with no problem. Leo ate the pill pocket without touching the pill TWICE :argh: so I had to give him his pill the old...

    Advice Related To Relocation

My problem is that the toms are both territorial bullies. For the most part they treat the patio as neutral, but I have to put one dish just outside the patio entrance so that one of them can eat in the feeding station while one eats outside of the Hobo Cat city limits. Bringing Ambrose inside...

    Advice Related To Relocation

Warning: very long post. Because of increasing rent, I've been looking to buy a house. Here's the problem: I have a small colony of two males and two females who live around my apartment. I have a couple of shelters and a feeding station and they're accustomed to my putting wet food out twice a...

    Baby Teeth

I found a couple of Leo's baby teeth in the last couple of days. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with them, but they're so tiny.

New Cat/resident Cat Getting Along Better But.......

I'm not sure it would work, but I've had success with 'time-outs.' When Angus misbehaves in some way, I warn him or distract him and if he goes right back to what I don't want him doing, I shut him in the bathroom for a few minutes. It sometimes takes a couple of visits to the bathroom, but he...

My Cats Energy Has Went Down, Please Help

I was just about to suggest that the cat might be bored with the games and toys. There's an article here I read (I think Furballsmom posted it for me at one point) that talks about the importance of rotating toys/games to prevent the cat from getting bored. As long as you've already ruled out...

New Arm and Hammer Clump & Seal litter

I'm actually in the middle of doing just that. I had been using Arm & Hammer Clump and Seal for multi-cat households (not the Clump, Seal and Slide--just clump and seal in the black box). Well, Walmart didn't have any of that particular brand and Fresh Step low tracking litter was on sale. Since...

My Cat Keeps Biting Me (but Not Hard)

If there's a particular treat he likes, you could try 'making nice' by offering the treat or if he likes being scratched, just spend some extra time making him feel good. You could also try meat flavored baby food as a special treat that he only gets after grooming--I used meat flavored baby...

My Cat Keeps Biting Me (but Not Hard)

If he't not breaking the skin, then I'd say he's not trying to hurt you. He might have just been unsettled by the vet visit and is trying to re-establish a sense of ownership/dominance? I know it's inaccurate to ascribe human emotions to animal behavior, but you violated him and now he's trying...

    Quick Question About Tapeworms

Thanks, I'm still not sure how they ended up with them since they've both been on Revolution (Angus for six months and Leo for 2 months now), but they've both now been dosed with Droncit and neither of them showed any symptoms. If I hadn't seen a piece of white in the fur near Angus' butt and...

    Quick Question About Tapeworms

I don't know how, since both of my guys are on Revolution and only go out on a leash, but I found a tapeworm near Angus' butt. I've already called the vet and am picking up a prescription to treat both Angus and Leo. My question is the litter boxes. I'm assuming that a complete change of the...

Newly Adopted Cat Now Showing New Behaviors 2 Months In.

Have you considered a puzzle feeder? There are a variety out there, I'm looking at them for my two (researching) right now so I can't help with any recommendations beyond giving her an activity and access to food that she can't just gobble down.

    Terrible Behavior

It sounds like she's a high energy cat and is bored. Sometimes cats (kids, men, dogs, other animals ;)) develop bad habits because people around them reinforce negative behavior. What's cute from a kitten or two year old isn't so cute as they get bigger. There are ways to train cats away from...

    Help!!

I had read that it was bad for the septic system and pipes to flush clumps from the litter box. Or is that only for clumping/certain types of litter? I put the clumps in a plastic bag (those store bags are good for something) and take it to the dumpster every day.
