How Do I Condition A Skittish Male Kitten To Be More Trusting?

I'm so sorry for your troubles with your kitty, and glad that she is coming around. I hope the same for Artemis! I will certainly take everyone's wonderful advice and let him dictate what he wants...the kitties seem to do that anyway! :)

How Do I Condition A Skittish Male Kitten To Be More Trusting?

Yes, I thought that was strange advice too which is why after trying it and noticing that it seemed to do nothing but promote stress (especially in Artemis) I stopped and used the "let them come to me" method. Lately, since I returned from my trip, (I was gone for nine days) Artemis has been a...

How Do I Condition A Skittish Male Kitten To Be More Trusting?

The breeder told me that Luna was very shy and that Artemis was more outgoing. And that's how it was initially. Gradually Luna became more outgoing (I call her "Luna the Warrior Princess") and Artemis became more fearful and timid. I haven't talked to her in a while. The parents were both very...

How Do I Condition A Skittish Male Kitten To Be More Trusting?

Yes, I think I will just ignore him. I was just concerned that he would feel "left out", especially because Luna gets so much attention. For a while, I thought he was jealous until I tried to reach out to him to pet and he ran away. So I guess that's not it. Do cats get jealous like that, or is...

How Do I Condition A Skittish Male Kitten To Be More Trusting?

Thank you so much! I had started reading the last article, but the other ones should help as well. It's weird because Artemis used to be more outgoing while Luna was reserved. Now, Luna is cuddly whereas Artemis is now afraid of life. I will keep working on it while also giving him his space. :)

How Do I Condition A Skittish Male Kitten To Be More Trusting?

At this point, I'm sure everyone on this forum knows me as the "nervous first-time cat-mom", but I have another issue I'm hoping to get advice on. As you might know from previous posts, I have two Siamese kittens that are six months old, female and male littermates. At first, the Artemis, the...

Help, My Kitten Is Hissing/growling After His Littermate Came Back From Vet (& Other Complications)

Funny story - Artemis LOVES food and LOVES his pet carrier - when I don't need him in it, that is. He actually sleeps in his carrier (I call it his cabana because it is large and covered with fabric over a frame), and considers it a great place to hide out. The kitties still spar, but not...

Help, My Kitten Is Hissing/growling After His Littermate Came Back From Vet (& Other Complications)

This is great, thank you! The only issue is, my bathroom has a washer and a dryer. Because of mandates, we needed a special filter for energy efficiency so they are away from the wall which gives kitties even more space to squeeze behind them. I don't even allow them in there too much for that...

Help, My Kitten Is Hissing/growling After His Littermate Came Back From Vet (& Other Complications)

This is good to know for the future. In the end, time was the answer. Now they are back together with no problems. I really liked the breeder, it was the vet who suggested that perhaps they were not ideally socialized. Seeing Luna behaving so affectionately now, I'm not sure that's the case...

Help, My Kitten Is Hissing/growling After His Littermate Came Back From Vet (& Other Complications)

This is awesome, thank you! I'm especially excited about the last one, still trying to get Artemis to be more affectionate and less skittish, so I'll check it out. :)

Help, My Kitten Is Hissing/growling After His Littermate Came Back From Vet (& Other Complications)

Funny you say this. I started working on "socializing" Luna a month ago. Then, she was reluctant to be held, and would only let me hold her for very short periods of time - 30 seconds, 1 minute, at the most. I went away to visit family with both her and Artemis and while I was there, worked to...

Help, My Kitten Is Hissing/growling After His Littermate Came Back From Vet (& Other Complications)

Thank you! After keeping them away from each other for about a week and a half, everything was fine again and they are now getting along. I did finally catch Artemis, but he's still weird and I'm posting a separate question about how to socialize him better. Luna is the loveable one!

Help, My Kitten Is Hissing/growling After His Littermate Came Back From Vet (& Other Complications)

Hello again, I've written on this board quite a bit, and quite frankly, I'm frustrated, concerned, and confused over the behavior of my littermate Siamese kittens, and I'm hoping someone can help advise. As some of you may know, I am the owner of 5-month-old Siamese, Luna, a female seal point...

When Do Cats Start Meowing At Humans?

I've read that too, so I'm somewhat disappointed that this hasn't been my experience. They only meow at each other still, even after weeks of trying to engage and talk with them. And now I have a male kitten who is growling/hissing at everyone (even his sister, whom he adores) which I'm sure...

When Do Cats Start Meowing At Humans?

I'm still waiting for this wonderful moment, as I said to susanm, the male is now growling/hissing at everyone which just hampers any progress that might have been made. I think part of it is that they weren't socialized as well. It's rather frustrating but I keep holding on and trying hoping it...
