Should we install a cat flap?

Hi Everyone, Thanks so much for the replies! I'm sorry I haven't been back to check - it's one of those things I only remember to do when I'm not at the computer! It looks like we'll give it a try based on your advice. Our cat isn't a particularly good hunter (she has caught some small...

Should we install a cat flap?

My husband and I just bought a new house that has an actual wooden back door that we could put a cat flap into! Is there any reason why we shouldn't? We would definitely get the kind that only she can go through (magnetic or infra-red??? Not sure about that...) My mom thinks that Tabby will...

    Cat trees and building them...

My dad helped me build one for my cat with leftover wood and a carpet remnant. It really was no problem and cost us about $12 for the remnant and nothing for leftover wood. It's a simple one with only 2 levels but she loves it. Here's a photo: http://www.meganmcdermott.com/photos...g2_itemId=1259

Oh, the hissing (problems with aggression)

Now that it's springtime, I've been letting Tabby go outside again (on her leash - we live in an apartment building). The neighbours both have cats - the one side has two older, and larger cats who stay inside but sometimes come to the door. On the other side there's a younger cat - probably...

    Ideas for new cat polls

Tabby likes to be in the car as long as she doesn't have to stay in her carrying case. She likes to look out the window. She just doesn't like the process of getting into and out of the car ('cause I live in an apartment building with a busy parking lot). My ex-roommates cats were the same...

    Ideas for new cat polls

How about: Does your cat prefer horiztonal or vertical scratching? Is your cat a picky eater? Is your cat a picky drinker? Is your cat purebred/part breed/mixed? How old is your cat? Does your cat have a cat page? (Bonus: if no, why not?) LOL

Scratch n play - highly recommended

I forget if it's called scratch N Play or Scratch N Pad. Anyway, I have to say that this is the best thing (besides food & litter) that I ever bought for Tabby. It's a plastic circle with a roll of corrigated cardboard in the middle (for scratching), and a ball that rolls around the outside...

    New Kitten Blues

Barn cats tend to be especially skittish I think. My dad has a whole ton of cats at his farm but few of them are brave enough to get close to people. The people move the machinery which is very dangerous to them. Most of the friendly ones end up getting run over or otherwise mutilated by farm...

How much do you pay for spaying and neutering?

I can't get that article to come up from the main page - the link just takes me to a page of books. I also can't find any resources about low cost clinics in Canada...

How much do you pay for spaying and neutering?

Is anyone else here in Canada? I paid $150 (Canadian) for tabby to get spayed a the vets! Plus another $50 in vet exams at the same time. I should really call around and find out if there's any low cost clinics around here - as I've said, the only thing that's prohibiting me from getting...

    Cat Behavior

Debby - cost of getting a cat is no problem (my dad has 15 or 16 down at the barn, and I'd love to rescue one of them!), it's the vet bills. I've already had to spend about $400 or so just for Tabby's shots and spaying and associated vet costs.

    2 kittens better than 1?

This thread makes me sad . I wish Tabby had another cat to play with but I haven't had the time and money to spend on another one. I actually called about one last night when I saw an ad in my building, but he wasn't fixed and I do not want to pay another couple hundred bucks for a fixing...

    Cat Behavior

Yeah, sometimes when I'm just approaching my apartment door after getting home from work I can hear Tabby crying for me inside (especially if I'm a little late - she knows when it's time for me to get home!). Then we have a nice cuddle for a bit once I'm inside. Unfortunately I don't have the...

    Soft paws???

Covering things with plastic also helps - i got some rolled up clear plastic and just stuck it over top of the corners of my couch - my cat won't touch it! Now I have to get her to quit scratching the carpet and start using her scratching "kitty condo" thingy (which she doesn't seem to like too...

What's the weather like where you live?

Hey, I think that we Canadians are poor-er, right Harriet? I'm quite close to you - in Kitchener. I think we get a more snow here than in Toronto though, becasue Kitchener is in the "snow belt" that goes roughly through London, Woodstock, Kitchener and then down to Niagara. It seems like...

    Outdoors/indoors dilemma - poll results

I'm one of the "outdoors/indoors" owners - I just let tabby out on her leash in the summer time. She loves it out there - chasing bugs and climbing trees if she can get near one! The problem is that she's always getting herself tangled around lawn chairs and picnic tables and stuff.

    How was your Christmas?

If you read my thread in the behavior section you'll probably know that I brought Tabby home to my parents place for 5 days. She was a brat! Hissing at everyone! And she got on the dining room table and wouldn't get off - a good vantage point there I guess. She sort of calmed down after a...

    I'm an inexperienced kitty owner

I have the same problem with my kitten (well, she's not such a kitten anymore , 9 months!) thinking my hand is a chew toy. Nothing I've tried has helped with this. I can put my hand out of reach, but she still keeps trying to go after it. I also have the problem with her trying to escape...
