It could be irismelanosis which is usually just benign dark pigmentation of the iris. I would send a pic to your vet and ask if they want to see your cat to take a better look. Follow up with a phone call to make sure they receive the pic and give it to your vet.
Here is an article about it...
Search Results for Query: irismelanosis
Search Results for Query: eosinophilic keratitis
Both conditions have come up on TCS and there may be some helpful information there.
UPDATE: I took Harley to an opthamologist 3 weeks ago and received a troubling diagnosis. He has TWO eye diseases, irismelanosis AND Eosinophilic keratitus OU. We are now using steroid eyedrops and antiviral eyedrops twice a day. Everything I read concerning a prognosis is negative. Has anyone...
Theres melanoma and melanosis, they sound the same but are quite different. Melanosis is non cancerous pigmantation of the iris.
Melanoma is cancer, related to the skin cancer by the same name and like it, extremly agressive.
...we're pretty sure. Reaching out to to a vet but... does this look like anything anyone has seen? It doesn't seem to resemble feline irismelanosis... from the pictures I'm seeing online.
I see people in forums here talking about little freckles on the iris coming on over the course of many...
Hi. Sorry no one has responded to your post yet! I searched this site for similar cases and didn't really find much. There is an article I ran across about spots in cats' eyes, and it seems less like freckles and more like melanosis, but there is no way to know for sure without a vet taking a...
My cat Coco's face is very similar to your cats except her eyes change green to brown. Her fur is mostly brown but sometimes looks grey. I have never seen dark grey irises. My vet turned off the lights and used a special light to look in her eyes. Hope your cat is ok!
My cat has developed a spot in his lower left eye. It hasn't gotten noticeably bigger since I noticed it about a month ago and doesn't seem to bother him. We have a vet appointment in a couple of weeks, but was wondering if anyone else has seen this in their cats?
Do you have a pic you can post? We aren't vet who can diagnose, but it would still be helpful. You are doing the right thing to take him to the vet though. If it were to be irismelanosis, which is benign, you still want it treated.
...seeing a feline ophthalmologist but he is unfortunately a *very* bad patient. We tried taking him to one years ago for a spot of irismelanosis in the other eye and he scratched the vet quite badly, so he would almost certainly need some kind of anesthesia to be seen. But he has chronic...
Timothy will be 15 in October. So not old, but a senior kitty.
He's had elbow arthritis (pretty destroyed) for quite some time, probably since we adopted him. He weighed 23.4lbs when we adopted him and is now a pretty healthy weight (we did start feeding Hill's oral care and both cats have...
...I put in a call to the vet, and looked online to see if we could match it with anything, and the one thing that it MAY be is irismelanosis, but we're not quite sure. He isn't after it nor in any pain, but I want to help him if needed. He is due for his checkup and grooming on 4/20, but I'll...
...answer back then. I’d recommend reading the original post, but, to summarize what @di and bob said, a spot like this is most likely irismelanosis, which is harmless. Keep an eye on it, though, and definitely bring it up at her next vet appointment. Of course, you could also email that...
It's a good thing you're taking him in to see the Vet. This could be IrisMelanosis, sometimes called Eye Freckles, OR Iris Melanoma. Your Vet may send you to an animal opthamologist for further testing. Hope for Eye Freckle rather than the other :crossfingers: That's probably what it is...much...
The most brown that a cat's eyes will get is copper, not the color of this girl. One more issue to put on the table is melanosis. It is caused by melanin and will cause the iris to turn brown and can move into malignant melanoma. I am also surprised that the vet said nothing about her eye color...
IrisMelanosis is common in older cats, caused by exposure to UV rays in sunlight. If you could minimize her outdoor exposure that might help. Monitoring is usually indicated, it may just stay benign forever. I had one cat that developed this and his never did get malignant, though it did spread...
My first thought was "benign irismelanosis," but looking closer, my second thought is, "HUH?" I'm lost, but since it doesn't bother her in the least, and she is obviously a happy, well-cared for cat who could not care less about it, I'll have to chalk it up to the second choice!
...see if its growing or not. So I did, and it has definitely grown, and is now reaching the border of her iris.
I'd say iris melanoma/irismelanosis but it's not directly on her iris, it's on her third eyelid. But it looks exactly like how that condition looks, just on the third eyelid instead...
