That's great to hear that even though your own cat was older, he still made friends with the new addition! That's so wonderful that you adopted a 14 year old. What a happy ending!
Can I ask if the cats who passed away were also female? As we think about adding a cat or kitten to our house, I'm...
We had a pair of cats who were deeply in love with each other (see photos). Last year, at age 13, one of them died, leaving our 10 year old cat as an only cat. She has been doing fine. We are ready to adopt again.
I'm curious to hear others' experiences: what are the odds that a...
@Meowmee The videos are great! I wish I'd found them earlier in this whole process. Even the video with the woman who saved 7 kittens on her own at home got antibiotics and antiemetics from a vet, and I don't know if the foster group I was working with would have paid for that. But that would be...
Nilo's story is, indeed, incredible! I read through the link you posted. She worked unbelievably hard to save those kittens!!! But based on her updates, those kittens also got a ton of veterinary care: antibiotics, blood tests, many many medications and vitamins. The veterinary care she got them...
This definitely was not a question of disability, simply a question of whether exposure means that 100% of them will die without treatment, or only 98% (or some other number less than 100%). The many vets I talked to seem to think it's close to 100% and pretty universally believe kittens should...
@Adelei That's an amazing story! The kittens who survived, did they get treatment like IV fluids, antibiotics, etc, or did they just get through it on their own?
Sadly, there is no funding to pay for medical care for formerly feral foster kittens. They either stay well, or if they get sick they die (or get euthanized). 😭
@Furballsmom and @fionasmom: The vet says to euthanize all of them. The rescue group is supportive of my decision on this. I have a hard time making that judgment for especially for the one kitten who appears to be most vigorously healthy -- big appetite, gaining weight, playful. Google offers...
When I had three with differing needs, I had to sit on the floor between them for every meal, and either block one cat from eating the others' food, or lock that cat out of the room until the others finished. Alternatively, you could feed them in different rooms with doors closed, and then...
I have a very sad situation on my hands: a litter of 6 week old foster kittens who seem to have panleukopenia.
I know that panleuk is EXTREMELY contagious, I know it's almost always fatal (half the litter has already died), and I understand that our home will be unsafe for unvaccinated...
I'm fostering a litter of kittens that were trapped and separated from a feral mama at about 5-6 weeks. (Not my decision -- it is a TNR group. It does seem that some sources recommend this approach as the best way to socialize feral kittens.) They were eating solid food very well when they were...
I'm fostering a litter of kittens for a feral rescue group that primarily does TNR, but caught this litter to be socialized. This kitten looks to be about 7 weeks old now, has been with me for a week. Most of the kittens are doing great, but one isn't eating and is, of course, losing weight...
Oops -- cat sent the message! She is having diarrhea in the litterbox, but I figure that's not surprising given huge changes in her diet and living situation (trapper's home in a cage with other cats in cages for a few days, and now a quiet room my home).
Hi! I recently took in a pregnant foster cat. She was a stray and is skin and bones, super skinny except for her belly. The estimate I've been given is that she will probably give birth in 2-3 weeks. She has a vet appointment a few days from now.
My question is, how best to feed her? I...
We took in a stray about 5 weeks ago, got him neutered, vaccinated, tested for FIV/FeLV, etc. Once we knew he was healthy, we began to try to do a very slow, careful introduction to our resident cat, following the advice in several cat behavior books, trading scents between the cats, etc.
For...
