Advice for 4 Month Rabies Quarantine

Alright so things are moving forward but slowly. Our local animal control shelter/adoption center is not taking anyone right now because they don't have a vet. They were the main resource for TNR in my city and surrounding towns so this is terrible news. They are going to see if we can get him...

Advice for 4 Month Rabies Quarantine

Hey everyone! It's been a while but I feel like I owe this thread a positive update. He has been back for the past 2 weeks. He has a meal schedule and sleeps most of the day in our yard. I haven't restarted the trapping process because I'm concerned I'll scare him off, but it will definitely...

Should I bring the stray to vet?

I know you're considering putting her back outside after she has kittens, but since she's friendly you could always adopt her out. An odd number of kittens is great because everyone can be adopted in pairs. When I took in my pregnant stray she had 5 kittens. Mama went to a home with one of her...

What to do with friendly stray?

Update - She was chipped and has been reunited with her owner! They were missing her for 9 days. To the people who commented, thank you for reassuring me that I was doing the right thing. I'm so happy I took her in.

What to do with friendly stray?

Sorry, I think there was a miscommunication. The cat is already inside.

What to do with friendly stray?

She definitely wants in. I have two cats of my own so she does need to be confined and she is a little stressed when left alone in the room. She's been crying and wanting to get out when I'm not in there with her. But I'm sure she'll warm up.

What to do with friendly stray?

I haven't ever used nextdoor but that's a good idea!

What to do with friendly stray?

Hi everyone! So today I noticed a new stray eating the food that I leave out for my feral/semi-feral cat. I approached her and she was friendly and extremely vocal. It is now 9 PM and she has been here since 11 AM. She will not leave my side and follows me everywhere, even onto my porch and...

Advice for 4 Month Rabies Quarantine

I've used KFC but since he doesn't really come around to eat anymore I haven't had a chance to see if it works. He seems to prefer cat food. The one time he fully entered the trap was when it was baited with canned food warmed in the microwave. I do keep fried chicken in the house just in case...

Advice for 4 Month Rabies Quarantine

I might just have to try following him and see if I spot any feeding stations. That's a good suggestion. I'm sure that someone is feeding him, just need to locate that person and talk to them.

Advice for 4 Month Rabies Quarantine

Hi all, so I'm back and looking for advice. As some of you know, I've been attempting to catch a hard to trap feral/semi-feral cat who is injured. Things are not looking good right now. The wound is looking smaller, but his fur is matted and he is now missing hair in some places. It feels like...

Rescued cat waiting for foster crying constantly

I actually have some experience with this. Last summer I took in a pregnant friendly stray and had her set up in her own room away from my two cats. My first question is have you tried to locate an owner? If you know of any local lost pet social media pages you can start there, or post fliers...

Advice for 4 Month Rabies Quarantine

This will be my final update for now, at least until he's either trapped or starts coming back consistently. He seems to have completely stopped visiting us for food, but he's passed through once or twice. A few nights ago, I was sitting out on my front porch and was surprised to see him...

Advice for 4 Month Rabies Quarantine

This is kind of a disappointing update. He hasn't been showing up much lately. The shelter is only open 4 days a week and the couple times I have seen him have been on days when they are closed. I thought maybe the trap was deterring him so I've been leaving it unset with the food left toward...

    Settling my kittens

I have a bonded pair of siblings who were also very shy when they were kittens. For the first week or so they would hide under the couch whenever they saw us. You might want to consider putting them in a "safe room" with a door and very little foot traffic so they can get used to their new...

    Concerned about Raccoons

Also, no, I don't think so. If you're really anxious about it, call your doctor for rabies information and peace of mind. 🧡

    Concerned about Raccoons

I wouldn't be overly concerned about the bowls transmitting rabies. I've forgotten to take my dry food in once or twice overnight and the skunks and raccoons did get to it. What I usually do is soak my bowls in soapy water for a few hours, rinse them, and put them in the dishwasher. If you...
