That's a smart Grandma! My parents were always trying to get me to eat my vegetables, they should just have stood me by their pea plants LOL! But I think they wanted some peas for themselves as well...
When my peas are ready to harvest, Mum and I are going to save the pods when we shell them...
She is very pretty! What she is is a tortoiseshell spotted tabby bicolour. Tortoiseshell cats are cats with random patches of red and another colour, and are always female due to the nature of the gene that causes this pattern. Bicolour cats are any colour/pattern with white patches, often on...
Please take care of yourself. Oliver is still reliant on you, and you need to be well enough to care for him. And look after yourself for your own sake, too. Is there anybody you know that you can talk to about what you're going through right now? Maybe a friend, family, vet, or, if you are...
So if I read this right, this woman, who you were trusting to look after YOUR cats, gave one of them away, and without even speaking to you beforehand? And if she thought there was a problem, why didn't she just put the cat in a separate room from the kittens? I don't like to think what I'd do...
I am so sorry that you had to go through this. It's inevitable to beat yourself up, but please remember that every decision you made was made because you wanted the best for these cats. You have already done so much more than many people would by taking them in and doing everything in your...
IMHO, he looks like he's a big, handsome random-bred domestic shorthair, with no definite evidence of pedigree ancestry. Some cats, especially males, are just really big, just like some people are taller than average. My male random-bred cat Ozzie is quite a bit bigger than my neighbour's...
Also, the amount of white on a cat doesn't affect whether they're tabby or not. Whiteness does not eliminate tabbiness. A tabby cat that is mostly white will still have tabby patterns in the non-white areas, and pass those tabby genes to any kittens they have.
There's a chocolate modifier in cats, too, which is different from the brown you get with black + tabby. It turns a solid black coat dark brown and a tabby coat light brown with dark brown (not black) markings. Pointed cats with this modifier are just called chocolate points. 🙂
Haha, guilty as charged! My parents stopped growing them because when I was a kid I'd just stand by their pea plants and graze, and then get in trouble. I think they only planted them this year after my adult self solemnly promised not to do that! But I confess that yesterday I tried a pod...
We had some peas we grew ourselves with our evening meal last night. They tasted wonderful and there are many more on the plants! They were purple-podded sugar peas my mother chose. I'm growing some some green-podded standard peas and they aren't quite ready to eat yet, but are doing well...
I am so sorry. My heart really goes out to you. Having an animal in their care die slowly and painfully alone must be every pet parent's worst nightmare, and you have had to live through it. It isn't surprising that you feel this way. Everybody has a period of self-blame when a pet dies...
I am sorry to hear about Barney's passing. This will be a painful time for you, and there is nothing I can do about that other than to say that it will get better. The Barney shaped hole in your heart will fill up with all the happy memories of the sixteen years of love and care you gave him...
I'm nowhere near as experienced as @FeebysOwner, but just a few ideas. Firstly, if you're uncertain about when to take her to the vet, it might be an idea to go to the ER. Even if it turns out not to be an ER issue, you'll have peace of mind. In the meantime, it's a relief to hear she is...
From your pictures of him, I'd say Simon is a seal tabby point, which would make him a brown tabby if he didn't have the pointed gene. This is the same colour as a solid black cat, which is called 'seal' when a cat is pointed. The tabby gene turns the black into black and brown stripes.
Things don't have to be good when they're straight from your heart and aren't being judged in a poetry contest. I'm with you on hating to see dead cats by the side of a road, but even with dead cats beyond your help, it shows that you are a wonderful, compassionate person for seeing them as...
In addition to rosettes, there's another accepted pattern in Bengals called marbled. Here's an example of one.
However, I'd agree that you, @Honeyx1, have a lovely random-bred classic tabby. It seems it's common for people to mistake classic tabbies for Bengals or Bengal mixes, but in fact it...
