Fresh Is Best Freeze Dried, Boneless Raw

I stated using FIB's food again recently. I had previously discontinued use because one of my cats was getting constipated and I try to get foods that both cats can eat. I usually get their freeze dried meat treats also and decided to get some chicken hearts which are pretty greasy. I give my...

    Rehydrating freeze dried raw

When I used to feed Primal's freeze dried raw venison nuggets, I crushed the nuggets in a glass bowl with a pestle. It only took several minutes to crush the nuggets into small pieces. I would then add warm water gradually to get the consistency of the food the way the cats liked it - a...

Weruva BFF Grain free can food for kidneys?

When I asked Answers about the bone percentage 2 years ago, I was told 10%.

Weruva BFF Grain free can food for kidneys?

I've been using BFF's Oh My Gravy line for about a year without any issues, my cats (both 9 years old) like that it's soupy. I usually add in a few pieces of freeze dried meat treats (boneless meat, e.g., Vital Essentials chicken breast treats or Fresh is Best turkey tenders) to the BFF, they...

Purpose Pet Food: Freeze Dried Chicken

Hi, sorry for the late reply, just seeing this several days later. Purpose is working out very well for Molly, she loves it! Mikey likes it too, however, Purpose is mostly for Molly. She just had blood work less than a week ago and all kidney values are within normal range. Purpose is...

    Lysine Supplements

I've used both pure powder (Carlson's) and lysine treats and found both to be effective, it may just depend on the cat although likely the powder is more concentrated. When I used the powder, my cat wouldn't eat all his food with the powder mixed in but would eat the treat.

    Lysine Supplements

When that 2015 study first came out re: lysine being ineffective for FHV cats, I asked our vet and he kind of rolled his eyes and said to continue using lysine (during flare ups for our FHV male cat). I use it intermittently, the only issue is not to overdue with lysine because it reduces...

Do ALL cats need eat low phosphorus like CKD cats?

While I wouldn't feed a low phos, CKD diet to a young and healthy cat, I wouldn't feed a high phos diet either. Although the link below refers to a German study and cats on high phosphorus diets, I find the info interesting. https://m.phys.org/news/2018-03-excess-phosphorus-cat-food-kidney.html

    Meat Mates

Ah yes, now I remember that same reply from them as well, it's been awhile ....what a load of hogwash, unbelievable. I have never heard of muscle and organ meat containing enough calcium to meet AAFCO's requirements, Feline Natural must really believe we are idiots. It's the ground bone in...

    Meat Mates

"She's a Witch": The freeze dried food isn't boneless, Feline Natural / Meat Mates won't list that ground bone is included in their recipe (same as Vital Essentials). I contacted them a few years back about this, they claim that due to AAFCO definitions of meat ingredients, or something or...

For those of you that feed wet, low carb/high protein: Share your current rotation!

I try to stick with lower phosphorus foods for my two nine year old cats, for the most part they are currently eating: Some Weruva, Soulistic & Life's Abundance (chick/turkey), and some raw for one cat. I have a list of ingredients that I avoid (and companies that I don't trust) so my choice...

RAW food with lowest *bone* 🦴 content ?!

Purpose Pet Food (freeze dried raw, must be rehydrated), claims to only use 5% bone. That's what I've been using for my Molly. They only have one protein though, chicken, although the owner indicated to me last year they may have two additional proteins by the end of this year or 2020.

Dr. Murphy's Nature's Feast Cat Food?

lisahe I contacted Susan at TAPF more than a year ago re: my dissatisfaction with MM's response regarding the amount of bone in their food (same company as Feline Natural). In a nutshell, per AAFCO's guidelines, the company doesn't have to list "bone" in their ingredients, it's understood that...

Fresh Is Best Freeze Dried, Boneless Raw

That is interesting that the MCHA is more costly than the calcium carbonate. Maybe they do have a special supplier. Anyway, it's still a decent alternative to the others, just not for my little guy. Also their calcium / phos #'s are a bit better, at least what I remember reading for the...

Fresh Is Best Freeze Dried, Boneless Raw

When I first started feeding FIB, I didn't know the bonemeal would cause Mikey constipation. He was getting constipated on another commercial raw (that he had eaten for 4 years without any issues) so when I saw FIB's use of bonemeal, I thought it would be different, that his constipation was due...

Fresh Is Best Freeze Dried, Boneless Raw

It wasn't the protein in FIB that caused constipation but rather the bonemeal that caused Mikey to become constipated. He can't have any type of bone in his food, unfortunately, even when I used the fattier duck, extra fat helps him but not with FIB unfortunately. I just contacted the...

Fresh Is Best Freeze Dried, Boneless Raw

It's a very good alternative to the other freeze dried products with bone, however, my cat still became constipated on both the duck and turkey unfortunately. Both cats really liked the taste though, I may get it again for my one cat who doesn't have constipation problems.

Peas Found In Hound & Gatos Duck!!!

Sure, no problem. :) I'm glad Koha rabbit is working out for you. We've been using Rawz, Holistic Select and Weruva canned products, although the cats are on / off with Rawz (turkey and occasionally duck) because they just don't like the food that much. My cats don't have a problem with...
