    Diarrhea fixed with dry food?

I updated on the other question but not here Simon finally DID go yesterday (and twice!) - the first was somewhat formed, but the second was pure liquid again. I've reduced him down to the miralax once a day so as not to shock his system by taking him completely off, but at least he's going...

At what point should I worry about sneezing?

A lot of times, cats in shelter or group environments are exposed to things like the herpes virus and just general upper respiratory infections that may not become apparent for the first week or so. Like the others said, definitely still take your cat to the vet, but as long as there's no...

    16 y/o with repeated upper respiratory/sinus infections

You may also want to look into L-lysine supplements (I know it comes in the paste and in a powder, but there may be other forms that work better for your kitty). My guy had terrible URI's until we started him on the paste and outside of a few minor sneezing fits, he's been clear ever since.

    From diarrhea to constipation?

He finally went this morning - Granted, it's still not fully formed or back to where he was prior to the diarrhea, but at this point, I'll take anything. We'll give the probiotics another couple of days and go from there. Thanks for the support, y'all

    From diarrhea to constipation?

Y'all are going to get so sick of my posts about cat poop, I swear it    The latest update in the "What is going on in that litterbox??" saga: Simon didn't have a bowel movement at all on Sunday and, if I remember correctly, he didn't go on Saturday either...

    Diarrhea fixed with dry food?

Today's update: Simon has now gone to the opposite end of the spectrum and didn't poo all day yesterday or yet today. He's still urinating though, and ate all of his food, so I'm hoping this is like when my last cat would get an enema and it just took her a couple of days to get things...

    Diarrhea fixed with dry food?

Daily update: Simon has gone two more times since this morning and while both were still much softer than they should be, they at least looked vaguely formed, so progress. I'm hesitant to skip a meal tonight, but the vet has yet to really steer me wrong, so I guess I'll give it a shot...

    Diarrhea fixed with dry food?

I take it back - The probiotic is Proviable DC, to give one capsule daily. It said by mouth, but I don't think pilling this cat is going to be an option, so I'll call back after lunch to see if I can sprinkle it on his food instead.

    Diarrhea fixed with dry food?

Called the vet this morning - he recommended that we skip a meal (I guess to give his digestive system a chance to recover/relax), and add a probiotic that I assume is Fortiflora since that's what most vets seem to recommend. If those don't work, we'll have to take Simon to have some tests ran...

    My Old Man

Every once in a while, I get super sentimental and get the urge to rewatch this video I took of my old man "talking" to me about a year before he passed. (There's no video - That's him in the picture, though, but to set the scene: I was hiding in our bathroom, and he was standing on the other...

How much do you spend on wet cat food?

We order three different kinds of the fancy feast canned food from chewy.com (the 24-can packs) - and he gets two cans per day. Since he started off on dry food, he does occasionally get a few kibbles from the leftover supply as a treat, but it is predominately the wet food now. We get...

    Lysine Supplements

Simon had one heck of an URI when we first adopted him from the shelter - When nothing else was working, the vet recommended we try adding L-Lysine paste to his wet food, saying that some cats apparently just don't have the proper amount of the amino acid (they weren't sure why). With the...

    Diarrhea fixed with dry food?

Well, he did go today - but it was another nearly liquid stool (and he was licking his lips afterwards, but it was also his dinner time. He tends to get worked up to the point of throwing up if I'm even a little late on his dinner - so it could've been that or having just been in the litterbox...

    Diarrhea fixed with dry food?

@kittyluv837 - Yeah, I know there are better quality foods out there - but between cost and having a picky eater, I've learned to pick my battles. It's better for him to get the moisture from a "meh" quality food than having him refuse to eat altogether.

    Diarrhea fixed with dry food?

@stephanietx - I haven't yet. If the loose stools continue, I'm going to contact my vet to try his recommendation first and go from there. He's yet to steer me wrong - but (as messed up as it is) I'll have to price check the difference between what he thinks and this s.boullardi

    Diarrhea fixed with dry food?

@mommytobuck - Nah, I don't think it is a bad batch as he's been using from the same bottle for quite some time (one of the bigger containers will last us a couple of months easily, Thanks COSTCO!). He just goes through spurts of this - I tend to lean towards him maybe having some IBS issues...

Angel at home, she-devil at the vet?

@mommytobuck - When it comes to sedation, I don't think vets necessarily push it just for them to make money, as there is always a risk of harm with sedating an animal (the risk increases with age, general health, length of sedation needed, etc.). It might be easier for them to work on a...

    Diarrhea fixed with dry food?

@denice - Yes, he was. He was on a combination diet of the wet food and dry food until probably early to mid December and then we slowly weened him to just being on wet food I don't think it would be a problem to get the probiotic from the vet - When he had an upset stomach/loose stool during...

Angel at home, she-devil at the vet?

My last cat was the sweetest girl to myself and my Mom (and to some degree, my dad prior to his passing, but he approached her like she was a rabid animal LMAO) - but as soon as she got to the vet? Holy creature of nightmares, Batman. Every vet visit required sedation - which cost a small...

    Diarrhea fixed with dry food?

My Simon has been on a combination of l-lysine paste and miralax since we brought him home in October 2018. The miralax was actually added in when it became clear he was having some minor difficulty in the litterbox (since my last cat had megacolon, I tend to be almost hypervigilent with...
