Has anyone had any luck with meds to prevent agression between 2 neutered males?

Oh, I should have clarified re. street rescue, he was a tiny kitten, about 6 weeks old, sitting in the middle of a busy road. He has no interest in going outside and has been an indoor cat for all his life since his rescue. I am good with harp music, might have to try that.

Has anyone had any luck with meds to prevent agression between 2 neutered males?

Furball's mom, he gets plenty of exercise. He climbs and runs all over the place and he likes to play chase with me, plus chase toys. They don't seem to respond to music much, the old guy complains when it's too loud. Dragonlady, that's quite an ingenious setup. We have a small rancher, so...

Has anyone had any luck with meds to prevent agression between 2 neutered males?

Actually, the 6 year old tries to play with all the other cats and gets on the other's nerves as well but there are no physical altercations with any of the girls. He and old guy are the only males, it's 6 girls and 2 boys. We cannot keep all 4 permanently, we have daily battles with...

Has anyone had any luck with meds to prevent agression between 2 neutered males?

It's not ideal but it has to work for now. Poor guy had to have stitches to close the abscess area, the vet thinks it was itchy and he tore it open when scratching. They gave him anesthesia and anesthesia reversal so he is just a bit woozy still.

Has anyone had any luck with meds to prevent agression between 2 neutered males?

Yes, he is pretty much confined to our bedroom now. The only other cat in there is our 18 year old who sleeps most of the day and they get along fine. I am sure it's a huge amount of stress on him which he doesn't need at his age.He usually has free range of the house and now he can't leave the...

Has anyone had any luck with meds to prevent agression between 2 neutered males?

I posted a while back re. many problems due to taking in a relative's 4 cats when we already have 4 of our own. Things have not been going well. Several of the newcomers are ganging up on our 13 year old, but the main problem is between him and the 6 year old male who is one of the 4 we took in...

Question for people who work for rescue orgs

Yes, our local rescue bails out as many as they can from animal control and they don't usually have room for owner surrenders or strays people pick up. We've kept all the strays who've adopted us because finding good homes is so difficult. The situation is depressing and awful and infuriating...

Question for people who work for rescue orgs

I think we are going to have to ask if they would euthanize her. If so, I can't see taking her there. If the original rescue lead doesn't pan out, I'll do that. It's not that expensive to care for her, our local rescue vet orders the insulin for $85 per vial. That lasts for a bit over 2 months...

Question for people who work for rescue orgs

Thank you, theyremine, that is encouraging. Hopefully these rescues will operate the same as the ones in your area.

Question for people who work for rescue orgs

Fiona's mom, we do have nextdoor and I've seen quite a few notices to place cats and dogs. There never seems to be much, if any, interest though. And what little interest there is usually seems to be in dogs. Cats are more difficult to place. It doesn't help that this is a retirement area and...

Question for people who work for rescue orgs

We already attempted to rehome them plus contacted local shelters and had no luck. The other relatives want no part of the situation. The original rescues are pretty much our last hope. We took them in with the best intentions and also the hopes of being able to return them to him, but the...

Question for people who work for rescue orgs

In a nutshell, we have a close relative who is in legal trouble, currently incarcerated and will probably go to prison for quite a while. We have 4 cats of our own and took in his 4 cats 4 months ago when he was arrested, because it was either us or animal control. Things have not been going...

Don't Know What To Do - Venting

We live close to a busy highway and we also like to feed the birds and other wildlife, so that's not an option. It is very difficult to take care of 8 though and with the added cost of food/litter, we are only going to be able to provide basic vet care for the four. Sometimes I do feel like we...

Don't Know What To Do - Venting

CBD oil, I wouldn't have though of that! Our no-kill shelter/vet service sells CBD products, I noticed the sign when I had to refill diabetic kitty's insulin. Thank you for the suggestion, I'll call them next week and ask them if they have an oil that might be suitable for our situation. The...

Don't Know What To Do - Venting

I talked to the vet today and she said we could try a small dose of prozac so he will calm down and not provoke the other kitties. I am not quite on board with it because it can cause anorexia and he is already so upset by the "intruders" that he forgets to eat, so he has lost weight since we've...

Don't Know What To Do - Venting

Lanny, thank you. We are close to the small city where the shelter is located, but an hour away from the large city. We are in a neighborhood subdivision, not the country. Don't do facebook, we do have a neighborhood next door page. But there are never any responses when someone tries to place a...

Don't Know What To Do - Venting

Feeby's, thanks for the suggestions. We have several local cat rescue/tnr people who've kept an ear out for potential good homes since July, but nothing so far. Too few good homes for way too many needy cats.

Don't Know What To Do - Venting

Thanks so much for the suggestions. We have a small open plan rancher, so no upstairs/downstairs and no way to easily divide the house. We have the bite victim secured in our bedroom, but he is not happy about it and going stir-crazy. He is used to having the run of the house. We do have an...

Don't Know What To Do - Venting

I apologize for the long email and complaining. I pretty much know this situation is hopeless and there aren't any solutions to this, except for the obvious ones. Because of a relative's illegal activity resulting in his arrest, we ended up taking in his 4 cats. We already have 4 of our own...

Need Cheap But Nutritious Food Suggestions

Thank you so much, Sidneykitty. Yes, things are very rough right now, but the only thing to do is to keep on marching. I will try to stop back in to post the promised pics once I take them (one of the kitties is in hiding and only comes out at night, hopefully she will come around soon) and also...
