This male cat was a stray that was abandoned by a neighbor that moved away. He was an adult when my daughter brought him in the house to make him an inside cat. We have two Cane Corsos and 4 cats to include this one in our home. All animals are spayed or neutered. 3 liter boxes in 3 separate rooms are available for use and are routinely cleaned. This cat is the only one that routinely will crap on the rug or floor or pee on something on the floor. None of the others do this. He has been in our home 1yr and anytime the door is cracked he runs out. I am at the point of tossing him back outside where he can pee and poop to his hearts content and he will be fed and watered. I believe this is territorial and there is no other option but to toss him out. Anyone have an opinion?

Hi! Welcome!!
Has he been in to the vet?
Does he use a litterbox at all - some outdoor cats make the switch if the litterbox is filled with unfertilized potting soil?

One thought, could you create a catio for him outside?

Maybe get a home made litter box twice his size. Mine is 25inches long 18 inches high. You might need one more. 2 of my 3 cats mostly use that one. And at least 3inches of litter

All animals are fixed. He uses a litter box randomly. He has been to the Vet and nothing wrong with him. A catio? I think I would rather place him outside in the natural catio he came from, the outdoors. It's almost like he does it out of spite. He says "today I hate the dog so I'll crap or pee on his blanket". "Today the adults yelled at me for something I did so I'll crap on their bathroom rug". "Today I don't like their other daughter so I'll pee on her bed".

It can certainly feel like this, but your cat is'nt capable of spite. I would introduce more litter boxes, you need one per cat plus one more. Preferably another one as well if needed. Try a softer feel of litter like sand or wood pellets.

You could try isolating him in one room for a little while and test if he will use a certain litter over others.

does he use one spot over and over or does it vary?
is it always soft furnishings?
Is it always another pet's property or space?

If he's peed on the bed it might be because one of the other cats has slept there, or he might feel threatened by one or more of your other pets and is trying to lay his claim to that area. you can try more vertical space to give him areas to call his own.

Is he given attention like playing with him, talking in a calm voice, petting, so he feels wanted? One of my cats seems upset when she is not paid attention. There is something found at Petco similar to a flash light that spots any urine

They all get equal attention. He gets more from my youngest daughter and she is the only reason he is not outside. He pees or poops on soft items like blankets or rugs and hard items like the tile floor. There is no litter box in the Master Bath and he will walk past the 3 rooms with a litter box and poop on the rug in aour bathroom.

This will sound weird but put the litter box in your daughter's room and where she spends most of her time. My cats go wherever I am. So bedroom, bathroom, and living room. Cats use the litter box mostly in the morning and night. The one in my bathroom is only used by Peaches. Bedroom Maggie or Peaches because they sleep with me, Coco and Maggie in the living room.
