Yeah the refills are pricey. The last time I got the off-brand and they seem just as good, so far. But yikes.
Yeah. It's a long war -- pay some costs now to hopefully get her Pred dose lowered :crossfingers: by using a good air purifier long-term, or pay all the costs from health issues later by having her get diabetes or something from this daily Pred use. She takes some every day at this point (about 2.5-3.75 mg, depending on frequency of cough attacks) but I will be ecstatic if an air purifier enables me to give her Pred every other day at least (cutting her usage in half). :crossfingers:

Late to the thread but adding in.

Caveat - I'm assuming this will work for kitties too - I see no reason why it wouldn't.

We bought 2 Rabbit Air purifiers - one for upstairs, one for downstairs. The one downstairs does up to 800 s.f. The one up is in our bedroom and does up to 700 s.f. The door is open all the time so it pretty much clears up the entire 2nd floor.

We noticed a difference immediately. Both of us used to snore for one thing - that disappeared literally overnight. We both breathe MUCH better in the house now. No more sneezing at all. I'm allergic to quite a few things - mostly seasonal allergies and dust mites which are everywhere.

The Rabbit units have 4 different specialized filters to choose from so you can find one that suits you best. We use the one for pet dander since it also will take care of all the other things in addition to the pet issues.

The filter gets cleaned once a month and I notice if it hasn't been cleaned for sure - another way I know it works. I start sneezing and breathing worse if a day or 2 pass past the cleaning date. Hubby for his part does a great job of remembering. It can be rinsed in the sink or vacuumed. There's another small piece that should be cleaned out every few months - no big deal.

Once a year, the entire filter system is tossed and a new one put in. You can set it to an auto-ship so you never have to worry about remembering.

Rabbit has 2 units - the Minus 2 which we got - I like that it's very unobtrusive looking too - slim and modern. It is quite pricey, however, but goes on sale a couple of times a year via the company only. They have another one that is larger and less money and equally good according to my allergist.

I can't recommend this highly enough. You get what you pay for and if you suffer badly from allergies, the Rabbit WILL work for you.

^ They have a "Hello Kitty" version for the MinusA2, too!

I don’t know what kind of flooring you have but by far the biggest help for my allergies was removing all the carpeting from my home and going with hardwood and laminate floors. When you pull up a carpet, even in a home where you vacuum daily you see how much dust and dirt settled down through the carpet where a vacuum can’t reach.
Curtains really make a difference too. Either getting hard blinds or the roll up black out curtains compared to cloth ones made a huge difference for me.

Old fashioned rollup plastic shades actually work better to prevent dust accumulation than curtains, although if I take down the curtains (a pain!) and wash them once a month they are ok. But as far as dust, blinds are the worst. They accumulate so much dust and cleaning each slat from top to bottom takes forever.

I have both curtains and blinds. :paperbag:

The air purifier is going to have to be a workhorse, even if I do a lot of washing and cleaning anyway.
