Watching my cats play today under a blanket got me thinking (especially when I think about all I've paid for toys etc) what do your cats love to play with that costs no money?

Mine:
Under a blanket
Any purse, shopping bag, backpack on the floor
Shoe laces in shoes
Gift bag especially with tissue paper
Open Box
foil balls
My hair elastics (not rubber but covered type things)
Any pen on a table

Any cardboard box is number one. Any closed door will bring reaching for the knob, reaching under the door, and much meowing. Grapes are a big thing too to bat around, but cats aren't supposed to eat grapes, so that is a supervised playtime. Have you ever laid anything down, anywhere, that is a square or rectangle? Small rug, towel, cardboard, piece of construction paper? Cats are drawn to it like a magnet. Even drawing a square on a floor with a thick border will find them sitting there! LOL!

I'm not sure it technically costs money since they just exist in our house, but Milly likes to play with nickels, quarters, and dollar coins. She has the best time flipping them around with her paws, scooching them under furniture and under papers, and chasing them if we roll them across the floor.

Among other things Sombra likes anything long and thin like pens and pencils. She will steal them from my desk and push them around the floor under different pieces of furniture: sideboard, bookcases, armchairs, beds, etc. She manages to loosen pieces of my parquet floor which end up joining the pens and pencils wherever she has hidden them. Sometimes I am lucky to recuperate them when my great-grandchildren come visiting and run around looking for them. :)

My ear plugs if I leave them out! :headshake:
He loves when I rip off a junk mail page, wad it up and throw it down on the floor for him to attack. He gets ready when he sees me going in for the tear!
