My cat is pregnant. I'm not sure exactly the days but she is either due now or very soon due. Yesterday she had some watery bleeding. Wasn't acting out of the ordinary whatsoever. Here we are at the end of the day and still no noticable contractions. She has had diarrhea for about 2 to 3 days. This is her first litter. I have her set up in my bedroom currently and keeping her in there. She has seemed a bit more lovable today and is no longer bleeding. She occasionally purrs randomly and kneads. Any advice or thoughts on this? It has me a bit concerned. The vet said to seclude her and see if anything changes.

She also lost her mucus plug midday yesterday.

From what I know, labor usually takes in about 6-8 hrs, with several minutes intervals for each kitten born.

The mucus plug falls off between 3-7 days before actual birth of kittens. Better to consult the vet just to be sure.

How is she today? Stage one labor takes about 24 hours once it begins. Is she contracting yet? Is this her first pregnancy?

This is her first pregnancy. If she is contracting they aren't visible. She is being very lovable and meowing a bit. And she is also in her nesting spot currently so I'm hoping things move along.

Well, no other changes really. Just being lazy and no discharge. She looks so much smaller today but there are definitely still babies in there.

Well, the kittens may have “dropped” down near the birth canal, which is normal. This makes a cat appear slimmer, but in reality it is uncomfortable for your cat. She’s close though! :)

I have a cat who just recently gave birth. She was very lovable in the days leading up to her delivery. She would jump up in my lap, and lay on my chest. She would also knead me, and bump her head on my chin. As faras I can tell, your kitty is really close to delivering. I didn't witness my cat losing her mucus plug, or her water breaking, but I came in the room just in time for her to give birth. I was keeping an eye out for contractions, and only noticed her pushing. She did great, and gave birth to four healthy kittens. Just keep an eye on your kitty. Hopefully you can be there when she gives birth. That's one of the things I worried about. I work a full time job, and was scared she's have them while I was at work. If you are there make sure she is calm, and that her environment is quiet. Also make sure that she delivers a placenta after each kitten.
She will most likely eat it, so don't be worried if she does. Basically keep calm. There are many helpful articles on here. They helped me keep my cool, when Peaches had her kittens. Hope this helps a little. Best of luck!

Thank you! That is very reassuring! She is still seemingly doing just fine. No other discharge of any kind. I have been keeping her in my room at night with her nest and everything she needs. She was very lovable this morning and now is just lounging around the house.

Not sure if anyone is still watching this. But she is still pregnant. Today she lost what I am assuming is actually her mucus plug. She just birthed a placenta and empty sac. Still following me around currently. What is going on?

She obviously had a kitten that died inside her or failed to develop. The others should follow shortly. Since she delivered that placenta, no more developments in the next 24 hours would definitely mean a call to the vet. I pray everything goes smoothly, PLEASE keep us informed! Bless you for being there for her......

:yeah: Unless it’s not quite time for the others yet, in which case it could be a few more days. Just wait unless she is in distress. Mother Nature usually does a good job with these things.

I called the vet and they said I could bring her in but wanted a lot of money up front that I do not have. They said to watch her since she seems to be totally fine. She is still eating and drinking fine. Acting normal. I'm starting to wonder if what I saw was a sac with placenta? It looked thick and white with a red circle attached to it. I know this is going to be disgusting but the closest think I couls think that describes it is like fat on pork chops??

It’s something from the uterus that is no longer needed. She sounds like she’s doing fine!

She dropped a full tenday ago? The delivery usually follows a 2-3 days later... Had you felt kittens move during these days? They dont move as much when she has dropped, as they are squezzed...

So I suspect somthing is amiss here.

As she seems fine and without real troubles, I hope she will be OK even without this costly vet help.

I mean, it happens now and then, when vets are spaying, they find a calcifered fetus... (ie a stony skeleton, sort of). So apparently kittens dying inside isnt always disastrous for her health, quite often she manages anyways...

Still, if there is ANY possibility to visit a good vet, its surely best to do so. If nothing else, to check up and probably do the spaying / removing of the potentially inflammed uterus.
And giving her antibiotics. Probably also suitable extra fluids.

If my suspicion is right, the kittens are gone, its no longer a life saving surgery (but safe guarding moms life and health).
This means, it doensnt need to be a costly, top notch animal hospital. A decently experienced vet with full spaying gears and experience should suffice... I mean, such a vet is probably cheaper than this top notch animal hospital with full neonatal equipment...

Do you have any idea when she could have got pregnant? Got outside and disappeared for a few hours, etc., or when she came into heat? That would really help in determining if something is wrong. That bleeding and what she delivered could have been some kind of miscarraige of a damaged fetus. That doesn't mean that even weeks later she couldn't deliver healthy kittens, cats deliver at different times quite often. But it would help to know if she is really overdue and maybe the kittens are gone so you can take steps.....

Around August 15th is when her nipples were noticeably pinker and bigger. She got out around 3 to 4 weeks before that.

Lets say 4 weeks before... she would be due in about a day, 63 days. Three weeks before, she would have a week left. So she is NOT overdue, in fact she may have been spotting because of a partial miscarraige or any number of things. I would definitely wait a week as long as she is acting normal, so any kittens would be fully formed. Cats are much safer to go a little over then to deliver prematurely. If she goes ten days, then call your vet again, or if she starts acting distressed, lethargic, stops eating/drinking, or starts hiding.
