Hi! I took in a new stray cat over the summer and around july 14th we noticed her nipples were pinking up and she soon after started showing. We are sure shes pregnant, but it seems likes she's been pregnant forever. She has lately been having a pinkish/brownish slimy discharge throughout our house. Sometimes it's a few drops and sometimes it's a lot. This has been happening off and on for the last week. Is this normal? Is it a sign of upcoming labor? We have a vet appointment this Thursday to have things checked out.

The problem is, if you are sure you saw her pinking around 14 july, this is about 3 week mark... So NOW she is verry late, ie way overdue...

Normally, such a discharge would be a normal pre labor phase. But if she is that late as it sounds, it may be something very wrong. And thus, a vet visit and possibly a cutting out her probably infected vomb (including de facto a spay). Such an operation isnt difficult for an experienced vet who had done his share of obstetric surgery. But may be difficult to an inexperienced vet or a free time practicioner withour full gears.

Had you ever felt the kittens move? Had she "dropped"?

I agree with Stefan. Something is not right. She needs an ultrasound or x-ray and treatment, probably surgery.

Poor gal. Can she be seen before Thursday?

I would suggest an ultrasound to see what's going on in there and find out if there are live kittens. She might have live kittens if your dates were wrong, or if she pinked up when she was in heat (sometimes cats do that, which can be confusing). Live kittens have heartbeats on ultrasound.

Or, she may have been indeed 3 weeks pregnant around July 14, the kittens may have died and her body may now be passing the dead tissue. An ultrasound would help to clarify that.
