I'm going to try to type this quick because my laptop battery is low. And I don't like having to make the plug reach from where I am on the couch... :compsurfing:

Do you still have old text/reference books?

I am a bit of a book hoarder in general anyway. But a quick peek at my bookshelves says that I have decades old dictionaries. :lol2: I've also got a shelf with textbooks from college and other reference books I've purchased over the years. They come in handy now and then. I've been searching ebay for a used copy of a reference book for architectural drawing that we used in college. I've got some projects in my mind and it would help to verify how some things are properly done. Its just not a cheap book unless I want a REALLY old one. :p

I know I could google things (and I do); but sometimes a book is still nice to have. I don't see me parting with these yet.

We still have a few books from when DD was in college but that's it. They are in the "to be donated to the thrift store" pile.

Just a few on particular types of pottery or antique furniture. I used to have many others but with so much available online I just never used them.

I have a couple of dictionaries and a thesaurus, but I threw out our encyclopedias a number of years ago. I didn't keep my college textbooks.

Someone tried to give me an old set of encyclopedias since I homeschool. I declined. They MIGHT have been useful but more likely they would have collected dust. My kids are still young to be using them. They suggested even cutting pictures out of them but that just felt wrong to me even if I don't think we would use them. :lol2:

So I guess I have some standards.

Yes. I still have my books, including the late '60s World Book encyclopedia I read cover to cover as a child.

There is some very interesting historical context in them.

"Hoarder" is not a nice term and I'm glad it did not become popular until after my grandparents passed. "Family heirloom" is a much nicer way to describe the possessions that I inherited, which include the journal of a young college girl who was described as one of the most promising young poets to come out of the South(eastern USA) in the early 20th century.

Unfortunately, 1929 happened, so Gran became "the pretty girl who makes coffee, answers the phones, and corrects the boss' spelling" instead.

I am a bibliophile and have a large collection of books. Roughly half of them are reference books and textbooks. My favorite is my "Norton Anthology of Theory and Criticism."

I have a dictionaries and a thesaurus left over from school. I kept them because I can't spell. I did not go to college so I don't have any books from there.

You guys can tell I have never been to college. I am probably the only one here that did not go.

My "schooling" consisted of tech school and some hands on in the Army. This all got me my license to work on aircraft (A&P license). Not college but, it is supposed to equal an associates degree. The tech school was 2 years curriculum crammed into 18 months. We were taught algebra, trig, physics, electrical theory as well as mechanical hands on with engines.
We all get there by different routes.
