We've chosen a book to read in October. We decided on an older release hoping that would make it in less demand for those of us who borrow from the library.

You can see the book we chose in the Book Of The Month Club thread.

Thanks for all the suggestions of books we could read. Keep them coming, as we will be keeping a file of them, and probably choose some for future monthly reads, as we try to pick books from different genres/interests.

I will have to check the book club out... perhaps see if my library has it.. if not I will order it.

Another book is "The Orphan Train" set during the depression. Did not know this even existed, during that time period.

I've always been an avid reader and would definitely not be opposed to being in a book club, but I read almost exclusively sci-fi/fantasy. Not really sure that would fit in well.

I read that one a couple years ago.

I think we should try to read from all different genres, and both fiction and non-fiction. So some books may not appeal to everyone, which is fine. I'd be game to read something sci-fi/fantasy. So feel free to list some recommendations.

After sci-fi/fantasy, what other types of books would you read?

That's basically it. I've tried mystery, suspense, horror.....none of it grabs me like sci-fi and fantasy do. I used to like historical fiction when I was a kid, especially WW2, but as I got older it sorta lost it's appeal. Mostly because a lot of it was so inaccurate in depictions of historical events.

I agree. I read a lot of different stuff - from teen fiction to New York best sellers. I read fantasy stuff as well.

No worries, I'm sure we'll read something sci-fi eventually.

However, the beauty of a book club, is that we'll be discussing the books we read. So you can still read along, and then post your comments/review/thoughts, etc., stating why the book didn't appeal to you.

It will get boring fast, if we all like every book we read, and all we post are positive reviews.

I'm game to read almost anything. I won't, however, read (or will stop reading) a book where animals or children are harmed, or other disturbing themes. But fantasy, romance, historical, YA, non-fiction, even sci-fi, I'm willing to give a shot, if my library has the e-book.

"The Railway Children"
That one was wrong also, I looked that up and it was really called, "The Orphan Train".. Sometimes I am such a ditz..:runaround:

Close, but no cigar!!! :flail:

I was remembering it by the glitz of the story, not the title..
