Good morning.

It has been around 140 hours since I last had a cup of coffee.

:ruminating:

I love coffee, but I usually try and have a week or two without any at least once a year, just to give my system a break. At the moment it's really humid, so drinking coffee makes me break out into a sweat. I thought it would be a good idea to give up for a while. At least until October, when I can really enjoy it.

What are you hooked on? Have you ever tried to give up? How did that go?

I'm hooked on coffee, but I've found by drinking plenty of cups of tea and iced chai I've been able to give it up almost painlessly.

I'm also a bit of an exercise junkie. If I don't get out for a long walk or do something active every day I get really grumpy. The only times I've stopped are when I've broken bones.

I might be an internet addict too, as I'm online about 8 hours a day. That's mainly for work though, so I'm not counting that. The only thing that stops my internet addiction is a black out.

How about you, what are you addicted to?

Caffeine. If I don't get a daily dose of caffeine (and it's easiest just to drink a mug of coffee every morning), I'll get a really bad headache.

I used to be a walking junkie. Alas, that is no longer the case.

Coffee, definitely. I was addicted to cigarettes for 30 years too, that was definitely the hardest addiction to get over. I don't think you ever do. I gave up smoking, I gave up drinking. 19 years ago. Don't even ask me to ever give up my coffee, it's one of the few pleasures I have left!

I have a severe sugar addiction. Not joking...

I've tried my best to stay away from sweet juices and candy but I have no impulse control. I'm always spiking my blood sugar which causes me to break out. I always say, "Oh, just one more piece of chocolate." But then I end up eating the entire thing. Just one more glass of juice, but then I end up drinking half the jug. I don't know how to stop. I need a strong angry man to physically pick me up every time I reach for something with too much sugar in it. If I had the money, not kidding, I'd hire someone for this purpose.

:yeah: This describes me to a T.

I gave up coffee when I was pregnant with my two children but always went back to it after they were born. I like to say it's my only bad habit. ;)

V8 (of tomato juice fame) makes a drink called V8 Fusion + Energy that I have drank (drunk? Had to drink?) every day since high school (I'm 25 now). It has more caffeine than a soda but less than a cup of coffee. They're relatively expensive (compared to a cup of coffee), and I've tried to wean myself off of them, but so far I have not been able to do so without getting a pretty bad headache! I'm pretty sure I'm the sole person keeping the pomegranate blueberry flavor in business...:paperbag:

Potato chips! My life would be empty without chips! I also need caffeine, but I don't consume too much so I don't see it as a problem. I drink my one or two cups of coffee in the morning and will have my thermos of tea (not always caffeinated though) to sip on throughout the day (along with water).
I attempt to live my life with the "everything in moderation" mantra because I don't believe that total abstinence is a healthy and long lasting solution (except when dealing with major addictions like alcohol and drugs of course!). But I do think I need to cut back on the chips, the love handles are starting to get to me and I refuse to have to buy new pants!

Definitely coffee. As soon as my eyes are open in the morning that is the first thing I think of. The other thing I am totally hooked on is listening to a book in the car. It just feels like life is better with a good book. I only have short drives but I still love to listen while I drive. I reserve them at the library, pick them up at thrift stores and occasionally buy one if I can’t wait to listen to it.

I so agree. After reading the posts, I am now craving chips, chocolate cake, coffee which I haven't had in over a year, and would love a nice juicy cheeseburger and fries about now.

I forgot to say, cold toast too. It must be left to go cold before buttering then put in the fridge so the butter goes really firm. I use the crust of a white sliced loaf and do it long enough that it goes crispy but not burnt.
