Wow it looks like I'll need to work on my waiting skills haha. I guess she'll let me know when she's ready (I really hope its obvious enough for my inexperienced self!).

The vet told us she's at least 45 days because that's when the xrays will actually show calcified kittens, but said without much more information its hard to be any more specific. We know she's at least 51-52 days since thats how long we've had her with us. It's amazing to feel them, I can't wait to see how they all do.

Hopefully I'll find the patience to just relax and trust she knows what she's doing. On that note I'm also hoping the next time I post will be once there's kitten pics to share!

All 5 babies made it out yesterday and have been pigging out ever since :) She had a bit of trouble with the first one but after that they came relatively easy (over the span of 6 hours!). I've added their weights, I'm a little concerned about the littlest one, but I weighed them again today and it is still gaining weight and suckling when I check on it.

Day 1
Spots: 3.59 oz
Stripes: 3.43 oz
White: 3.73 oz
Black: 3.73 oz
Checkered: 3.63 oz

Day 2
Spots: 4.26 oz
Stripes: 3.70 oz
White: 4.25 oz
Black: 4.26 oz
Checkered: 4.23 oz

Mama lets us weigh them and doesn't nip when we reach in but she has been getting up away from them more than I expected, but she goes back after wandering the house for a bit.

That's a fine looking family :wave3:
Congratulations to you all, have you picked out names?
At a year old and second litter, she's still pretty inexperienced and might need your help encouraging her to lay with them a bit more than she is.

No names yet, partially because a family friend already wants two once they're old enough so we're going to let them pick those names, and then I want to see their colors develop a bit more and determine their genders. As for mama she does seem to come back pretty quick if I walk over there and sit by the babies, but at the same time she likes to follow me occasionally if I leave the room she's in. I even had to move my computer over by her nook this morning so I could actually get some work done.

I just took them out to change puppy pads and towels and mama had one's whole head in her mouth, when I got it out she did it to another one and it almost looked like she was chewing. I was so scared she was going to eat them or something that I had my husband hold her while I finished and piled them back into the nest. She followed and just curled up around them all. I wear gloves when I need to pick them up, don't touch them unless its to weigh or clean, and they were hardly out for a full minute. Am I being dumb, was this just her trying to move them back into the nest?

Mom just got anxious because she did not know what you were doing with her babies. She was not trying to hurt her babies.

Sometimes it’s easier for mom (and you) if you have a second nest all set up and just move everyone over, then remove the nest that needs cleaning and get it ready for the next time.
