Hello! I am registered for my first cat show, and I believe I am prepared, however I am a bit unsure on something. I am showing my cat in alter class, I only want fixed cats, but my partner and I are considering getting a different breed of cat our current is a wonderful cornish rex, and if we were to get another cornish rex we would stick with the same breeder who will also be at the show, however my partner would like a larger fluffier cat, we're hoping to meet breeders and get an idea for other breeds of cats although we have looked at and met quite a few it would be nice to figure out the breeders and also the personalities of the cats. Is it acceptable to ask people at the shows if they ever have retired adults available as we are almost exclusively interested in adults, would this be considered rude?

I don't think it is rude and you might find some breeders very appreciative of your request.

It can happen that cats are returned because something doesn't work out, like an allergy. Or someone becomes unable to care for their cat due to health or finance and asks to return the cat. Also there are sometimes cats being retired from breeding and looking for responsible new homes.
Good luck in your search.

What show are you going to?

In general breeders are always glad to answer questions about their cats. If they don't have any available they might direct you to another breeder or to a breed rescue.

I'm going to the ACFA one in Wisconsin this weekend. I've messaged people before finding my breeder who were very upset about that I asked if they ever had retired adults.

Most breeders that I know LOVE to be asked about retired adults!! It's not rude at all.

If a breeder thinks you are rude for asking a question like that... they aren't a breeder you want to work with, frankly.

That's true it's a real process to find a good breeder who you're comfortable with.
