Can anyone tell me what this is? I just moved into a new house with another male cat, around the same age as mine. They have been getting along really well but playing a little roughly (it’s definitely not fighting). It was a bigger scab about a week ago, I assumed it was from the rough play. It’s slowly been getting better and it doesn’t seem to bother him but obviously I’m still a little concerned about it. I don’t think it’s feline chin acne because it doesn’t resemble any of the pictures I can find online & his chin doesn’t and has never looked “dirty” in any way, which I know is a sign of this condition. It’s been there for a little while now (about 1.5 weeks), maybe because the scab is constantly touched/hit when the cats play. I would really appreciate any thoughts, comments, advice :)

Can you keep the cats in separate rooms for a while?

In my view, any wound that is not rapidly (days) recover should be referred to the vet. The vet is supposed to see many wounds and learnt about dermatitis, so I doubt the internet pictures can replace this experience and knowledge.

A workaround could be to show the cat (not the picture) to some cat shelters' staff. This cant replace the vet advice by no means but just offer a guide.

It could have been originally acne (or something else) but unfortunately cats sometimes make it worse by scratching. Did you check for fleas? Now that it's summer and there is a new cat in the house, make sure he's up to date on the flea medicine.

If I were you I would show the picture to the vet to ask if it prompts a physical exam or if it's OK to use an antiseptic for a week or two first and see how it goes. (And of course if it gets worse at any point, then I would take to the vet.)
