Because you'll need it eventually and it will store until then?

I tend to buy a lot when there is a good sale and not buy when there isn't. I do hold off if I know I already have a good stock pile.... Well unless the sale is really really good

Honestly, I get pleasure from buying new cat foods, putting it away and watching Olive try it. I think it’s fun even if it’s a regular food .... so I get it.

Whenever I find a good batch number of one of Milly's foods, I can't help myself: "Hey, this batch is a really good one! I have to stock up"

Some batch runs of her foods aren't consistently great ones; I feel I hit a goldmine when I know a certain batch number and expiry date is a "10".

We store non perishables like we're preparing for the third World War on top of the grid shutting down. If the shelf life is good, and you've got the space, it's smart to me to do that. What if the food gets re called, or you get sick (God forbid) and can't get around for awhile, or you get really bad weather, or the company changes the formula and you have a picky cat that needs a slow transition?
I'm not helping, am I

I'm not going to help, either, because I do it, too! I went on a cat food run yesterday and stocked up far more than I needed to. But, well, I was there and so was the food. (Part of his is because -- of course! -- I have to go to five different stores to buy cat supplies. I only went to three yesterday. Fortunately, that's all more convenient than it sounds...)

We spent a lot on pet food last month, but it stuffed two full freezers. It would probably last until February!

We literally just got an order from Chewy on Friday...then today I got an email about a local pet store that had all Fancy Feast products 20% off AND a 15% off your total purchase coupon...

We went and got two 24 packs of Fancy Feast.....:paperbag:

We get a coupon from our local pet store, $5 off a $30 purchase or $10 off a $50 purchase. We stock up on canned food for our IBD guy, dog treats, toys, etc.

I'm constantly buying canned cat food too,for some odd reason I find it relaxing
:paperbag: Oh, this all too familiar. (I guess it's oddly relaxing because we know we're ready to feed the cats!? Even so...)

I'm beginning to think this is a 'thing'
I had definitely, absolutely, completely done the budget for the week last Thursday and said 'no more of anything, especially cat stuff' until I came across Sundar's food on special... Four boxes of 12 later.... Oh, and Nilah's Greenies were reduced too......

I get snowed in every winter and even when the weather is good it's a long trek down to the supermarkets. If I see something the cats like on offer then I buy as much as I can carry. It's not like there's any chance I won't need cat food.

You guys have got to get yourselves a shed. Then you'd be able to bulk buy.

LOL, me too! I find buying cat food more of a stress reliever than shopping for my clothes!

What have we become?? :D

I,too, buy in bulk when it is on sale. I spend about a hundred and twenty a month on cat food, so any sale helps. I have bought cases of food if it is a good price the day after buying it for the week! I am lucky in one respect, if they don't care for it, the ferals NEVER turn it down! what really gets me is my housecats turning their noses up at really exclusive, expensive food, and then eating the cheap feral food like it is the best prime rib!

We don't set out to keep our kitty pantry full of cat food. It just kinda happens. :)

Our cats will love, love, love certain foods for a while. So we'll stock up to make sure we always have plenty of what they like, especially during hurricane season. Then the latest order from Chewy will arrive, and our cats suddenly decide that they absolutely hate everything that we just restocked.

So I'll drive all over the place to find other foods I think they might like, and just buy a couple of cans of each flavor. Then if they scarf them down, I'll go back to the stores and buy a few more cans to make sure it wasn't a fluke. Once I'm confident that we have some new favorites, I'll go ahead and order those foods by the case. Yeah, I'm sure you can guess what happens.

Fortunately, as the saying goes, "what's old is new again." A few months later when our kitties have tired of their current menu options, they can get pretty excited about some of the foods they had previously rejected.

That's my excuse anyway!

SO here is a fun idea ---- with all of the people on the site and the amount of cat food we all buy, instead of looking for good buys and coupons, we should cut out the middle man and negotiate with the manufacturers for bulk purchases. Stores usually have a pretty high markup, 40% and up, so we could likely get bulk food for less than half the retail cost. That's called taking advantage of your purchasing power. Distribution might be an interesting problem but if we can save enough on the food costs it would be worth the effort of doing it that way.
