Yay! I just popped in this morning to check on you and progress of the storm. So glad that you and kitties are staying safe and getting through this with power intact for the most part!
I hear the alligators are moving up. I have not seen any and hope I don’t. I hope I’m not a magnet for them too! :help: Later gator!
This comment reminded me of a conversation I was having with my mother yesterday regarding the gators that are moving up.
Me: "Ugh - not a fan! Wonder what benefits they provide for the ecosystem to justify their existence?"
Mom: Flippant response"...well, they DO provide beautiful shoes, belts, and purses.." I love that woman.

Thanks for checking in, Jcatbird! Hope that you're getting some needed rest while you wait out the storm!

tnrmakessense tnrmakessense I just got a signal due to the storm. I was just going to check in and quickly post while I have power but found your post. I don’t know what happened and I wish I had found your message earlier! Bad timing to lose signal! I hope you are okay!:alright: We do go through so much. Doing this kind of work pushes us to our limits sometimes,( or maybe a bit beyond?) Do try to hang on. You can always vent here if it helps. You’ll find lots :clap2::heartshape:of support from a lot of people who care. People can be overwhelming, disgusting, frustrating, etc. etc. etc. I will say though, if you sift through the pile of humans, you do find good ones. It’s a search that is worth the effort. I found a whole pile of good ones right here! :banana1:
Right everyone!?!?!?!
Round of encouragement and applause for tnrmakessense tnrmakessense :grouphug2::clap2::clap2::clap2::heartshape:
:bouquet:
I hope you come back to tell us about anything you face. Maybe we can help in some way. I can assure you that we will be sending you :vibes::redheartpump:and :sunshine:
I am going to send this out before I lose signal again but will try to come right back. I try to put up posts to help us get through. The kitties make that possible for me. I’ll ask them to see if they can get some love and a smile sent out on the winds of the storm to wherever you are. :wave2:
You are so incredibly generous. I'm in Florida too, so I know how much energy and angst there is when you're preparing for a hurricane with a house full of creatures. That you STILL had the energy to be so kind to me is amazing and appreciated more than you can know. I loved the pictures of the frogs. And of course the kitties. And that dancing banana emoji made my morning.

I do have a question. Actually I think in writing and re-writing this I've answered my question. I've come upon a feral with an injured leg. Not just a limp - it looks to be atrophied. So I'll trap and get him to a vet but I know that I can't in good conscience release him with limited mobility so he's going to have to come in to an already very crowded condo not just to recover but to become socialized and part of the family so please send good thoughts my way.

To all our dear friends! Thank you for sending care and love. Even a hurricane couldn’t stop it! Lol We STILL wait for the main part of the storm! This storm moves at a snails pace! Power and signals have been going out. We are all okay though. I am tired but going to grab a bit of sleep before the “predicted” worst part comes. :rolleyes3:

So far, most of the critters here are staying in the shelters provided. Smart critters. Froggie is the exception! Froggie! I opened the door a tiny bit to listen to the wind and .....Froggie joined us inside. Apparently he wanted out of the storm and he was hungry. After he had a bite of kitty food, I told him he had to go back out. I gave him a ride.View attachment 298805
After a nice shower....

He got on his usual spot but then jumped back on me! :D I noticed the rain is kind of cold so I put him in the frog shelter.
View attachment 298803
He seemed content to have a more comfortable bed but he really wanted to be with Banjo. You can’t sleep with Banjo! Her Dad would not approve! Stay Froggie!View attachment 298807
I did get the feeling he would jump back in the door if he got a chance. :p

Who let the frogs out? Who, who, who who.... Who let the frogs out?

I don’t know how much of this thread you have read but it contains the road I bumped along as I found kitties and a path through rescuing. Many others have contributed their stories and experiences and together, we have all learned a lot. The cats have rewarded us with love and some fairytale endings. I hope you will join us. :bouquet:
To those still in the path of Dorian, stay safe. :hugs:
Have a great night/morning everyone!
:heartshape:
Speaking of Florida creatures, I had an elderly neighbor that would invite me over under the guise of having a glass of wine and then have me grout her bathroom or caulk a window. One day she came banging on my door demanding that I take care of the snake near the mailboxes. It was a python. I was so pissed that she expected me to rush out and take care of a PYTHON that I went over, put a pet carrier by it's front end and urged it in - clearly it was someone's pet. Anyway, he went to rescue. Amazing how easy it is to find rescue for a python; not so much for cats.

We’re baaaack! :bunnydance::woo:
It was a very long night! Now I am watching over friends in the areas north!
Dorian! I told you to go away! Stop harassing our friends and kitties!
South Carolina friends!!!! Hoping you are okay! North Carolina too! I put the kitties back to trying to disintegrate the storm with good vibrations! :purr::purr::purr::purr::purr::purr::purr:

I just got back online. Signals were awful!
I am tired now. Been clearing a lot of smaller debris and checking on friends. Before the storm I had sent a message out to offer shelter to my foster friend who has a Mom cat with a litter and fosters. She is on an island so.... I worry. I set up places for those kitties and her family in case it was needed but they stayed there. She has a feral colony she helps with too and I know she worried but if things had gotten bad she did have a place to bring as many as she could transport. When I got a signal, I messaged that the kitties here were all helping me blow the storm away from her. I lost signal just after it went out. About an hour later I heard my phone alert me a text had come through! Wow! I checked immediately. It was from her! It read simply” Tell the kitties to keep blowing. It’s working!” Right after I got that my signal died again. If I could only get one message.... that was a good one to get. There were trees down, lots of debris, power lines down and a couple of fires but it wasn’t near the storm others experienced. No reports of any kitties hurt. Very, very grateful.

13 tornados have struck two states. North Carolina must be alert in the early of hours of the morning. Many there were terribly affected last year. Hopes, love, vibes and prayers going out to all still in the possible path. If Dorian stays off landfall, it will help a lot. The northwest part is giving the most problems. We got very lucky here.

tnrmakessense tnrmakessense You are well aware of the storm prep exhaustion! Whew. Now I have to put everything back!
:thud:
I was very glad you posted here though. My heart went out to you right away.Perfect time for me to get my signal back.
Your neighbor seems very dependent on your help. You are great to be there for them. A python! Yesh! I have no problem handling reptiles but much prefer kitties and frogs. My brother rescued a dragon last year. Lol I wish people would take responsibility for the creatures they take on. Losing track of your pet python? Really? Probably dumped. No creature deserves that. That always makes my blood boil. Allowing non native creatures to get loose in Florida has resulted in a lot of problems too. You did the community a great service by taking the python to a shelter.
You did answer your question the same way I would have. We end up saving those that need us so desperately. Poor kitty. So relieved you will help him. More than sending good thoughts your way. Toughts, vibes, purrs, love, hope, happiness and every other good thing possible. :vibes: I know others will be too! Please keep writing. We’d love to hear about your resident kitties along with updates on the hurt kitty.

W walli Absoluetly feed a hungry frog. Lol If something needs food, gotta help it until it can feed itself. I have raised some creatures for release a long time ago. Including a couple of young gators. :eek2: That was a very brief thing. They went to an experidnced gator person very quickly! They actually make the saddest call for their mommy! Apparently Mom was hit by a car. I don’t know all their part in the chain of the ecosystem but I do know they eat snakes. A lot of snakes that are “exotic pets” have started dominating the Everglades. It’s a terrible problem. The gators are helping with that to some extent. They can’t stop it but I imagine it would be much worse without them.
However!!!!
rubysmama rubysmama I love the “no gator” sign! I don’t want any near me! I’d make a snack sized bite! Lol I did respond to that thread and will be going back to answer in depth after a bit of R&R.

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 This is the place to be! Cat lovers United give us all strength and support. It certainly has helped to carry me!
Best friends has done so much to save kitties and advance education/kitties rights. Everyone should check them out. I know from personal experience that they are doing some great, great things. Their work to aid in spreading TNR benefitted areas around here. They have my support. Thank you for the link!
Oops! A Banjo is playing in my lap! Be right back!

I didn’t want Shreds or pate’! Royal Canin for a Prince!

Norachan Norachan Thank you! I got through. Lol I know about cutting a way out. I have been blocked by trees once. It’s an odd feeling to be surrounded that way. When the water comes up here it’s a similar feeling. I remember one storm you weathered. Have you seen the most recent kitty? Little Wanda Heart arrived in the dark. Thanks to the other kitties, she came in. She was a sick baby then but doing very well now.

Buffster7 Buffster7 If an alligator tries anything here, I’m not stopping to makes shoes! I’m making tracks!
There’s no rest for the weary. The reports kept coming that “ the worst of the storm is coming soon.” Okay.... I kept waiting , waiting, uhhhh..... went to bed after the waiting. Lol This morning my landline started ringing early. A call that my “, vehicle warranty would expire.” Wha????? I don’t have a vehicle warranty. I drifted back off..... ringing again, would I donate to...... unh! Where’s the mute button?!?!? :flail:

I finally gave up and got up when I realized a cat paw was on my bottom lip. I felt my lip being moved. Then I heard a meow. I had the strangest feeling the cats had been having some fun while I slept. Mom as ventriloquist dummy. :gingercat: Who did that?!?!? By the time I opened my eyes, cats were scattering.

I did find some gifts when I got up. Apparently the storm put a lot of stress on the kitties. I don’t know if it had to do with pollen carried on the wind, atmospheric pressure or just ancowry but I had five, FIVE, hair balls to be removed from the house. Thank goodness the hot water was okay! Mop!!! I know one was from Bonjure and I know he had been really nervous. I could not assign the others to specific cats. Two in the cat room, one in the bedroom, one in the kitchen ( really gross, found it with my foot soon after getting up) and one in a carrier. I felt really bad for the kitties. I guess I am fortunate I didn’t get one per cat. Wanda Heart seemed oblivious to everything outside of playing. That made me feel better. She was not scared at all the whole time. I’m so glad I got her inside before any of this came up. I would have been spending the night outside in the rain with her otherwise. I’ve done that before and the kitty was dry under a tarp, content with me there but I was soaked from the waist down!
Furballsmom Furballsmom Agreed! That was the best kind of message.
M maggiedemi Hoping tomorrow brings you some peace of body and mind

I have done my cat chores and a little more work outside. Done with supper and just plain tired. The cages and carriers remain. The kitties are all snoozing. The storm had them pretty anxious so they are tired too. I am hoping for a quiet rest and that no one plays with my face tonight. Lol Or that I sleep through it. Either way is fine by me.

It’s time for a smile. I didn’t take a lot of photos today but these really show the atmosphere her right now. When you’re truly tired, you can sleep almost anywhere.

Slightest sound of snoring. Shhhhh.

Oh, you've got a little ginger girl? :heartshape:

Well, there's a coincidence. I spent the whole summer coaxing a young ginger tom closer.

Fergus McGinger is a bit too friendly for a feral cat, I think he was dumped. He's been neutered and vaccinated and has already been inside a few times. He comes for food twice a day. If I have time to sit outside with him he'll lie in my lap for a while.

Fergus13.jpg

I'm doing introductions with the rest of the gang through the enclosure fence. He's already made a couple of friends. I'm hoping to bring him inside permanently soon.

Glad to hear you all made it through with nothing worse than a few hairballs.

It is good to see that you and the kitties made out okay. Better to be prepared and not needed than otherwise.
How is Wanda Heart doing? Is she ready to meet the others, or is that a ways off yet? In your pictures she sure looks like she is becoming more of a normal, healthy kitten.

Jcatbird Jcatbird that is the CUTEST pic of Froggie Prince refusing the gushyfudz! Just the sweetest little frog I've ever heard about. So glad all are safe and that your lip is intact (so far :paranoid:) And you haven't lived until you've stepped on a furball in the middle of the night. I pity those who don't have these joys in life. :bliss:Wanda Heart is looking more adorable all the time!
Norachan Norachan Fergus is a very handsome lion kinglet! Wishing you, and him, quick progress on integrating him into the clowder.
