Hey guys, so i got myself a little kittie 2 weeks ago, and i was wondering if it is worth buying him a bed. I know that cats like to sleep a lot so is a bed worth it? If so can someone recommend me a couple beds i can choose??

Although I have bought a cat bed in the past I have to admit that not one of them has used it very often. They either use my bed or the dog's bed.

A nice warm place to sleep is very good to have. But it could be a sweater or the couch. Doesn’t necessarily have to be a new bed.

I have more luck with cats sleeping exactly where I don't want them to. Pretty much every cat bed I've ever purchased ends up being donated or collecting dust. Right now the cat beds are all in the catio and do get used out there; but I think that has more to do with there not being any softer surfaces to lay on.

To answer the question, a cat bed is not a *need*. I'd put a good scratching post or cat tree higher on the list of needed cat furniture then a bed.

Second the vote for a good scratching post/cat condo over a bed! The condos usually have platforms on them and those are among Marple and Radish's favorite places to sleep. Also popular: The floor, pieces of carpet, their carriers, the bottom shelf of a bookshelf, and an old basket with a blanket folded up inside. The actual cat bed I bought has never been used. :/

I have a fleece throw I fold and where ever I put it they sleep on it, even on my lap. Its cheap and easy to wash.

Most cats like privacy especially when sleeping, so I suggest an igloo type of bed in case you buy one. But it is not necessary especially if your cat sleeps with you.

In my case, the cat bed is 20 bucks worth of foot-warmer that I use in the TV room. None of the cats will go near it. As one earlier poster wrote, a couple old blankets seem to work as well if not better, and they're easier to wash.

I have found over the years an electric cat warming pad is very favored by all my cats. They only cost as much as a 25watt light bulb to run, and I had to get one for each cat because they would fight over who gets to sleep on it. put it under a fleece blanket and you have the perfect cat bed. In fact, they will sleep WHEREVER you put it!

My cat loves cat beds. We have a lot. Everywhere. None are wasted. But she'll sleep in a lot of places and on a lot of things, so I don't think they are necessary.

... If so can someone recommend me a couple beds i can choose??
We have several of these, they come in a few colors and are just 10 bucks:

You can also look on chewy-dot-com,
https://www.chewy.com/s?rh=c:325,c:425,c:1473

note: some cats love the larger size of dog beds.

I make a lot of her blankets and beds, too, so you can do that as well.

I bought my kitty a igloo style cat bed before we got her (we wanted to be fully set up before she came home). She only uses it for playing though. Her preferred beds are the top of her cat tree, the edges of the couch, or our own bed when we're asleep. I second the cat tree!

You most likely already have an appealing "bed" at home: the laundry basket, a shoe box, an Amazon box waiting to go out on recycle day, a pile of dirty laundry, the sofa. You can buy fancy expensive beds and toys and stuff for the cat and the cat will just ignore all of it in favor of stuff you already have in the house. Just buy bare basics for now (litter box, litter, bowls for food and water, a carrier) and add things over time.

When I first got Fluffy, almost 12 years ago, we got her a cat bed. She used it a little, but it eventually just collected dust. At my old house she would be out in the sun room in one of the chairs, but she commandeered my old baby blanket and so we've used it to lay on whatever chair she chose to sleep on. Nowadays she just prefers sleeping on our bed wherever she can.
The new kitten, Eevee, will sleep wherever usually on the couch, bed, etc. More often than not I'll find her sleeping on the top of the recliner or in her little cardboard box.
So definitely no official cat bed necessary for these kitties! :p

Not so much a dedicated bed, but I would recommend a cat tree instead. Something with a scratching post on the bottom, a perch at the top, and maybe a hide hole in the center. If you place it by a window, especially if it gets some sunlight and warmth, you should get good use out of it. You can use a squeegee to remove cat hair from it when you need to clean it. This will be easier than trying to vacuum it.

None of my Cats use any of the beds I've bought, but they all love the scratchers and towers. Infact I've never seen a Cat that did not like a tower, tree, condo, etc. so you may want to consider one of those for your first bit of Cat furniture.

:dunno: I must hold the market on cat beds. Instead of my cat being called the cat with nine lives, we call her the cat with nine beds.

I went on a cat bed binge once on a chewy - there was a sale - and they have used them for months and then turned their nose up at some point for no reason. We have had cheap scratchy ones that were loved as well as a slightly procure orthopedic memory foam that gets use.

Olive also loves scratchier materials. She slept on the bed last night on my BF’s jeans. So it depends on the cat.
