I finally got the calls I've been waiting for.
First one was from 'Publishers Clearinghouse' saying that I won 5 million and a new BMW. I said "and of course you want me to pay shipping fees". "No ma'am, we don't". "Then what do you want from me?" "We just need you to be there to confirm delivery." "Well, I'm here." click. Haven't yet received my 5 mil.

Next one is funny. It started off as automated from 'SSI"
pressed one to talk to an 'officer'.
him: "Could you give me your full name and SSN so I can pull your file."

me: "No, you called me, you should have that information"

him: F*** you...click

I'm dying. I have way too much fun with these people.
Oh, that's nothing. I've gotten email from Gates and other billionaires wanting to give me money. NO, I'm not for sale. Not any ANY price. I'd prefer you give it to cats in need, friends. :yess:

I've never got those, but man that would be a hoot.

I don't have much of a social life- I don't really like people - so I have to get my entertainment where I can. And honestly, it is fun to mess with these people.

I like compassionate, kind people a lot. Sadly, there aren't a lot of those around. I'm fortunate to live in a neighborhood where I have several good neighbors (all cat lovers, of course) and some good friends all over the world, but not a lot close by that I can just hang out with. No problem -- I like to work and I work 365 days a year. But yeah, I like joking around. When I was growing up, a bunch of friends and I used to play phone pranks (entirely harmless, not mean) on people. But now, I just don't have the time or the patience for the (expletive deleted) that call.

I had an outing yesterday, doc appt. The insurance arranges rides for me. I had Lyft yesterday and they are usually very good but I had to wait 2 hours for a ride home. I was outside waiting and received a text saying my driver was there. Look for a blue Subaru Outlander (?). He never showed so I called back. I was then told by text to look for another driver blah, blah. They never showed. Well this went on and on. Finally a driver showed up. I was so glad to get home. The driver was very nice and we had a nice chat on the way home. I usually like being outside but it was sooo hot. It felt good to come in the door with my house being nice and cool. I changed from yoga pants to pj bottoms and crashed for 2 hours.
Best sleep I've had in a long time.

Supposed to be near 90 today..can't wait for cooler weather.

Graceful-Lily Graceful-Lily How is it going with the strays? Are you going to keep the one who looks like Felix?

That's an awfully long wait. Did you send in a complaint to the company?

We aren't sure about all that yet. I'll wait until the kittens are weaned and she's looked after before making a decision. There's just too much going on here right now to say 'yes' and know I mean it 100%.

I've heard the same thing about Lyft from someone I know well. I always use Uber. They've always been good for me.
*YOU AND ME BOTH* on cooler weather! Can't get here fast enough for us.

There is only one here too. We used to have both a landline and internet and the bill was around $100 a month. We got rid of the landline and the internet only bill is $51. Switched from Verizon to Tracfone (which is actually Verizon) and dropped the bill to $20 a month for phone.
Ask your provider. There may be an internet only plan which is much much cheaper than a package plan.
Nope, it is MORE to drop my package plan and just go internet.

I had cable and internet coming through the same line so had to get a splitter ($3.00) so I could connect both, cable was included in my rent and internet (slow as molasses) was $25.00 so I did not complain. How much this will run me here I don't know. I dropped my landline a few years ago so I don't remember how much that was, maybe $40? a month besides my cell, too much for something I really did not need. Once I have my own home here again I will find out how much all of that is.
It's hot and dry out but cool in evenings and at night. Went to a park next to the Truckee river around 4 (the hottest part of the day), nice and cool under the trees, people swimming and wading or just dipping their feet in the water and that in the middle of the city! Reno is amazing in that respect. Here's proof:

yes that's me in the red shirt, not dipping my feet in yet although the boot is off. Still in pain somewhat and being VERY careful with that foot until it does not swell ever which it still does after walking or not keeping it elevated for a long time. But certainly getting better,

After seeing the last episode of Dr. Oz and hearing that essential oils are deadly to our cats, I threw away the plug in air freshener that uses an oil. I read up on line about different types of air fresheners. Apparently a cat's liver doesn't have the enzymes to get rid of the chemicals in them. I had an ah ha! moment. Maybe that's why my kitty has been vomiting occasionally for a long time and the vet can't find a reason for it. I'll see if things improve after she's had time to get it out of her system from grooming and ingesting the stuff.
It's been two weeks since I made this post. My kitty hasn't vomited EVEN ONCE since then. She's eating the same food and no changes in anything else either. I think getting rid of the air freshener was the solution! All the expense at the vet to get her tested for illness and he never suggested it could be something in the house causing it.

I'm so happy that she's doing better and that I don't have to clean up a mess every few days. :happycat: :woohoo:

Just came back from the hospital. Turns out my herniated discs got a lot worse. I couldn't walk more than a few minutes before, now I can't sit long either. Doctor recommended that I start physical therapy immediately yet I can't afford it. (Not that it does much, it just relieves pain for a couple months, I tried it before) So he prescribed a bunch of pain killers, but they won't work (I tried them before) Just another great news about my health this year. Like parathyroid problems and hematologic problems that were discovered this year weren't enough.:cloudy:

So sorry, Count. What kind of health care do they have in Turkey? Is it social?

segelkatt segelkatt Beautiful pics and you are lovely!! Red is your color!!

Graceful-Lily Graceful-Lily Sounds like a good plan about the kittens. Yes I complained.
We'll see if it does any good.

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 I can't choose the ride service. The insurance only started using
Uber and Lyft because the medical ride services were so bad. I had to wait 3.5 hours a few years ago, for a ride home. Another
woman was stuck at Pain Management at the Cleveland Clinic, where I am a patient, till 8;00pm. It was happening so much that
they got approval for Uber and Lyft. They still use the medical ride services

There is the social option but there usually is a lot of pointless burocracy involved so it takes time to start and the health care quality is low. That is if I even qualify for physical therapy by their standards. There are semi-social options (private hospitals that take some money from government) and this is what I prefer. It is relatively cheap yet decent quality health care. I also have an insurance that covers the remaining costs, but they always have some excuse to not cover it. The problem is you only know if they cover it after the procedures so you have to pay if they refuse to pay and I won't be able to pay if they refuse. And there are some private hospitals that take all the money from you or your insurance (different kind of insurance from mine). I can't go to those at all as everything is really expensive there. They are mainly targeted at businessman and European health tourists.

It is not a big deal that I can't afford it anyway as I'm not sure if I would do it even if I could afford it. As I said it only helps for a couple of months.

Whoa, that's rough. I hear so many stories about Uber and Lyft. Majority, not so great. People still use it of course.

I know it's a challenging job but it shouldn't cost someone quality service. What if I were in a dark part of town, sun setting and I had to wait 3 hours for a ride? I'm finding other means of getting home. Waiting around that long could become problematic.

Perhaps it happens more often than we realize.

Do you have the Lyft app on your phone? Or do you just get a text message from the insurance company when they have a ride arranged for you?

Is there regular taxi service in your area?

That's awesome!! I'm really happy for you and your kitty!

Incidentally, when I did medical anthropology that office I worked out of was a huge fan of scented candles and air fresheners, and I was constantly dealing with asthma to the point I was prescribed both an inhaler and an EpiPen.

Since avoiding candles of all kinds as well as air fresheners I haven't had asthma at all and let the inhaler expire without using it once. That job ended in 2015. I am going back to school and have an appointment scheduled with the students with disabilities office sometime next week or definitely before September 10 to discuss requiring a scent free environment (among other issues). It's not worth it.

Hint: Cranberry works great for me on the asthma bit if I run into a public bathroom issue where I can't avoid the air fresheners (which is almost every public bathroom in this area and churches are also off limits now because they use candles copiously and I'd rather not deal with anaphylaxis in that setting, and I've also had to refuse job offers because it is apparently a perceived hardship to provide reasonable accommodation in the form of a scent free work place and they otherwise find an excuse to fire me real fast if I have an issue :hmmm: :sigh: :censored: ).

I don't have the app. They text me when they are at my destination. There is not a taxi service where I live but it would be too expensive if I used one from the surrounding areas. I don't have problems going to and from my Pain Management appts at The Cleveland Clinic and they are located about 30 miles from my house. I don't have to go back to the doc I saw on Monday till November, thank goodness!! They are about 8 miles from my house.
