Yup, not only are artificial sweeteners worse for you than real sugar, I don't care who you are, you will never be able to convince me that "it tastes the same". It's gross!
:yeah: ~ Let's have some real old-fashioned SodaPop please ... !

Soda. Some people around here call it "tonic".

I prefer Pepsi over Coke. Coke is too sweet IMO.

Sprite.

Canada Dry ginger ale.

Mountain Dew is just gross :barfgreen::barf:

Here in Minnesota it is mostly called Pop. Have to drink sugar and caffeine free so caffeine free diet Dr. Pepper is always in the house but sometimes I also buy Mug Root Beer or Diet Cherry 7Up. And lately I have been drinking a lot of the Ice brand flavored waters.

I call it pop.
I prefer Pepsi, 7Up (specifically Diet Cherry 7Up), and I don't like any ginger ale. I do like Crush and although I don't drink non-diet pop, I like the grape and strawberry varieties.
As for "off-flavor" pop, I like Diet Dr. Pepper.

I generally don't buy pop though because so much of it has caffeine and I don't drink caffeine. If/when I buy pop it's almost always Diet Cherry 7Up.

I'm having another seltzer! The other brand is Waterloo, and the flavors are Black Cherry and Grapefruit. Pamplemousse is my favorite La Croix flavor, but the Waterloo one has a stronger flavor that I like. And I don't normally like cherry flavor but this one is good. I hope Costco keeps carrying it.

I LOVED Mello Yello when I was a kid. My mom didn't like us to have sugary or caffeinated drinks, so I hardly ever got soda. But when I did, it was definitely Mello Yello. I tried it again a few years ago and YUCK. I don't know if the kind sold in the States is different from what's sold in Japan, or if the formula has changed, or if my tastes have changed. Either way, eww.

I grew up in Kansas and it was pop, I now call it soda. I usually just make plain carbonated water with the Sodastream. I will occasionally get a Coke or Pepsi, I prefer Coke but will drink Pepsi. I never cared for Ginger Ale. I am not a big fan of the lemon lime soda but I do occasionally like a cherry limeade which is primarily a little cherry juice and lime juice added to Sprite.

Neither over here. Soda is only soda water. We call them soft drinks. And I'm another nay-sayer, sorry.. too much sugar. :(

Orangina.
i just adore Orangina! :cloud9: though, it's been over a decade since i've bought it.

as for soda or pop, i'll say soda most times, and sometimes soda pop.

i make my soda at home, using a soda maker and flavored syrups. i'm not 'brand particular'. i like caffeine free cola, but haven't found it where i buy my flavored syrups. i love ginger ale -- and prefer Fox brand syrup (even willing to pay a smidge more for it, because it's not overly sweet and has a good ginger flavor). i also love root beer. other flavors i like are orange, grape, lemon, fruit punch, pink lemonade, and occasionally lemon-lime.

I say soda and never liked anything other than Coke, root beer, birch beer, cream soda or Dr. Pepper. About 9 or 10 years ago I thought I was drinking too much soda and stopped cold turkey. It was surprisingly easy, and the very few times I've had a soda since then it was way too sweet.

Soda. I love Coke. Last week I bought a 6 pack of the small 8 ounce bottles that we had when I was a kid. I usually get cans. I will drink other sodas but prefer Coke and I like root beer. Since I take medication in the morning I drink about 1/4 of a can and a few Tbls. of peanut butter to quell the nausea. I love sparking water, usually buy Shasta brand. I also love Jones brand soda, the strawberry lime is so good and its made with cane sugar. I love Coke and have one daily. Pepsi is too sweet for me.

@aliceneko What is orangeina?

So first... Is it pop or soda? What do you call your carbonated beverage?
Pop

Which do you prefer and why?
I've never drank much pop, but decided as a "New Years Resolution" to give up Pepsi/Coke, and so far haven't had Cola all year, and only a couple glasses of other pop.

My new favourite carbonated drink is NESTLÉ® PURE LIFE® Sparkling Carbonated Water, Lemon Flavour. No sugar or artificial sweeteners, with a touch of lemon and the fizzy bubbles.

Pepsi or Coke?
Pepsi, but would drink Coke. Hate the "no name" Colas though

Sprite or 7Up?
Sprite

What brand of Ginger Ale do you like?
Either Canada Dry or Schweppes

What "off flavor" pop do you like, if any?
A&W Root Beer

By whatever name, it's persona non grata here, because it's really bad for health and the environment in those throw-away plastic bottles.
Back when the dinosaurs roamed, and I was young, pop came in glass bottles which you returned and were reused. There was a deposit on the bottles, which you got back when you returned them. The deposit encouraged people to return them, as well not to litter. And if they did litter, someone else would pick up the bottle to return and get the deposit. So though still bad for health, it wasn't as bad for the environment.

I call it Soda. No one around here that I now of calls it Pop.

I prefer coke because I like the taste better. I have no use for Pepsi what so ever. Pepsi is not allowed in my house. EVER!

Seagram's which is made by Coke.

Orange Crush.

I used to feel the same way in the Coke/Pepsi debate ( anyone remember the Pepsi challenge?).

Then I tried the real sugar Pepsi. it's better than the Coke with the corn syrup.

Seagram's ginger ale is definitely the best.

I loved all of those, too, jcat jcat , and my grandma was from Texas. In Texas, you drink Dr. Pepper. That's all there is to it. :insertevillaugh: So when we went to her house every weekend, that's what we'd have with her world's BEST fried chicken and fixins. My dad used to buy Shasta by the case and he'd pick all different flavors. We loved it. My mom loved cream soda and so did I. My best friend when I was small (and still to this day!) and our moms used to walk to this deli close to their house and get phosphates. That's carbonated water with syrup. We usually had chocolate ones. Sometimes vanilla. They were so good! I love all those drinks, but they're just too bad for health.

It''s soda water or soft drinks in Texas.

I don't like either Pepsi or Coke. They taste like cleaning fluid to me. If I drink cola, it's Royal Crown (RC) Cola.

I prefer 7-Up over Sprite.

I'm a Dr. Pepper addict. There, I've admitted it.

I like good cream soda, but since Nehi quit producing it, I haven't found a good brand although I've tried many. The same with red and blue cream sodas.

I'm still searching for the right root beer, too.

I don't like those sparking waters that have virtually fruit flavor.

I'm not really into grape, strawberry, or orange flavors, especially grape.

We have quite a few craft soft drinks but none of them impress me.

I do like the powdered Lipton Peach iced tea a whole lot, though. We always have a gallon pitcher of either it or mint tea made with Lipton iced tea bags and spearmint straight from the garden. Ahhh, bliss!

I say soft drink or cold drink.

I can drink Coke in a pinch. I much prefer Pepsi.

I don't like Sprite or 7 Up, but I enjoy Sundrop and Mt. Dew. I have a celebratory one about once a year because I tend to get kidney stones. :cringe:

I am a scandalous nurse who is having an affair with Dr. Pepper. I love him, uh, it? And Mr. Pibb is the man if I am in the Deep South. Cheerwine is a great drink, though like Sundrop, I am not sure if it is just a regional treat.

Backl in my youth, shortly after cats were domesticated, my family would travel from Nebraska (and latter, Maryland) to Louisiana for family reunions and holiday visits.

I noticed that in the north, soft drinks wer called "pop". In the South, the common term was "soda". Maybe an occasional "soft drink". And the South had a wide variety of regional soft drinks.

NeHi -- a grape soda. Orange Crush, Dr Pepper. Plus Coca Cola. As you went South coke picked up a strong "twang" -- that's the only word that fits. Made the cokes from up north seem very bland.

On the day of the family reunion cookout and picnic, there would be at least one number three washtub full of ice and four or five types of soft drinks.

For the adults there would be at least one wash tub of ice and beer. Since the parish where we held the reunion was dry, one of the adults had to make a beer run to a wet parish. I think it was seven or eight cases. But we had a turnout of over 160 people at the height.

Dr. Pepper originated in Dallas Texas.

Now a days, I drink only sugar free coke and Pepsi.

My apologies for running on, folks, but the topic brought back many memories.....

I can do without soda/pop for the most part, but I'd prefer Coke over Pepsi. I probably drink a can of it every 18 months or so.
I've heard them called "fizzy drinks" in the UK.
W Willowy mentioned seltzer water, and I do like those in the summer. We get some lemon lime ones, add a lemon or lime wedge to them and serve over ice with a straw (paper umbrella is optional ;))
I always liked 7-up over Sprite, but both are OK. 7-Up always tasted crisper to me, where Sprite tasted a little more syrupy.
When it's hot, nothing (to me) beats ice water.
