On Sunday, Rick and I had gone down to Lowes to pick up more insulation, baffles, and such. Rick backed the truck up to the shed, I unlocked the shed door, put my keys on the truck, and we started to carry stuff inside. We went in the house, gave the kids their lunch, and then Rick went out and brought the truck around so that we could go over to my sister's to get their ladder system. Came back home, unloaded the ladder system. And that was that.

Until Monday morning when I couldn't find my keys to go to work. And then it hit us. Suffice to say that Rick did a lot of lecturing and I did a lot of "Look, I'm sorry!" And yeah, I know....sorry doesn't cut it; he told me that a million times. Rick spent Monday morning walking along the road looking for my keys. When I got home last night, I was all over the yard and the driveway and I walked along the road, too. Nothing.

We can't drive the Tucson until I get a new fob and key. The old fob doesn't work right anymore; the battery is going bad in that fob and we never bothered to get it fixed. When I tried to use the key to unlock the door, the alarm went off and we had a heckuva time getting that to shut back down. So I need a new fob and, while I'm at it, I might as well get the battery replaced in the other fob.

Thankfully I had my other key to Clarence; that's how I'm driving. Rick is coming into town on Wednesday, so he'll have new house keys, shed keys, etc. made. I'm calling down to the garage this morning to see what I need to do about the Tucson's keys. I need to talk to my boss today about getting a new passcard to the building and we're going to need new keys drilled for my office. We have a skeleton key in the department and I'm using that to get into my office. My boss wasn't here yesterday, so I need to talk to him today. I can just him doing the face-palm thing. (I remember when my co-worker lost his office key many years ago; did not go over well.)

I cannot believe I was that stupid. It's just too much crap going on anymore and I can't keep up with everything. I think my brain is full. (And yeah, I'll take some cheese with that whine!)

I talked to the garage and have an appt to get a new fob. Meanwhile, it takes about two minutes to put a new battery into the old fob, so I'll run down over lunch and get that done.

Hey its ok. Don't beat yourself too much. The other day my husband dropped the car key down to the gap between the elevator and the floor, because he was too busy answering messages on his phone - much to my horror.

We went home by Uber that day, and of course another Uber ride again the next morning to office.

What keys did you lose exactly? If it was car keys, house key, shed key, etc. you may want to consider getting new locks just to be safe.

Sounds like you could use a metal detector to scan the yard.

I just wanted to let you know that the fobs, if not used regularly, lose their programming and have to be reprogrammed. It is easy to do yourself, but kinda lengthy. Google reprogramming your car's fob and print it out. We thought ours had a bad battery, but it just needed to be programmed. To avoid this switch fobs every once in a while.

When the kids were babies I started clipping my keys either to my belt loop or to my purse because when your busy; it's too easy to drop something and not notice. I hope you find them. Would someone turn them in to a police station?

Did you look in the bumper of the truck? They may have fallen in there and got stuck.
I'm not sure what you mean by a fob key. But if you mean the key that you hit a button and it unlocks the door, these take about 30 seconds to replace. I've replaced mine before when the battery died. Just take a small screwdriver, pop off the top, and replace the battery. It's a watch battery, so it's easy to find.

Just yesterday a co worker dropped her water bottle. Who has never done that or lost their keys, tripped over something, dropped a dish, tried to open the wrong car door, and so on. My sis said she sat on a bee and got stung by a wasp at the same time. That has not happened. Too many mistakes. That would be a good thread to start

My DH lost the keys to our second car, no idea where or how he lost them. We called around, drove by places we had been and looked, nothing. We got a new key made (no fob) so he has to manually unlock and lock the doors. He felt really bad, and I managed to refrain from lecturing. We all do things like that some times.

It happens to everyone. :hugs: DH accidentally left his keys at the beach. Car keys, house key, the keys to his business. Fortunately, I had a house key with me, there were extra keys at our house, and the vacation home belonged to relatives. We were able to be reunited with them thanks to my cousin.

A Sgt. that I worked with at the prison lost his keys and was afraid to tell management for about three days. Not only were these keys to every building on the premises, they included gate keys! A very dangerous situation if they had fallen into the wrong hands. It ended up involving lock changes. And I wouldn't have wanted to be in the Sgt.'s shoes when he had to face the music (though he should have reported immediately).

I'm sorry you're going through so much trouble. :alright:

Thanks guys! When we start having trouble, I consider it a reminder to enjoy the good days more often! As the locksmith told me yesterday at work, "Poop happens! It's how you wipe that counts!" A bit of a different perspective there.

Got my new office key and passcard.

We went down to the car garage last night and got new batteries for the key fob. While it will open the car door now, I have to be right next to the door or it won't work. The guy said the fob itself is going bad. And although I tried to reset the system in the car, I still HAVE to use the fob to open the door. Can't use the key; the door won't open. They'll look at it when I take the car down to get things re-programmed and get the new fob. Meanwhile, we can now drive the car, if we have to. I'm still driving Clarence.

Rick's coming into town today. He'll get me the new keys that I need.

I asked Rick about new locks for the house and shed. I'm kind of paranoid about it. He is not. I hope we'll be OK. I am looking in the Lost and Found of our local newspaper to see if anybody posted that they found keys.

di and bob di and bob I found a link: How to Reprogram Key Fobs Yourself
I may try it. When I take the car down to the garage, they're going to re-program everything so that should somebody find the keys, they can no longer use the fob to access my car.

You can buy fobs online for a lot less than what the dealership charges. I did and they work! My new vehicle only came with one key and no fobs. It's hard to find places that will cut a chip key though. I'll probably have to do that at the dealership.

The worst part is that you'll probably find your old keys the day after you get all the replacements .
