today i'll wash the dishes, scoop the litter boxes, make 2 liters of soda (that didn't get made yesterday), and spend some time with my budget and on some planning.

after that, i'll play some computer games, continue with a jigsaw puzzle, and watch some tv.

I got done pretty much everything I wanted to do yesterday, except for Bona-ing the kitchen floor, but I did do the computer room floor and the bathroom floor. I also washed windows. I also made the cookie batter for Chocolate Brownies, a decadent chocolate cookie. I was going to make Snickerdoodles, but I'm out of Crisco. I got five quarts of split pea soup done; I used the ham bone and remnants of our Easter ham.

Rick was frustrated; he drove to Pittsburgh and back. For a 3-hour meeting on Saturday morning. He was home yesterday by 4:00. I was in the midst of making split pea soup when he got home. That worked; he loves split pea soup.

In my quest to get things used up, I've noticed that the pantry closet is becoming bare. My baking lazy Susan now has no chocolate chips at all, nor do I have any baking chocolate anymore. Other than a few cans of kidney beans, a jar of canned peaches, a couple jars of Eagle Brand condensed milk, and some cans of tomato products, the basement pantry contains nothing. And we think we could now fit everything from both freezers into the chest freezer. Once we do that, I'm going to sell my parents' upright freezer; we don't need two freezers anymore. The chest freezer is newer than the upright, so we're keeping the chest.
  • Breakfast for the kids, emptied the dishwasher, and am sitting back here with my morning coffee. I'll scoop the boxes in a bit. Rick stripped the bed and put the sheets in the washer before taking his morning nap. I'm going to bake those cookies this morning.
  • Four loads of laundry to do (and I did two loads yesterday: towels and some of my clothes for work that I don't want mixed in with other stuff).
  • I did vacuum yesterday and brushed The Beast out while she and I were outside, but the living room could use another vacuum today.
  • Visit with Rick's mom and take some cookies up to her. I haven't baked much lately because of the heat and humidity and she asked me when I was going to start baking again. She loves those cookies.
Tomorrow's Monday....back to work. :sigh:

Today will be slightly crazy. I have to do a weeks worth of work today since I will be gone all week, babysitting my grand daughter, Isabelle. I have to bathe and groom Mimi and Sterling to keep them in show condition, comb as many of the other pets as possible, take Mimi for her rabies shot at a local clinic, do groceries, laundry, clean the house, do litterboxes - empty, wash and refill. I know I am not going to get everything done - still feeling lousy from yesterday. I spent the day on the couch and bed yesterday. Had a stomach bug.

Did my least favorite summer chore today and that is weeding the gardens. It has been blazing hot for so long I just couldn’t bring myself to do it. Parts were so thick with weeds I actually took the hedge trimmer to them. Anyway the gardens were weeded and everything picked up and bagged. Finished the day with something else in my to do list and that was arranging for my security system upgrade. Found out that going from a basic system to one where I can arm or disarm my system on my tablet or phone was going to cost me a whole 40 cents more a month.

  • Gave the kids breakfast, emptied the dishwasher, and sorted laundry. Rick put the first load in the washer. Stripped the bed down. Scooped litter boxes. Made a New York Style Crumb Cake (Cook's Illustrated) to go with sliced strawberries for our dessert tonight.
  • Vacuumed, did a quick Swiffer about the house, and finished three loads of laundry.
  • Rick and I went to Lowes to get (hopefully) the last of the wall insulation and the ceiling insulation. We also got more baffles for the ceiling. And while we were there, we got ten pieces of beadboard for me to start conditioning and staining; we think we're going to need about 40 pieces for the ceiling vault. We looked at wooden floors while we were there, but didn't buy anything. As we go, we put everything on the Lowes card to get the 5% off, then I pay the bill at the end of the month.
  • And then we went over to my BIL's to pick up his ladder system so that Rick can get up into the vault of the ceiling without having to use a step ladder. The ladder system is safer.
  • We're going to visit with Rick's mom tonight. We'll take some cake and strawberries for her so she has a snack.
We also figured out how to deal with feeding the kids their canned food without having to refrigerate any leftovers. We were giving Molli, Tabby, and Amber 1/3 of a can for breakfast, with Pepe and Muffin getting 1/2 a can. We did the same thing for their supper. Pepe needed the half can, but Muffin really doesn't and she's been gaining some weight. A bit of dry kibble for their lunch. That took us through four cans of cat food a day.

Now, we started feeding 1/4 can for each cat for breakfast, another 1/4 for lunch, and another 1/4 of a can for supper. As their snack, they still get a wee bit of dry kibble and some hairball treats. I think it's better this way anyway; they're getting smaller canned meals, but more meals a day. Three cans a day instead of four. And no leftovers. Each cat gets 3/4 of a can instead of 2/3 of a can over the day. So far, they're taking to this well.

We've never had only four cats. Somehow, it seems almost too easy. I told Rick I think we need to adopt a couple kittens. Did NOT go over well!

doing some laundry; want to get it done before it gets too hot and humid as I don't want to have the dryer on when the a.c. is on if I can help it. I've got some huge tomatoes so I think I'll have sandwiches.

Mia6 Mia6 No, we're both pretty adamant that there will be no more cats (or dogs) in the house. We're done. I think it's an age thing. The idea of taking in kittens at our age, knowing that they may outlive us, doesn't seem fair to the cats. Nor is it fair to my sister who has said that she'd take our furkids if anything happened to us. We do have money set aside for their care, but still, it's an issue with us. I did mention adopting a couple kittens to Rick, but he said NO! And I do have to agree with him. In a way. Kind of. I suppose.
  • Breakfast for the kids, walked 1.5 miles, and got ready for work. On the way in, Clarence and I stopped for gas.
  • I have a planning commission meeting after work today. Then I must stop in and vote on my way home. It's a special election for us.
  • We're going down to the hospital to pick up Pepe's ashes tonight. She'll join the rest of the clan in the living room.
And I think that's it for today.

We brought Pepe's ashes home last night. Turns out Ms. Pepe was the oldest cat the vets had taken care of in a long, long time. When we went into the hospital, the receptionist came out from behind the counter and hugged both Rick and me (she's the lady who showed me Mollipop and her siblings). She said when she saw the bag with Ms. Pepe's name on it, she knew that it was our little girl and she was so sorry. They also gave us a clay paw print.
  • Breakfast for the kids, emptied the dishwasher, sorted laundry, and got ready for work.
  • Rick is coming into town to get those keys made for me. We're going to the farmers' market over lunch to get zucchini and peppers so I can make zucchini relish on Saturday. (And we'll have a hot sausage sandwich for lunch)
And that's pretty much it for me.
