Our coneflowers, black-eyed Susans, and pyromania are still putting out new blossoms, and the fall-blooming sedums are developing nicely.
You're like a week or 2 ahead of me. My Black-eyed Susans and coneflowers are just starting to open. And my sedums aren't showing any signs of colour yet.

Had to Google pyromania, and wow, they're gorgeous!!!!

On another note, our Japanese beetle infestation seems to have run its course, as it has been several days since I have seen any on the plants, but I have seen a boatload of them in the traps, but even that is tapering off.
That's good. Hopefully they won't be back.

We had a storm roll through this evening. The winds ahead of it were crazy! My tomatoes looked like they were bending; cages and all. Once my bushes grow up some they will help shield the gardens some. It's pretty normal to get strong winds with storms out of the northwest this time of year. The trees and everything looked pretty wild for a bit!

For the moment I am finished with the crescent bed, at least until fall when I can transplant a few peonies that need more sun. It will probably look kind of pitiful until next spring. I really need some late blooming plants for that bed since I pulled out the tall phlox in it. I hated them and they always looked ratty. My next big project is to tackle digging out the oriental bittersweet that I can reach in the horseshoe bed. I have an idea for the bed but not sure if hubby will go for it. Right now it is in the shape of a horseshoe with a bench at the bottom of the shoe. The backdrop is Junipers on the majority of it. The sides have forsythia on it and the top of the shoe is Miss Kim Lilac. What I am thinking of doing is planting the interior of the horseshoe with just a path to the bench and getting an arbor to put over it. It will make mowing easier for my husband. I want a butterfly/bird garden there like it used to be.

That sounds like a great area for a butterfly/bird garden posiepurrs posiepurrs !

I found some old pictures from my Grandparent's backyard. They've got me wanting to do more flowers. I've enjoyed a lower maintenance summer this year though. I have to remind myself that I live in a different growing zone so I'll probably have to choose different plants to some degree. Next year is long off though; I have lots of time to dream and have DH help me keep it realistic.

Just an update on our gardening season. First off, we are being overwhelmed by our tomato crop. By means of pruning, I have sacrificed dozens of the cherry tomatoes, and still we have hundreds, and I am picking about a quart a day from just the one plant.
The Earnest Markham clematis is ready to bloom, and I have counted over 2 dozen buds on it in various stages of development.
Earlier this season, the greenhouse had a promotion where for every $10 you spent, you got a $1 credit, so we went today to redeem them, and got 2 phlox, 'Glamour Girl', and once the rain quits- that is, if it quits before sunset- I'll plant them this evening.
Also, our sedums are starting to get just the faintest tinge of red to them, so fall can't be too far away, something Michele is fervently hoping for.

I just finished my post, when I looked out the window and saw we are getting hit with hail the size of quarters. That might put a crimp in my tomato crop.

Oh no. Hope there wasn't any/much damage from the hail. :crossfingers:

I've got 2 Phlox currently in bloom. Must get pics tomorrow before all their petals fall off. Have you had Phlox before? I like them, but some years they get that ugly powdery mildew.

My baby Black-eyed Susans and coneflowers are both blooming, so must get pics of them too.

Fall is definitely coming too quickly, if the shorter days are any indication. My Sedums are still very green, so they're not ready for fall yet.

It wasn't too bad- maybe a couple of dozen of the still-green cherry tomatoes knocked off, but nothing more than that. Also, the flowers escaped for the most part, but the phlox will have to wait until tomorrow.

Oh I'm glad there wasn't too much damage!

I had a hummingbird moth visiting my petunias the other day! It was loud! I'm glad I knew what it was so I didn't run off screaming because it kept flying around me. I've never seen one before though. I took a few pictures and a video to show my kids but it moved so fast it was hard to get focused on it.

Really? I have seen one, just one time, and that almost 20 years ago. It was the day of my mother-in-law's funeral, and we were sitting around outside with the rest of the family when it appeared, then flew off.

I went to Lowe’s home improvement store today to pick up some potting soil and while there I looked at the mark down plants. That was a mistake! I ended up with 3 Gauras, 1 each of daylily, bee balm, rubeckia, and 2 different types of salvia. That with the soil was only a little over $20.

Wow nice! The only things I saw (from a distance) at our garden centers looked worn out.
They do tend to look a little worse for wear this time of year from neglect at the store. I like the challenge of bringing them back. I also don't mind getting them for less than $3 each. Most I will split and/or propagate when they regain growth so for under $20 I will have numerous plants.

To be honest this time of year I'm a little worn out of gardening myself. School is starting and it takes all my attention for a bit. But the garden is always a nice way to clear my head too.
