We've gotten more than a few calls like that. Sometimes we've done telemarketer improv because it's so often. My brother is awesome at it and is legendary among our Amish neighbors for his telemarketer improv skills when they call him and he's working with the Amish for whatever welding job they need done. Once I managed to finally stop scam calls to my phone by answering it as the cemetery office where I work. There was a very pregnant pause, then "Uh........." and finally a *click*. :yess::flail::crackup:

I finally called the Do Not Call Registry yesterday because we were easily getting scam calls about 10 times a day on our landline. I reregistered our number (which I didn't need to, once you're on, you're on for the life of the number), and reported the last scam call we had.

Today.....the phone had been quiet all day long. WHEW.

You're fortunate. It doesn't work here at all. I've been on the Do Not Call Resistry since moving here, and some days the phone rings off the hook with robocalls, political recorded messages, and charity hucksters. I get them on my iPhone now, too, which is also on the Registry. :sigh:

Unfortunately, the Do Not Call Registry only takes you off of for-profit business call lists.
It does not cover scammers, surveys or robocalls.
For those, just mess with them and have some fun. Although it is hard to mess with a robocall.

I'm feeling so down today. I was agitated in class yesterday by the smallest things, although I was feeling better by the time I left for my externship. Today, I just want to sleep, but I can't. I hate this so much. I hate my brain.
What's going on, sweetie? Too much stress?

My problem with all of these is that it makes my phone an enemy. I keep the landline for personal reasons. I would like to get rid of it but I can't. And my time is at a premium. So I don't want to waste any of it with this dreck. I have a machine that announces the number of the caller; if I'm near it, I will decide what to do. It automatically blocks unidentified callers, and robocalls generally disengage, but not always. It's just a terrible nuisance and I believe it should stop.

At this point, all the spam numbers have made my landline useless. I hardly get important calls on it anymore - I just tell people to call my cellphone. I agree with tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 , I just see my landline as a bad thing now. "The spam line is ringing!" Sometimes, it gets so bad, I have to plug it out. I don't even know why we still have it...

If you don't use it why have it and pay for it? I answer my cell phone only if I know who is calling otherwise it goes to voice mail. Most of the robocalls and telemarketers don't leave a mssg and anyone who is important or does have an important mssg can leave one and I'll call them back. I didn't think I could be without a landline but I am sure glad I don't have to pay that bill anymore and have the instrument sitting around eating up space not even considering the extensions everywhere for my convenience. Now the phone is in my pocket.

I don't know. My parents handle that bill. I'll bring it up tonight and request the removal of the landline. I guess we still have it because it's pretty cheap. We only pay about $30 a year or something to keep it running. So, it's kind of on the back burner or the elephant in the room. If we were paying $30 or more a month, that would be different I guess...

I have broadband and therefore pay $125 a month for landline and internet. I use my internet heavily, so need an unlimited home connection.

Wow, that's a lot. I pay $51.00 a month for my internet (unlimited) and $20 for my cell (unlimited talk and text). Don't have a landline. $125 seems a bit steep.

Yeah, catspaw66 catspaw66 and kashmir64 kashmir64 , prices vary widely in different regions, and from having lived in the Mojave, I know that in rural/low population density areas there are fewer providers and since they have a captive audience, they ream customers. But even here in L.A. Metro, it's $$$ for all these must-have things.

There is only one landline internet provider in the area. Satellite would cost even more and the cable company would have to put in almost a mile of cable just for one customer.
There is only one here too. We used to have both a landline and internet and the bill was around $100 a month. We got rid of the landline and the internet only bill is $51. Switched from Verizon to Tracfone (which is actually Verizon) and dropped the bill to $20 a month for phone.
Ask your provider. There may be an internet only plan which is much much cheaper than a package plan.

I finally got the calls I've been waiting for.
First one was from 'Publishers Clearinghouse' saying that I won 5 million and a new BMW. I said "and of course you want me to pay shipping fees". "No ma'am, we don't". "Then what do you want from me?" "We just need you to be there to confirm delivery." "Well, I'm here." click. Haven't yet received my 5 mil.

Next one is funny. It started off as automated from 'SSI"
pressed one to talk to an 'officer'.
him: "Could you give me your full name and SSN so I can pull your file."

me: "No, you called me, you should have that information"

him: F*** you...click

I'm dying. I have way too much fun with these people.
