I have a couple of collections.
I don't "actively" collect for this one anymore, as I have too much as it is...but I have a seashell/rock/"ocean stuff" collection. It's quite extensive, and although I don't travel, I have friends who will bring back things they collect for me while they are on their vacations.
I also love vases and glass/ceramic "containers". I have a huge collection of glassware and ceramic vases, bowls, etc...all over the house. They are all different but look so nice on display together. I have a bit of an eclectic sense of style.
I'm also the type who hates to throw things away. So I probably have more "collections" that I didn't do on purpose. I'm actually in the middle of trying to purge and go thru all my stuff. I'll be having a yard sale in the near future to get rid of a lot of it.

I have a few collections, but don't collect random stuff.
I have all the Taco Bell dogs.
I have the old Burger King glasses for the Empire Strikes Back
Elvis...I have all the Elvis stamps, a '68 comeback plate and a book about the life of Elvis.
And more dolphin stuff than I know what to do with.

including a Roberto Clemente rookie card.
I used to have the Rafael Palmeiro rookie card (Cubs), but it got destroyed somehow.

I used to collect zebras because they were my sorority's mascot but I stopped several years ago (although people still give me zebra things).

Now I collect dragonflies. I kind of fell into it by accident - one day I realized that a lot of the things I bought because they caught my eye all had dragonflies on them! :reddragonfly:

I collect Hallmark Christmas Ornaments. I started when I was working for them while in college. I don't go crazy; but the collection has built up quite a bit. I have a few serieses that I really like and my goal is to have one ornament to represent each person in our family. I also get ones that represent my kids at whatever stage they are in that year. So when DS was really into Thomas the Train I got one of those. Last year I got a Transformer ornament. I will get certain milestone ones too. Like milestone anniversaries or special trips too. I could almost use a 2nd tree at Christmas. One lady I worked with bought basically every single ornament every single year. She had so many trees in her house that people would come by to take a tour... :paranoid: So I consider my collection quite tame.

I collect some cat things but I try to be selective. I have a Fenton glass cat my Grandparents got me one year when I was a kid. I didn't really appreciate that till I got older. I have a few cat figurines made by an old member here and some other things I've found or been given over the years. It seems like when people know your a cat lover they think you must love all things cats and start gifting them to you. They aren't totally wrong.

I also have a foreign coin collection and a gem/mineral collection. Those are never displayed; I just enjoy them myself. I think it's neat to see the different coins from other countries. I do have some paper money from Indonesia I think it is. Somewhere in that region of the world. :paperbag: My Mother was a nanny for a family for a while and her boss had bought a used book and found the money in it between the pages. When he heard about my collection he told Mom to give it to me.

I used to collect shells and old coins, so I have large collections of both still. I still collect stuffed animals (I used to collect china dolls too, but I'm creeped out at them now from watching too many horror films, lol) and have started collecting notebooks.

I don't really collect anything. I don't have space, for one, and I hate feeling weighed down by how much stuff I own, so I try to live as minimalist as I can. I used to collect porcelain dolls as a kid, but when I went away to college, my parents basically threw all my stuff in the garage and a lot of the dolls broke. I would one day like to collect antique typewriters though.

A rather long time ago I collected cat figurines but after several moves I only kept a few and sold the rest. I also collected turn of the century, 1880-1900, Flow Blue plates/serving pieces but whittled down that collection as well. The only item I collect now is more practical, i.e. tee shirts from different destinations.

View attachment 296415 View attachment 296416 I very selectively collect vintage pottery and blown glass pieces. I have rarely buy anything anymore but every couple years I find something that I want and have space for. Some gets rotated from storage to my display bookcases with the seasons. Others that I love the most stay out all year .
I'm just going to ask susanm9006 susanm9006 , how on earth do you manage to keep a pretty piece like this and cats under one roof? ;)

Just lucky I guess or perhaps it is the tall narrow design but none of my cats have been interested in climbing these display cases. I do have them bolted to the wall so they can’t be tipped and a few special pieces anchored down just in case. I also have a few large glass pieces on the raised hearth of my fireplace which Willow does lay on and walk around on but she is exceptionally careful not to bump anything.

The bolting is an excellent idea, our book cases are bolted because our cats are monkeys and climb a lot of things.
Willow sounds like a good little cat :)

Oh, did your mum do yoga too? That's interesting.

I don't really collect anything. I'm trying to downsize and minimize at the moment, so I guess you could say I collect empty space.

;)

Thank you, Kat0121 Kat0121 for doing the QOTD. I appreciate it more than you know.

Cookbooks. I lost count at 1,000 books. I have them in totes under the bed and in the closet. When the McShed is finished, most of my cookbooks will go out there. I love cookbooks and will take a cookbook to bed and read it like people read novels. I've written in many of my books, too....what I liked or didn't like, how I changed a recipe, if Rick liked it (or not, as the case may be). I don't know what's going to happen to them when I'm gone; our granddaughter said she wants them. About a year or so ago, I donated a couple cookbooks to our library and she was appalled that I did so without asking her first.

I have a bell collection, but have pretty much stopped collecting. Mom and Rick's mom used to give me pretty bells as gifts. When we vacation, Rick always buys me a bell. I have a small collecting of kitty things, basically because people gave them to me.

Comic books. Many years ago, a co-worker from the paper plant wanted to sell his collection. I bought it and sold a couple of the comic books to make up the money I spent. I like to buy older comics only. My favorites are Fantastic Four and Batman. But I also have some older Justice League.

Do Christmas ornaments count? We have enough ornaments to decorate several trees!
