They're all eating well I think. I haven't seen Bailey leave her nest yet but I know she's been eating at least a can of wet food every day with free access to dry food and water.
Demi seems restless, might just be the new environment. She prefers to hide but once you start petting her she turns into a complete cuddle bug. I don't think she's showing many signs of being pregnant, she could be but her nipples are normal and her stomach isn't overly large. She just seems like a normal cat to me. But we'll see.
Arwen is doing much better, she's no longer showing signs of illness and is eating and being quite active. Her belly is very round, I'm eager to meet her kids.
Pippin is doing well, I think she's stopped spotting and is just getting healthier.

I got a weight on Bailey's kittens today. The little tabby is 5.4oz (so around 153 grams) and the white one with black patches is 5.3oz (150g).
Bailey doesn't seem to mind me messing with her babies so far. I want to get a weight every day if I can but I won't push her if she starts seeming uncomfortable about it.

Thinking I'll call the two kittens Cookies and Cream.
Bailey concerns me a little, mostly just because she behaves in a similar manner to a different foster I once had. (That foster ended up abandoning her kittens and I had to bottle feed them.) She doesn't really care that I pick up her kittens or mess with them, and she lets them squirm out of their nest. Now she's not in with them either, which is fine, but she's hiding in a corner for some reason. I hope she settles in soon. I might just be worrying over nothing.
The two are gaining really well!
I got another weight on them and Cookies is now 6.1oz (173g) and Cream is 5.8oz (164g)
They're both gained more than 10 grams a day.

Arwen and Pippin go in tomorrow for another checkup. Demi and Bailey will be going in next week.

Precious! It sounds like Bailey is still adjusting to her new surroundings.

Pippin and Arwen's check up went well. The two are doing really well. The shelter has scheduled Pippin in for her spay surgery, so I'll be saying goodbye to her this weekend. It's sad separating the pair, but I think they'll be alright. They've been pretty independent. Pippin will likely find a home almost straight away, she's a beautiful girl. Maybe it's better she won't have to wait two-four more months to find it.

Demi's getting braver and more adventurous every day, Bailey's an excellent mother so far. Cookies and Cream continue to thrive, I can hardly wait for them to be a bit bigger so I can start carrying them around or playing with them, for now, they just gotta stay in their nest.

Pretty soon the cats will all be off their medicine (Pippin and Arwen finished today, Bailey and Demi will finish Sunday). After that, we can see if Arwen will get along alright with the other two girls. The shelter said they all came from the same place, but sometimes cats can be tricky and not recognize each other after a while.
Still, all four girls love the company of other cats. I think because of where they're from they're used to having many cats around.

Said goodbye to Pippin today.
Cookies and Cream are going to be a week old soon. They’re such cuties.
Most excitingly, Arwen has some milk residue on her nipples.

Demi and Bailey went in for their booster shots today, I brought Cookies and Cream along as well since I didn't want to leave them alone. Still not sure Demi is pregnant, we'll wait a bit longer and see. Bailey is a good mother, but she does not trust us one bit.
Cookies and cream are both girls and are both quite large for their age. Their eyes are opening and they're doing really well.

Now for some trouble. All the cats are well and healthy so I figure we can try introducing them before Arwen has her kittens. I bring Bailey and Demi (and the kittens) down to the room Arwen has since it's quieter and larger, I figure they'll do well together there.
The room Bailey and Demi shared before had some issues, the cats would unplug computers, there was a lot of wires around, and my dad worried he'd accidentally hurt the kittens one day just rolling his chair backwards. (Especially since Bailey had decided to move them to under his desk.)

Arwen isn't thrilled, but so far I think they're alright. They keep a respectable distance from each other and I think they'll be good to stay together. I do worry it could be stressful for Arwen, especially when she's so close to having her kittens (Any day now, I can see them moving so anytime within the next two weeks). But they should have enough room in this area of the house to give each other the privacy they need. Demi and Bailey have no interest in bothering Arwen.

Bailey found out she could get into the ceiling. I pulled her out and put tin foil up to discourage her, but apparently, this wasn't enough. I pulled her and Cookies out of the ceiling not twenty minutes later. I relocated the family to a new box. She seems happy there for now and I've blocked off her way back to the ceiling entirely. Hopefully, she'll choose a less troublesome place to move her kittens next time if she really has to.

I'll be setting up more suitable hiding/nesting places for all of them and monitoring them to make sure they all stay safe.

Still waiting for Arwen to have her kittens. It’s been a week since I saw them moving, so should be any day this week.

Bailey keeps moving her kittens. She doesn’t know where to put them and I think they’re too heavy now because she keeps dropping them.
I try to let her find a comfortable place but she can’t keep doing this. She accidentally dropped Cream from about three feet high. Cream seems alright, she’s landed in the litter box and was certainly shaken, but she’s eating and doesn’t seem in pain. What can I do to help Bailey so this doesn’t happen again?

Does she have a place where she feels safe? Maybe a cardboard box with just one end cut open? Cats like privacy. Their natural instincts tell them to hide their kittens from predators.

I've set up lots of places around the room for her to pick from. Her favourites are the suitcase under the bed and the playpen in the closet, she usually moves between to two but was quite restless this morning trying to find somewhere new. She's settled back into the playpen now.
There are also several little pet tents, tunnels, a few boxes, and two dresser drawers I cleaned out and put sheets in the bottom of them. There are also two cat trees but I wouldn't recommend them to her, Demi enjoys them though.
Bailey still wants back in the ceiling, but it's really not a safe place for her babies.

Pippin was adopted! I knew she'd find a home quickly, it'd be hard for anyone not to fall in love with her.

Still waiting for Arwen to have her kittens. It was around the 3rd I first saw the kittens moving in her stomach. I've heard that after noticing them move like that they'd be born in the next two weeks. It's almost been two weeks now, how much longer do we gotta wait?
Arwen is such a sweet kitty.

The three momma kitties are getting along better these days. Demi and Bailey do so much together and while Arwen isn't best friends with them, she doesn't seem to mind their company either. We joke that we can hardly tell any of them apart.

Look at these two! Eyes open, stumbling about, even starting to play a little! They're nearly three weeks old now. I'm going to have to figure out how to help Bailey litter train these cuties. Pretty soon they'll be getting into so much trouble.

It’s possible that Arwen has another week to go. It’s usually 2-3 weeks from seeing movement. Sometimes with a bigger litter you see movement earlier than usual, but the babies still need time to develop.

Yay for Pippin! :hyper:

The kittens are such cuties! Around 4-5 weeks you can begin putting them in a kitten sized litter pan before and after meals. Take a little front paw and show them how to “dig” even though they may not catch on in the beginning. :)

Cookies and Cream rarely stay put anymore, they're onto exploring now.

This guy came into the shelter today, his name's Beckett. He's four weeks old but the same size as three-week-old Cookies and Cream. He's eating kitten slurry, but we're seeing if Bailey will take him in. So far she's groomed him a bit, but he keeps himself separate from the family.

Still waiting on Arwen to have her kittens, and Demi just hangs out with everyone.

Aww, what a cutie. I hope he’ll gravitate to Bailey. It would be good for him. Have you tried putting him to her belly to nurse?

Arwen is on baby #2!
She just started a few minutes ago, she went and settled herself in with Bailey's kittens. I found her cuddling them when earlier today she wanted nothing to do with them. I took Cookies and Cream out and set them and Bailey aside so Arwen could have some privacy.

Ahhh!
I let Bailey out to eat. Arwen had her fourth kitten I think she might be done but I don't know. We'll see but she's not straining so much anymore.
So all seems well, then I look over and see Arwen's gotten up and she's taken Cream. She's moved cream to a move and Bailey went and put Cookies in the same box with them. Now there's four healthy squealing newborn kittens and Arwen's fussing over the three-week-old kittens?

Now she took Cookies and is back with her own kittens again.
I don't know cats are strange. Bailey doesn't seem to mind sharing kittens but I worry Arwen's newborns won't get enough care. She's doing alright, for now, they're all cleaned up and had been nursing a bit. It's just strange.

Becket's doing good, he's unaffected by this nonsense. He nurses with Bailey when he wants eats slurry, uses the litter box. He's a tiny guy but he thinks he's a big cat already.

The newborns do not need to mix with the older kittens right now. It’s important they nurse their mom and get her colostrum and plenty of milk.

Nursing moms tend to reflexively respond to all kitten cries though, whether their own or others.

So are they all sharing a room or are they separate for now? Not sure how you’ve set things up.

They’re sharing a room right now, I can probably move Bailey and her bunch upstairs for a few days/weeks if that’ll help.
Arwen taking care of just her litter again, five of them now.
